Chapter 75 - HARVARD UNIVERSITY

"I've found a suitable university for your studies."

Before Martin could finish speaking, Lucas suddenly appeared there and suddenly made them divert their attention.

Martin was stunned for a moment, looking at Lucas who seemed to be sitting on the mini bar chair that was right in front of him.

"You talking to me?" Martin walked over to Lucas without changing his gaze in the slightest.

"According to you?" Lucas looked up slightly at Martin who was already standing opposite him behind the mini bar table, then turned to look at Ellena.

"Honey, please get me a drink." He said, which suddenly made Ellena, who was still stunned, blinked slightly in surprise.

'Honey? Did I hear wrong?' Ellena muttered to herself, confused by Lucas' attitude this time.

"Honey, can't you hear me?" Lucas asked to make sure when he found his wife who was just silent. "I'm thirsty, please get me a drink!" He asked again.

"W-okay." Ellena replied a little nervously, then turned down the stove. She took a glass from the shelf and filled the tube object with drinking water.

"Who should go on to university, besides you?" Lucas turned back to Martin who had been staring at him as if demanding an answer.

"I told you, I'm not going to college!" Martin said as he straightened his body.

Lucas smiled faintly, for a moment when Ellena handed him a glass of water. "Thank you, Honey." He said and managed to rip Ellena's heart out at once.

Ellena immediately held her chest, feeling her heartbeat inside. It certainly caught Lucas' attention when he was about to take a sip of water from him.

"What are you doing? Are you sick?" Lucas hung up his glass, then put on a worried expression.

"Hm?" Ellena again managed to be stunned. In a flash she lowered her hand from her chest. "N-no, I'm fine." She replied flatly with her thoughts drifting somewhere.

"Okay. If you're tired, you should just rest." Lucas replied with a smile, then took a sip of the drinking water until there was only half a glass left.

"I don't want to know, tonight you must immediately register for the first wave!" Lucas said as he kept the glass on the bar table.

Martin chuckles in annoyance, feeling disapproved of Lucas' attitude that has gone too far in managing his life. He didn't know yet how it was Lucas who didn't accept rejection and couldn't be resisted. No matter how hard he refused, of course Lucas wouldn't respond.

"Lu-Lucas, if I may ask, which university are you referring to?" Ellena asked courageously, after she had tried to neutralize her feelings.

"Harvard University." Lucas replied curtly.

"Harvard?" shrieked Ellena and Martin in unison, widening their gazes at Lucas.

Lucas just glanced at Ellena and Martin alternately, without responding to their surprise.

"Why Harvard?" Ellena asked as if she didn't want her younger brother to go to school far away.

"Why? Don't you agree?" Lucas looked at Ellena questioningly.

"That's a long way, Lucas." Ellena whined with a pitiful expression.

"I'm doing it for his own good, so that when he graduates he can get a good job." Lucas replied.

"Yeah, I know, but that's a long way off."

"Far or near, I'm still not going to college!" interrupted Martin firmly.

"Agreed or not, I'll still register you tonight!" Lucas didn't want to lose. Since when he has been inconsistent with his words? Who cares about anyone. If the decision is unanimous, then no one can interfere.

Martin's bulge is perfect. He didn't even know how else to deal with Lucas' selfish attitude that didn't respect his decision at all.

"Why not only in Indonesia?" asked Ellena for advice.

"I'm just trying to do what's best for your brother. Do you understand?" Lucas looked at Ellena so closely, indicating that he was serious about what he said while trying to convince.

"I do not want to!" Martin refused with great emphasis while leaning his face forward, then walked away from the place.

"Do you think there will be a company that will accept employees who are only high school graduates? Nothing!"

Martin paused, then looked back.

"I don't care how low a job I will get, as long as I can have money and stay by my mother and sister's side, that's enough for me." Martin replied with a bitter smile.

"How can you progress, if you don't want to improve yourself!" Lucas' sarcasm this time managed to make Martin raise his eyebrows, as if he realized that what his brother-in-law had said was true.

"Your mother and sister would be so much happier to see your success. Isn't that right, Dear?" Lucas turned his head and immediately got a nod of his head from his wife who was again surprised by the call from him.

In a heated situation like this, Lucas would always tease his wife, who always had a hard time neutralizing his feelings. However, for some reason Ellena became more comfortable hearing Lucas' call for her.

Ah, Ellena thought her brain had gone insane. How could she be happy with Lucas's disgusting nickname like that.

"Sis, you support him?" Martin looked at Ellena in annoyance while pouting his lips.

"I think Lucas is right. You should continue your schooling, but...." Ellena paused for a moment. "If you have to go abroad, it looks like you won't be able to pay for your school either." She added, bowing her head.

"You don't have to worry, I will bear all the costs." Lucas got up from his seat, then put one hand in the pocket of the cream colored shorts he was wearing.

"Is that true?" Ellena looked at Lucas seriously.

"Don't think you have a lot of money, so you can control people's lives! I still don't want to!" Martin disagrees. "Just so you know, I'm not someone who is easily tempted by treasure!" He said, deliberately trying to make fun of Lucas. However, Lucas still took it easy.

"Money is not everything, but as we all know that everything costs money. So, think carefully." Lucas suggested.

It's true, one can be successful without getting a tertiary education, but there will always be comparisons between people who have a bachelor's degree and people who only graduated from high school. In fact, educational background becomes one of the priorities in a company.

That's what Lucas is worried about right now. He desperately wanted Martin to find a decent and obviously profitable job. Considering that Martin is the only son, of course he will be the biggest hope in Ellena's family.

"To make money, we need opportunities and people who have a bachelor's degree have more opportunities, compared to those who only graduate from high school." Lucas further explained.

"That's right, Martin. I agree with him. Education is very important, I hope you will follow Lucas' advice," said Ellena, looking at Martin expectantly.

"You and him are the same!" Martin snapped and walked away from the place and no one tried to hold him back, neither Lucas nor Ellena.

It seems that Martin is very angry with Lucas' decision this time. Of course he will be angry. Even Lucas didn't talk to him about the matter first.

"How is your mother today?" Lucas turned to Ellena who was still stunned staring at Martin who had climbed the stairs one by one.

Ellena gasped, then turned to Lucas. "Mother is fine, still the same as before." Ellena answered softly.

"I'll go see him." Lucas moved from that place to his mother-in-law's room, while Ellena resumed cooking activities in the kitchen.

***

Ellena seemed to close the door to her mother's room very slowly, so as not to make a sound that could disturb her mother's sleep.

"Is your mom asleep?" Lucas' question slightly made Ellena jump and reflexively grabbed her chest.

"You startled me!" Ellena grumbled as she approached Lucas who had just come out of his room.

Lucas smiled as he looked at Ellena so closely.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Ellena pursed her lips while looking suspiciously. "Mom just went to sleep." She added to inform.

Ellena just walked away, not caring about Lucas who was still standing there.

"Where are you going?" Lucas asked as Ellena was just about to climb the stairs.

Ellena stopped in her tracks, then looked back. "I'm going to my room, it's getting late." She answered flatly.

"Are you sleepy?" Lucas asked to confirm.

Ellena thought for a moment, before responding to Lucas' question. "Not really." She answered simply.

"Could you please make me some coffee?" Lucas asked to confirm.

Ellena took a deep breath, then let it out a little rough. "Okay, please wait a minute!"

Ellena immediately rushed to the kitchen with lazy steps.

"Please take me to my study!" Lucas shouted which suddenly made Ellena stop for a moment. However, she did not respond to anything and went back to launch her action.

Ellena seemed to stir the coffee she was making. It didn't last long. She immediately brought the cup of coffee to Lucas' room.

It looks like Lucas is busy with a computer in front of him, I don't know what he is doing.

Ellena placed the cup of coffee on Lucas' desk right next to the laptop. "Please." She whispered.

Ellena had intended to leave the room immediately, but Lucas stopped him again.

"Could you help me?" Lucas asked with his eyes still focused on the computer.

Ellena, who was just about to turn the doorknob, immediately gave up and looked back. "What can I do for you?" She asked flatly.

"Help me check the report," Lucas answered, his fingers dangling over the keyboard and his gaze still focused on the computer's screen.

"Checking the report?" Ellena stared at him for a moment, surprised by Lucas' request. "How could I do that.." She added later.
