Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 963 Unwanted Visitor (2)

Chapter 963  Unwanted Visitor (2)

After Nachum ascended, all of Somuli’s magic law had been imparted to him by the Lower Realm. Apart from that, his control over Somuli’s limited magic energy had increased by leaps and bounds. He could even utilize its mana sources and convert them to magic energies if he wanted. However, he had no plans to do this because he knew where mana originated.

To briefly explain the mana’s origin, it was the plane’s life force. Beast-likes could utilize it because they possessed beast blood, which could be considered part of Somuli’s cycle of life.

Without knowing the full details of Somuli’s magic law, others would question how beast-likes were the only ones who could utilize the plane’s mana when all complete beings were also inhabitants of Somuli. Why complete beings were not considered part of Somuli’s cycle of life would cause a huge ruckus among them if it was ever made public.

At the moment, Nachum was the only one who knew the answer to that question, and yet he could not share it. That was because he was now the Sovereign and was not allowed to meddle in any internal affairs and issues in Somuli. His main responsibility now lies in protecting the plane from possible invasion by other Sovereigns.

The answer would also throw everything the complete beings knew about themselves into disarray and definitely raise more questions. This was because it would reveal the truth of how life in Somuli came to be. It would even reveal what complete beings were.

Nachum heaved a sigh as he pondered these things inside the space that he could enter as the Sovereign of Somuli.

This space could be considered an extension of Somuli that was only accessible by its Sovereign. It was neither outside nor inside the plane, but it overlooked everything. In there, he could freely observe any place inside and outside Somuli.

Nachum was still learning how to navigate through and utilize the privileges that came with becoming a Sovereign while pondering what he had discovered about its origin. He had wanted to talk with Kyran about it. But he could not find the younger man when he tried to locate him.

Nachum knew Kyran went to the Kingdom of Cretea with Cyneah and Euan, so searching for him would not be a problem. But no matter where he looked, he failed to find the younger man.

Nachum even changed his approach and tried looking for Cyneah instead. And lo and behold, he discovered that she could also not be found.

It made Nachum wonder if this was because the two possessed Ancient magic, thus making it hard for others to find them. Though he did not know how possessing Ancient magic could exempt one from a Sovereign’s search, especially inside his own plane, Nachum was not keen on it. Besides, he knew they were still there even if he could not find them. He could not sense their presence per se, but it was more with believing they would never leave without saying goodbye.

“I remember hearing someone say that standing at the peak could be very lonely. I did not understand it then, but now… I think I do…” Nachum muttered and heaved another sigh.

It was not as if he could not interact with the others, but Kyran warned that his every action might bring about an unexpected event. Whether it was intentional or not did not matter; if his interaction with the others would inadvertently result in something— whatever that something was— then they would be in for a massive headache trying to cope with the repercussions.

In any case, Kyran advised Nachum to get used to his newfound strength before attempting to interact with the others again.

For the record, when Nachum joined the discussion with Ames and the others, he barely voiced his opinion. Only when the topic involved the outsiders and protecting Somuli popped up could he join their discussion.

Nachum found the restriction placed on a Sovereign stifling and a little ironic, to be honest. If one would only look into the meaning of a Sovereign, did it not equal an existence of absolute power, exercising its sovereignty without limitation? Why were they not allowed to meddle in the internal affairs of their own plane, then?

Shaking his head, Nachum gazed down on Somuli. There was little point in mulling over such things. Since he would not find the answer to his questions in a short time, he pushed them at the back of his head.

Just as Nachum was thinking this, a sudden suffocating pressure fell down from above, threatening to crush the barrier he had placed around Somuli for protection. Following the pressure was an overbearing presence that seemed to encompass everything within a thousand kilometers surrounding Somuli.

Nachum’s eyes widened as his heart palpitated from the overwhelming aura he sensed from the owner’s presence. It went without saying that the owner of that aura was the one who unleashed the suffocating pressure that threatened to destroy his barrier.

Fortunately, Nachum’s Divine Armament was a shield, and the barriers he created could not be underestimated. To be honest, the weight of the pressure could easily destroy another Sovereign’s barrier, but against Nachum’s, the best it did was make it creak in protest.

The silhouette of the one who unleashed the pressure slowly appeared as it hovered a few meters above the edge of Somuli’s barrier.

“A Sovereign specializing in barriers…” A deep, regal voice came from the silhouette.

Soon after, the silhouette’s features began to form more clearly, revealing a tall and majestic man in a white and gold robe. He was covered in golden rays, making it a little hard to see him clearly.

But the rays were not that blinding that Sovereigns could not make out his form.

A hard expression soon replaced Nachum’s surprise as he exited the space and revealed himself to the person. The person covered in golden rays looked and felt very powerful.

Nonetheless, it would not prevent Nachum from stepping forward and protecting Somuli when something unexpected happened. Since he accepted his destiny as Somuli’s Sovereign, he was determined to protect the plane and everyone else with everything he had.

It did not matter if the odds were against him; he would still continue to defend Somuli.

“Who might you be, and why have you come to Somuli?” Nachum asked, keeping calm while trying not to show any weaknesses.

“A mere Sovereign dares to question me?” The man in a white and gold robe said in displeasure as he looked down on Nachum. “I will be magnanimous and pretend not to hear your insolence.”

Nachum could not help but frown at the man’s arrogance. However, he kept his thoughts to himself and instead backtracked on the latter’s words.

Only then did Nachum halt as he recalled how the latter called him a ‘mere Sovereign.’ In that instant, he inwardly broke out in a cold sweat.

He heard from Kyran and the others that there was a higher mage level after a Sovereign. And such existences could not be found in the Lower Realm.

Initially, Nachum had trouble accepting this fact. But he could not not accept it since there was a living example right before his eyes at that time— Ames.

Hearing someone refer to a Sovereign, a peak existence in the Lower Realm, as a mere existence, Nachum was reminded of this and felt his heart palpitate in apprehension, thinking that the unwanted visitor was from another realm.

“You harbor a being that possessed something which is rightfully mine. Bring him out, and I will leave your plane in one piece.”

The man in a white and gold robe threatened Nachum.

Nachum remained silent and continued to look at the visitor with a hard-to-read expression. Of course, he was doing this not to show bravado, but to hide the fact that he was sending a message to Somuli. He did not know if Kyran would receive the message, but it was better than not doing anything.

It was too bad that he could no longer use the communication device Kyran gave him. If he could, he would have sent a message to the latter and informed him of the man in the white and gold robe’s arrival.

Unfortunately, after ascending, there were far too many things that Nachum could no longer do and use. One of the latter was the communication device Kyran gave him.

“Acting all sneaky when you are right in front of me,” the man in a white and gold robe snorted. “It appears you do not know your own place.”

Nachum instinctively reacted after hearing the man’s comment. His mind told him to brace himself because something big was about to happen. Since he had always trusted his instincts, the moment he sensed something was not right, he summoned his Divine Armament at once and reinforced Somuli’s barrier.

Nachum barely made it before the man in the white and gold robe unleashed a concentrated magic attack that came out from the palm of his hand and went straight toward his barrier.

BOOOM!!!
