My Dearest General: It Has Always Been You

Chapter 143 - The Most Dramatic Case

Madam Wu regained consciousness an hour later but her mental state was deemed to be unsuitable for questioning because she had been crying ever since. It seemed like Wu Wengen's death had struck her hard and her grief was so consuming that it dyed her hair white in a single night. In the end, the police could only dispatch Ru Meiqi to console her and dig out some information along the way.

Fortunately, Miss Wu and her husband's plane didn't get caught up on delay so they arrived at the police station at one in the morning. The citizens' nighttime activity had reduced considerably and the city plunged into a comfortable darkness. Only the police station was still lit up with neverending hustle and bustle.

Miss Wu—Wu Ruoqing—was a fiery and domineering woman. Because she was a designer, she had gotten used to dressing herself up. Thus, when she arrived at the police station, she was still wearing a branded dress that highlighted her curves, flaming red high heels with flowy hair and impeccable makeup. Maybe because she had been crying in the plane, her eyes were red and the haggardness couldn't be covered by any form of powder.

She was supported by a tall man with gentle temperament. He had neat black hair, an charming oval face with rimless glasses sitting on his nose. Just in one glance, he looked absolutely harmless and the sadness beneath his calm eyes were vivid and real.

Luo Ning had been secretly observing them but he didn't find anything wrong. He scratched his head, confused. He was a new recruit that had just entered the SCI squad for less than five months because he had subdued a madman with a knife who escaped from the psychiatric ward when he was still working in the public security bureau.

At that time, there was no casualty, no injury, no suspense. This was the first time he had ever encountered a murder case. It was like a noob gamer who suddenly had to face the big boss of the entire arena. He could only follow behind Qin Weizhe obediently.

"Little Luo."

"Yes, sir!" He fluttered like a bird toward Qin Weizhe. "Do you need me for something?"

"Go and check up on Xu Binchen. You know his address right?"

He blinked in confusion. "What's wrong with Detective Xu?"

"He's sick and lives alone." Qin Weizhe chuckled. "I don't want another death case to pop up all of a sudden so do me a favor and check up on him, okay?"

"O—Okay!" Luo Ning saluted.

"You know how to take care of sick people right?"

"I know, Detective Qin!" He thumped his chest. "Leave everything to me!"

"Good." Qin Weizhe ruffled his hair. "Go. Make sure that he's alive."

Luo Ning touched the place where Qin Weizhe's huge palm landed earlier and suddenly felt like he had been coaxed like a child. He pouted sullenly but still went to do the task even though he really wanted to stay by Qin Weizhe's side.

"It's really stupid of him to work himself to death like this." Ru Meiqi chided. 'It's fortunate that Shi Nian discovered it in time. Or else we are going to collect another corpse."

Qin Weizhe shook his head helplessly. "He has been working too hard recently. It's no wonder that he collapsed. Binchen ah, he doesn't know how to take care of himself and he doesn't have a girlfriend either. This old friend can only support him behind the scenes…"

He turned his head toward the woman who was sitting in a daze in the interrogation room. "Do you think she can kill people?"

"You will never know." Ru Meiqi shook her head, expressionless. "People's hearts are the hardest to guess."

"Damn right." Qin Weizhe agreed on a spiritual level. Of course, the person he's referring to wasn't the woman inside the interrogation room…

Ru Meiqi glanced toward Wu Ruoqing and recalled the confident, prideful and beaming woman she met a few years ago. "She's more shaken compared to her husband."

"How about him?"

"He shows the appropriate amount of sadness and it doesn't seem fake nor exaggerating either, but if Comrade Luo's investigation is true and he indeed has a relationship with Wu Wengen before, can he still be so calm right now?"

A lover's death. One that he was possibly still entangled with. Could someone really be so clear headed? Or was that just how he was?

"Let's wait for a while." Qin Weizhe wasn't in a hurry and he went to make a cup of instant noodles, slurping it heartily and took a short shower afterward. The clock showed 1.46 am and he waited until Luo Ling returned.

"Detective Qin, I have seen Detective Xu alive and breathing. His fever has broken and currently, Miss Shi and her mother are taking care of him. They told me to leave Xu Binchen to them and it's okay for me to come back. So…here I am."

Qin Weizhe's eyes rounded. Then, he coughed to hide his laughter. "Ah, Binchen…" He clicked his tongue. "Okay, nice work. Thank you, Little Luo."

Little Luo Ning blushed from the compliment. "H—How is the case, Detective Qin?"

"Now that you've returned, let's start."

He stuttered in shock. "D—Detective Qin, you're…waiting for me?"

Qin Weizhe gave a wink. "What do you think?" Coupled with his sunny smile and curving phoenix eyes, it was enough to hoodwink a soul. Poor little Luo was an inexperienced virgin who hadn't seen enough of the world yet thus he couldn't resist such charm. His whole face reddened in an instant.

Seeing his shy manner, Qin Weizhe barked out in laughter and he felt like the police station still had hope. A man so pure like Luo Ning was truly rare amidst the old, deceitful and scheming detectives who wormed their ways around crimes and the darkness inside people's hearts.

Qin Weizhe was also like that; the more he worked, the more tired he became. Gradually, he lost sight of his initial resolution of why he wanted to become a detective.

But after seeing Luo Ning, he felt like he had regained those energetic, fulfilling and warm days. This little rabbit was truly precious. Qin Weizhe's eyes warmed and he hooked his arm around the guy's neck, pulling him as they walked into the hallway. "Let me ask you a question, which one do you think we should interrogate first, Wu Ruoqing or her husband?"

Luo Ning couldn't concentrate due to the fresh soap scent that wafted from Qin Weizhe's body. Everyone else used the same soap but why did it seem so different when it came to Qin Weizhe? "I—Isn't it the same?"

Qin Weizhe tutted. "Think about it. First, we have the dubious relationship between Wu Wengen and his brother in law. Second, he moved out of the family five years ago, but why was he only killed now? Something must have happened during that time. We lack a crucial link that connects the whole thing. What do you think it is?"

Luo Ning knitted his brows and seriously contemplated. "About the time he was killed, nothing worth mentioning happened except for him being pursued by his female colleagues. But what does it have to do with his death?"

A police officer approached and saluted toward Detective Qin then whispered something into his ear.

Luo Ning perked up his ears but didn't manage to hear anything. Qin Weizhe was slender and tall, thus when Luo Ning looked up, he could only see Detective Qin's lips curled up into a devious smirk. "Aha, now everything becomes clear."

"What?" Luo Ning blinked, not understanding.

Qin Weizhe accepted the laptop from the police officer and whistled. Because of their close distance, Luo Ning could see the screen directly and when he did, he choked on his saliva and coughed so hard that tears sprung up his eyes.

"What, Little Luo? You haven't seen a live action movie before?" Qin Weizhe teased.

Luo Ning glared with red eyes akin to a rabbit. W—What live action movie?!

"Let's go. We will start with Miss Wu." He laughed carefreely. "This might be the most dramatic case I have ever seen."
