Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 964 The Emperor

Chapter 964  The Emperor

Nachum’s mind reeled at how fast the unwanted visitor unleashed such a powerful magic attack without so much as emitting a magic fluctuation around him.

It should be noted that whenever mages planned to unleash a powerful attack, the magic energies around them would react, producing fluctuations and even distortions in space. Although concentrated magic attacks did not usually require a mage to create magic arrays, others would still use them to amplify their power. In cases where a mage would not use one, the intensity of their attack would not be as powerful.

However, the unwanted visitor’s magic attack did not lack that intensity. As a matter of fact, if Nachum’s instincts did not kick in and he unconsciously reinforced the barrier protecting Somuli, there was a good chance that the unwanted visitor’s magic attack would end up leaving a huge hole at the place where it would land. And it was not a simple hole that would be comparable to a huge crater. It would be a literal hole that would pass from one side of the plane to the other.

That was how intense the unwanted visitor’s magic attack was.

“Hmm.”

The unwanted visitor grunted, somewhat surprised that Nachum’s barrier managed to defend his attack.

“This is the first time I am actually witnessing the strength of a Sovereign specializing in barriers… very interesting.”

The unwanted visitor looked at Nachum, seemingly unfazed that his attack had been blocked. His attitude reminded Nachum of a person having complete confidence in himself— as if to say he could unleash a far more devastating magic attack that would not fail a second time at any time.

“I want your magic.”

Nachum’s heart hammered rapidly in his chest as he sensed a foreboding from the unwanted visitor’s words. Just as he thought this, an invisible force seemed to clamp around him.

“I’m taking you back as well.”

As the unwanted visitor spoke, he raised his hand once more and aimed at Somuli. His action was so fluid that as soon as his palm faced Somuli, another concentrated magic attack was released from it.

Nachum’s eyes widened as he realized that his reinforced barrier would not be able to defend the unwanted visitor’s magic attack this time around. He immediately willed his Divine Armament to block the attack. However, his connection with it seemed to have disappeared, to his horror.

No.

Rather than disappearing, it was as if some unknown force had blocked their connection. Thus, his Divine Armament only hovered behind him and did nothing.

“N—!”

Before Nachum could let out a cry of desperation, a black figure appeared directly in the path of the unwanted visitor’s magic attack and, with a swift motion, punched out a silvery translucent magic energy resembling a huge clawed fist. It then collided with the unwanted visitor’s magic attack, which resulted in massive shockwaves that obliterated the unassuming small patches of land that floated around the surroundings.

The shockwave’s intensity forced Nachum and the unwanted visitor to step back a few meters.

Nachum immediately let out a relieved sigh as he recognized the black figure. It was none other than Kyran in black armor.

On the other hand, the unwanted visitor’s demeanor remained unchanged even after being forced back a few meters. However, his eyes narrowed as he looked at the newcomer. Although he could not see the latter’s face, he could make out his eyes, which were slightly visible from behind his full helmet’s visor.

Surprisingly, the unwanted visitor found the newcomer returning his gaze. It was even so intense and hostile that the former found it strange.

While the unwanted visitor might find Kyran’s hostile glare strange, to the latter, it was not. After all, the annoying unwanted visitor ruined a rare moment where he and Cyneah could properly talk about them.

Kyran could have ignored the unwanted visitor’s arrival and let Nachum deal with it. However, he sensed the strange frequency of the unwanted visitor’s first attack and knew the old man could not handle the situation by himself— and he was right.

If Kyran had been a second late coming out, the unwanted visitor’s attack would have collided with Nachum’s weakened barrier, definitely destroying an eighth of Somuli’s land.

Kyran’s estimation was actually more accurate than Nachum’s because he had already experienced the might of a being from another realm. Although his first encounter appeared more overwhelming than the second because he had yet to undergo a body enhancement— or, as Ames and True Void termed it, evolution— both encounters gave him a rough estimate of their strength. Besides, Deus’s clone, which Kyran successfully absorbed, gave him far more accurate data.

Nevertheless, Kyran knew Deus’s data differed significantly from that of the unwanted visitor’s. For this reason, until he could have accurate data, he decided to face him himself.

Kyran decided to face him using Draconic magic rather than Void magic for a simple reason. Ames said the Emperor’s interest was piqued when Kyran appeared like a silver humanoid dragon. He reckoned this unwanted visitor also came because of that.

In order to ensure the latter stayed out of Somuli and unnecessarily put innocent lives at risk, Kyran decided to take the fight outside the plane by coming out. Besides, he was feeling a little restless at the moment and wanted to vent somehow.

“You… that attack just now… And your undetectable presence…”

“Yes,” Kyran did not beat around the bush and replied, “I am the one you’re looking for. The lesser dragon suspected of possessing the Heart of the Cosmos.”

The golden rays that enveloped the unwanted visitor erupted in a blinding glow, making it hard for Nachum to look at him now with his enhanced sight. But that was unimportant. At the moment, he was far more worried about Kyran revealing who he was.

It was one thing for him to appear and help, but to admit something like that was dangerous.

Nachum did not know what the unwanted visitor had meant when he said he was harboring someone who had something that was rightfully his, but after what Kyran said, he had a better understanding of the current situation.

‘Suspected of possessing the Heart of the Cosmos,’ this phrase alone would make anyone, even the Sovereigns of the Lower Realm, stop in their tracks and forget everything else just to get a glimpse of it. As a matter of fact, if news of such an item that was said to be only a legend were heard by them, a different kind of war would definitely erupt.

When that happened, it did not matter if those Sovereigns were in the same faction preparing for the War of the Sovereigns. They would forget their affiliations and want the Heart of the Cosmos.

Of course, Nachum would not join in. He might have heard what it could do but did not care. He was not ambitious in the first place; as long as he could protect his people, it was more than enough for him. While it was true that the Heart of the Cosmos would probably grant him more strength to protect his people, possessing such a legendary item would also bring disaster, so he was not keen on it.

A low laugh escaped the lips of the unwanted visitor as he looked at the man in black armor. He then said, “I remember we are after a silver-colored humanoid dragon. You, on the other hand, are a little… dark for a silver dragon.”

Kyran only cocked his head to one side before he vanished, only to appear right in front of the unwanted visitor.

“Does the color of my armor even matter?” he asked while simultaneously sending out a powerful punch. The unwanted visitor was caught off guard and received the full brunt of his punch. The former was then thrown back several hundreds of meters.

Still, Kyran’s expression from under his helmet distorted slightly. While his punch landed perfectly, he did not feel as if he had hit something.

The unwanted visitor regained his balance almost immediately and guffawed in laughter.

“Good. It is good that you have taken the initiative to deliver yourself to me. I have been mulling over the possibility of destroying you along the plane if I lost my temper. But now that you are here, my task has gotten lighter.”

The unwanted visitor then disappeared before appearing behind Kyran.

For the first time, Kyran was caught off guard at this.

“Do not lump me with the likes of Dues and his automaton.”

The unwanted visitor had said.

Kyran immediately twisted his body while raising his arm, wanting to hit the latter with his elbow. However, he hit nothing but air as the unwanted visitor appeared behind him once more.

“You may have heard about me from Deus. But if not, then let me introduce myself…”

Kyran twisted his body once more, but this time, sending out a leg to kick the unwanted visitor. However, before he could complete his motion, he stopped and turned in another direction as he sensed the unwanted visitor changing location again.

“…It is futile. You will not be able to touch me… After all, what is a mere lesser dragon could do before me? The Emperor?”
