Chapter 147 - PICKPOCKET VS HANDSOME MAN

During the day, standing in the middle of the city is not the right time. The hot sun seemed to be above the crown of the head, making some people reluctant to do outdoor activities, passing by on the sidewalk.

However, not with a woman wearing an office suit, a knee-length black skirt and a long white shirt. In her hand was a large brown envelope. Don't forget the small sling bag slung over her shoulder, as well as black loafers that complete her very simple appearance.

She walked down the sidewalk at a slow pace, without intending to give up fighting the scorching heat of the sun. Sometimes it stops. The tiny hand seemed to be raised, wiping a little sweat that wet her forehead and temples.

"Where else should I look for work?" She hissed as stared blankly at the highway which was quite busy with passing vehicles.

"Several companies that I have visited, all refused." She added with a heavy breath.

One of her hands seemed to have her hands on her hips, as if she was holding back the fatigue from having walked from one office to another for a long time for a job.

With slow steps and a little unsteady, she moved her feet again without a clear direction and purpose.

After a few days of leaving Lucas's house, she was forced to spend her time looking for work, in order to make a living in the city where she now lives. Yes, she is Elena.

The only valuable treasure she has now is a bachelor's degree. A piece of paper that is expected to help her life and also her mother. That was the only hope because the money she had was starting to dwindle and there was only enough for a few more days.

She didn't know where else to look for work, after several companies turned her down. Even so, she still didn't want to give up.

Her face looked radiant, when she found a piece of paper stuck in front of a cafe.

Without thinking, Ellena immediately went to meet the head of Human Resouces Development (HRD) after reading the advertisement. Now she is sitting in front of the HRD head's desk.

"Sorry, Miss, the vacancy was filled just a few minutes ago."

Again, Ellena wore a disappointed look when Hendra said that the job vacancy had been filled by another applicant. She was late apparently. If only she had come to the place sooner, she probably wouldn't have missed the chance to get a job there.

"Okay, Sir. Then I'll say goodbye, thank you," said Ellena as she rose from her seat and left the room.

Ellena resumed walking north. She doesn't know where else she will go to find work.

Right in front of a restaurant, a man with the appearance of a young executive, handsome, dashing, and charismatic, was walking towards the west. The man's gaze seemed to focus on the device in his hand.

Instantly Ellena stopped and focused on observing the man. Behind the man appeared another man with dreadlocks with a fairly sloppy style and appearance, jeans that looked torn at the knees, a chain that hung from the waist of the pants he was wearing and a jeans jacket that looked shabby, wrapped in a black t-shirt that covered his body. Plus a necklace with a skull hanging around the man's neck. He looked exactly like a thug.

Suspicion began to plague Ellena's mind. Even more so when she realized the dreadlocked man was walking following the handsome man, with slow steps and glances that occasionally circulated in several directions, as if she was looking for safety.

The longer the dreadlocked man walked closer and closer to the handsome man. The hand that had been outstretched, she immediately pulled back when a middle-aged man walked a few meters from the handsome man, heading in the opposite direction.

Seeing this, of course Ellena became increasingly suspicious of the Dreadlocks man's behavior. Slowly, Ellena walked back, following the man's footsteps from behind. By now she was already two meters behind the man.

"Pickpocket!" Ellena shouted when she noticed the dreadlocks man's hand stretched out again, about to reach for the handsome man's wallet in the back pocket of his pants.

The loud scream that came out of Ellena's mouth, of course made the dreadlocks man and the handsome man startled and looked back.

"Pickpocket! He's a pickpocket!" Ellena shouted again, pointing at the dreadlocked man. Meanwhile the man looked dazed, looked left and right, before deciding to run away.

Luckily the handsome man who was about to become a pickpocket victim, immediately understood the meaning of Ellena's screams and realized that the pickpocket would run away. He swiftly grabbed the pickpocket's hand and twisted it backwards. Until the pickpocket screamed in pain and begged for forgiveness so that the handsome man would immediately release him.

"Do you know the consequences if you dare to play with me, Lazy Man?" asked the handsome man angrily, without letting go of the pickpocket's hand.

"Oh dear! Please let me go!—Akh!" The pickpocket's moans are not strong enough to fight against a handsome man who has strong enough strength and is difficult to beat.

"Tell me that you won't do it again!" said the handsome man and strengthened the pull on the pickpocket's hand.

"Arrgh!"

Again the pickpocket groaned in pain. Didn't expect that his action this time was caught red-handed by an annoying foreign woman.

Meanwhile, a few meters away from them, Ellena, who was still faithfully standing in the same place, watched the scene of the two strange men in front of her. Her lips trembled slightly because she felt sorry for the pickpocket who had been whimpering.

"Promise me you won't do it again, you idiot!" cursed the handsome man who still didn't want to free the pickpocket from his hands.

"W-okay, I promise I won't do that again. Now please let me go!" replied the pickpocket trying to persuade a handsome man through the promise he made.

"Fine, I'll let you go, but remember! Once again I see you like this, I won't be in vain to throw you in jail!" said the handsome man, then pushed the pickpocket so hard that the pickpocket staggered and almost fell.

Without another word, the pickpocket immediately ran away to avoid the handsome man who might attack him again.

"You lazy man, usually just pickpocketing and don't want to work!" grumbled the handsome man while clapping his hands together, as if he was removing some of the dust that had stuck to him.

He then walked over to Ellena who was still standing in the same place, looking at her fearfully. It was evident from Ellena's lips which still seemed to tremble.

Now the man was standing right in front of Ellena. He seemed to observe the appearance of the woman in front of him. Seeing the woman's appearance from under the black and white office suit and the brown envelope in her hand, made the handsome man believe that the woman in front of him was looking for work.

Meanwhile, Ellena still looked up to observe every inch of the face of the man who was towering in front of her. The man looks very handsome with a thin beard growing on his cheeks. Ah, she was reminded again of the figure of Lucas who has an oval face shape like the man in front of her right now.

"Ahem!"

Instantly Ellena gasped and broke her daydream, when the man cleared his throat loudly.

"S-sorry." Ellena said nervously as she looked away in any direction, breaking eye contact with the man.

"Sorry?" The man rolled his eyes, looking at Ellena questioningly. "Sorry for what?" He asked curiously.

At that question, Ellena immediately put on a confused expression. What the man said was true. Why should he apologize? Didn't she do anything? Her mind began to wonder.

"Hm ... I mean—"

"I should be the one thanking you for helping me. If it wasn't for you, maybe my wallet would have been stolen by the pickpocket," concluded the man while widening a smile.

Seeing the calming sight clearly visible on the man's face, made Ellena more relaxed and no longer tensed with nervousness and fear.

"Oh, it's okay. It's my duty as a social being. Shouldn't we help each other?" Ellena replied starting to smile.

The man immediately raised his eyebrows when he got the first impression of the smile that Ellena threw at him. Beautiful and attractive, those two words that are currently poisoning his mind. He studied Ellena's face for a moment, before speaking again.

"Yes, you are right, Miss." The man said without fading the smile on his face. "Oh yeah, introduce myself, I'm Richard. If I may ask, what's your name?" The man then reached out his hand, inviting Ellena to get acquainted.

Ellena stared at the man's hand for a moment, then smiled again, before she gave a positive response and took the hand of the man who claimed to be Richard.

"Ellena," replied Ellena shortly.

"Ellena?" The man seemed to squint, as if there was something odd about the name he had just heard. "It's nice name." He added later.

"Ah, you're too much," replied Ellena still looking a little awkward, in contrast to the man who actually looked more relaxed.

"Once again I thank you because you have helped me. This is very valuable to me." Richard said with a happy expression, then took out his wallet from the back pocket of his pants.

"I can't stay long. Hold on to this, if you need anything just give me a call. Maybe you're in need of work or whatever, maybe I can help you." Richard handed her a business card, much to Ellena's surprise, because she couldn't believe that the man would immediately believe her.

"N-no—"

"Take it, think of it as a reward for helping me!" Richard asked which managed to make Ellena couldn't refuse.

"Okay. I happen to be in urgent need of work." Ellena whispered as she grabbed the business card from Richard's hand.

"You just come to my office. I'll definitely help you, Ellena.." The man replied with a smile.
