Modern Weapon Summoning System

Chapter 90 - Working For MVSI

Del was discharged from the hospital eventually with 50,000$ in his hands. It wasn't as good as he expected, but it was more than enough since he could break even since the stinger costs that much. Del got his lesson about warfare in that world and that was enough for him. He needed to be careful and he would ask if he was unsure about something.

"Let's return to Lullin, I think we're ready for next quest," Del said.

"Sure, let's go to the train station," Anna said.

============================

.

The moment Del got off the train, he looked around the train station, nothing has changed both for the worse or for the better. It was just a regular train station in the middle of a small town.

"We should visit Cole, don't you think?" Anna asked.

"Of course, Alina might worry about us to be entirely honest," Del said.

"Yeah, I agree," Del said.

Del and Anna walked to the direction of Cole's house. It wasn't far, but it wasn't close either. Del continued walking until he arrived at the front porch of the house. Cole was enjoying a cup of coffee in the terrace while reading a newspaper like an old man.

He then saw Del from the terrace and he ran as fast as he could to Del. He immediately touched him with his hands. Cole was worried sick for Del since he hadn't returned for straight one week to his house. It was justified.

"Hey, damn, I am worried sick about you, Cassandra called me four days ago and she told me that you're in the hospital," Cole said.

"Ah, sorry for not contacting, but I don't know how to contact you to be honest," Del said.

"Anyway, since you're in the hospital, Anna, I heard that you went to the dermatologist, what did you get from the doctor? Is there any possibility to fix your skin or something or are you doomed for the most part?" Cole asked.

"The latter, the doctor said it was too late to graft the skin and she also said that the amount of wound in my entire body would make grafting entirely impossible," Anna answered.

"I see," Cole nodded. He didn't know what to say about that situation. He wished he could help, but that kind of thing was really outside of his territory as a chemical engineer. Never mind Cole, Cassandra wasn't able to help.

Cole invited Del and Anna to enter his house. Alina was in the kitchen as usual. She was cooking dinner on top of the stove. There wasn't anything interesting so far. Del, as usual, put his backpack near the couch and sat down on the couch. Anna turned on the radio.

"It's another cold Sunday afternoon here and here's another trip down the classy lane with Dan Howartz here, Cooltown radio. Before our usual music program, we have a breaking news here.

The arms dealer in the town of Landville have been taken down by the military forces from the 36th Battalion. Our reports said that the assailants gave quite a resistance before the tanks went storming into the mansion. The commander suggested that the military should tighten their logistic division. It was quite an interesting news, don't you think, dear listener?

This next song is for you, cool people. Cozy Autumn Beginning by Thomas Garrett. Enjoy it folks," The broadcast stopped before another jazz song played on the background.

Anna crossed her hands right below of her chin. She had something inside of her mind. Del also thought about the recent news broadcast. If even a battalion said that they were having a hard time in taking down the arms dealer then they must have been so lucky to survive the encounter with the special force soldiers.

The radio broadcast also mentioned the usage of a tank. It was expected since this world had known the concept of modern warfare. Maybe they used magic shell or something, but he didn't know either. The tank must have been heavily armored as well.

"What are you thinking now, Del?" Cole asked.

"Something about the tanks and the flying soldiers or anything that I hadn't known about this world. We really need to learn about how warfare works in this country or we're pretty much doomed," Del explained.

"Oh, you need some sort of guidelines, huh?" Cole asked.

"Yeah, do you happen to have any?" Del asked.

"I have one, do you want my old military textbook?" Cole asked.

"Sure, why not? What is its content?" Del asked.

"Basicl survival training, combat guide, etc. Anything that you might need to deal with in the future is inside of that book. It helps me differentiate when I should fight and when I shouldn't fight at all," Cole answered.

"Yeah, I can use that thing," Del said.

"Wait, alright, I have a copy of it somewhere from my friend that unfortunately died during the civil war," Cole said as he headed for his room.

Del could hear Cole was opening something inside of his room. He must be throwing stuffs around just for the sake of searching for that military handbook. He eventually came back to the living room and gave the military handbook to Del.

Del retrieved that book and opened it. It literally gave everything that Del might need in the future ranging from enemy types to what kind of thing that would kill him as an infantry alongside with standard operation procedure as an infantry. Almost all of the thing such as keep your hands on the rifle, have knowledge of gun safety, keep the end of the barrel far away from anyone's head, and so on and so on. However, there was one thing that Del didn't do. He didn't apply magical field to himself.

"So, energy field is a necessity, huh?" Del asked.

"Yes, don't tell me that you enter combat without any protective field," Cole commented.

"Well…" Del just smiled.

"Damn, you really want to get killed, huh?" Cole asked.

"Not exactly, but I just think that my armor would be more than enough for the current threat of this world, but it seems that I've been proven wrong. Shit…" Del uttered.

Suddenly, Alina offered Del something that was quite profitable, "You two are quite skillful in combat, right? Why don't you work as an escort for MVSI? I think we have some leftover money to pay you and your sister. I meant, we have our advantages as well."

Anna refuted, "Such as? You're just an university organization as far as I'm concerned, how could you have enough funds to rent contractors?"

"We're not that kind of organization that just helped people, no, the government usually gives us some hefty bonus to help people in the border region. We will help anyone without any consideration to race, nationality, or ethnic groups," Alina explained.

"So?"

Cole suddenly added, "I heard that Del wanted to become a doctor. If you have a certificate from MVSI, you'll have a way easier time to enter the medical school, what do you say, Del?"

Del was enticed by that proposal. This might be the only chance for Del to become a doctor. It didn't matter whether he became a doctor on Earth or on another world. If he became a doctor, then he would fulfill his mother's wish. He really wanted to be a surgeon.

"That's a good proposal, I have to admit, so, Anna, do you agree with her idea?" Del asked.

"Well…" Anna thought for a while then she gave her answer, "I will follow whatever you'll do, brother."

"That's great," Del replied.

"Anyway, since that's your decision, MVSI needs an escort in about three days to the border region. It would be a very long journey so prepare yourself, alright?" Alina said.

"Sure, can you give us a briefing about where we are actually heading?" Del asked.

Alina put the pot aside from the stove and she went to her bedroom. She brought a large map of Ilbistirum. She then put the map on top of the coffee table so Anna and Del could see it. She then pointed her finger at a town called "Halivaara". It was a town on the edge of Ilbistirum.

"Last week attack from the separatist has crippled the medical facility in the region around this town, we will go there by train and provide medical assistance around the region," Alina explained.

Del nodded. He scanned the map using his tablet to decide what kind of terrain was in there. The terrain around Halivaara was flat with the average temperature of fifty Fahrenheit. Del concluded that it was a rather cold town.

"I see, and I will assume that we need thick clothing, right?" Del asked.

"Yeah, but not really, you will move a lot so you will also produce body heat," Alina said.

"We will start moving in three days, right?" Del asked.

"Yup, do you need anything else?" Alina asked.

"No, I don't need anything else, thanks for the briefing," Del said.

Now, he just needed to prepare his equipment for cold weather. Del wouldn't need the stinger missile anymore so he could sell its casings back to Pidma. He just needed a better backpack to carry more equipment and a thicker clothing.

With a better backpack, he would be able to carry more stuff inside of his backpack and carry more weapons as well. With more weapons, he could be more versatile in engaging his enemies. Maybe a visit to the equipment store on downtown would help him and Anna. This time, he might also need to bring the juggernaut suit just for safety measure.
