Chapter 433 – Mr Darwin Stance
"Ask your once intelligent son who has become stupid because of a middle-class lady," Mrs Darwin said not giving her husband the answer he wanted.
"Jeffrey, if you wanted to keep quiet on me after reaching here then you should have brought my daughter-in-law with you. That way I wouldn't have to waste my time staring at your sulky face," Mr Darwin said. His words made his wife frown deepened. Mr Darwin's attention was too focused on his son to notice his wife displeased expression.
"Dad, I can see you like Catherine and I would love it if you can help me talk to mum. Please help me make her understand it's only Catherine I want as my wife and nobody else. Since you are her husband, I am sure she might listen to you," Jeffrey said with a stern expression. His mum shot him a murderous glance after he finished talking.
"Jeffrey, what do you mean by that and how dare you talk about your mum in that manner?" Mr Darwin scolded, and this was because he didn't hear the entire story.
Jeff ignored his father's scolding and turn to face his mother.
"Mum, if you had told me before the day of the introduction that you don't like Catherine because of her social status, I wouldn't have introduced her to you….," Jeff trailed getting all emotional especially when he recalled all he had to endure for a month without even knowing that his mum was responsible for Catherine's attitude towards him.
"I wouldn't have risked ruining my relationship just to introduce you to her. If not introducing her to you and dad would have saved her from getting hurt by your mean words I would have done it without any hesitation," Jeff said as he cleaned the tears that attempts to fall from his eyes.
"If someone had told me that my beloved mum would hurt me and the woman I love so deeply, I wouldn't have believed it. This is to show how much I love and trust you," Jeff said as he stood up to leave.
Mr Darwin watched his son leave the house in anger. He brought his attention to his wife after Jeff left.
"Honey, for Jeff to fight with you for her when he hasn't done so before shows just how much he loves her so why did you have to intervene in their relationship…,"
"Love?" Mrs Darwin asked angrily.
"So what if he loves her, what can her love offer him? Can it save our family in times of difficulties?" Mrs Darwin said not wanting to see their point of view.
"And so what if he loves her now, that doesn't mean he won't fall in love with the senator's daughter when he gets to know how awesome of a person he is…,"
"I don't know what idea you are having right now and I don't care to know. All I want you to know is that I like Catherine very much. She is a lovely girl and whether or not she is rich I support her for my son," Mr Darwin said sternly.
"A lady who can put up working with Jasmine Avans for over five years and being her friend for over eight years shows that she is a lady of great understanding and tolerance. I would never want to miss a daughter-in-law like her because of you so I suggest that you sort out whatever hard feelings you have for her," Mr Darwin took his stance as early as possible so that his wife would not say that she didn't know.
"You father and son are both blind to see the bigger picture…,"
"You can keep seeing the bigger picture but I want to make it clear to you that I would never sacrifice my only son lifetime happiness for my selfish interest," Mr Darwin said standing up from where he sat.
"Also Jeffrey has been working hard these past years to make sure that our family business achieves greater heights and he has managed to make that come true so what do we need an unloved daughter-in-law for?" Mr Darwin said before he went to his study upstairs.
"Why won't they understand me and my point of view? Why won't there understand that I am doing this for the sake of our family?" Mrs Darwin who had to argue with her son and husband because of the issue lamented aloud.
"Why have I suddenly become the villain because I am looking out for my son's future?" Mrs Darwin said her gaze shifted to the direction of her husband study.
Meanwhile, as Mrs Darwin was busy lamenting, Jasmine and Catherine were in the bar drinking.
Actually, it was only Catherine drinking, while all Jasmine does was talk to Catherine.
"Cat, what you are doing to Pretty Boy is not fair. It's very wrong of you to punish him for his mum's mistake…,"
"And what can I do? I don't want to be the reason why he is at odds with his mum that is why I am punishing myself alongside him," Catherine said emotionally as she gulped the entire glass of whiskey.
"His mum doesn't want me as a daughter-in-law and I have no choice but to do like she wants…,"
"Since when did my brave best friend turn to a coward who is afraid to fight for her love and the one she loves?" Jasmine interrupted her sharply.
"I know you don't want to be the reason why he quarrels with his mum that is why I took it upon myself to be the bad person by telling him that his mum is the reason you treat him the way you are doing…,"
"Why did you have to do that Jasmine? You know very well that this is what I am trying to avoid," Catherine said standing up from where she sat.
"I knew you would never want to do that which is why I choose to be the bad person for the sake of yours and Pretty Boy's happiness. Also, I thought Pretty Boy had the right to know what offence he committed to make you distance yourself from him that is why I revealed the truth to him," Jasmine defended herself without uttering an ounce of lies. She stretched forth her hands and hold Catherine's hands. She made Catherine sit back in her previous position.
