The Rise of the White Lotus

Chapter 42 - Dumpling On The Move

Heavily breathing, Lexi pursed her lips and slowly closed her eyes and opened them once again. She was thankful that they made it out alive. They didn't encounter any trouble with the route that Churu directed.

However, now that they were on the safe zone, Lexi recalled Churu's persistence earlier.

[moments ago]

"Turn left, chu! Right, chu! Right again after two streets, chu! You can't stop, chu! This whole place was dangerous, chu! Even the police might be involved, chu!" Lexi felt she had a headache hearing Churu's signature 'chu' intensify everytime she spoke.

Brushing Churu's annoying statements, Lexi glanced at Ethan's direction yet, he wasn't saying anything as he kept blinking his eyes.

"Where would I drop you off?" After contemplating for a while, Lexi inquired with caution. She doesn't want to sound rude as Ethan's image on her mind slightly changed.

"It's okay. I'll just make a call when you got home." Ethan meekly smiled and looked at Lexi's still nervous front. Though she doesn't looked that scared just like earlier, Ethan still wanted to make sure she could make it home.

However, Ethan must've took a toll from trying to fend off the men earlier as he could feel he fractured his shoulder and ribs. Alas, Ethan had a bad habit of bottling everything to himself, which is why he chose not to let Lexi know about it.

Churu on the other hand smiled brightly hearing Ethan's statement. She already foresaw this happening -- an injured Ethan Lu and scared Lexi.

Churu took advantage of the fact that Lexi wasn't as clear headed as she usually was. Thanks to her hidden abilities that could only use in case of emergencies, Churu managed to examined Ethan earlier when she arrived inside the van. She instantly got the result of his life percentage and found some broken bones which could be a little serious if left unattended.

Moreover, Churu stretched her ability and asked permission from the system to some relevant information about the target which is Ethan Lu. To her surprise, Ethan hated hospitals.

Hence, with as brilliant as hers and to make up with the dog food scene she missed, Churu had her greatest idea of all. Since Ethan had an internal injury, why not make the stubborn host of the system be his nurse?

Though Churu was uncertain of the time limit or how long will this idea of hers would last, for her, it's worth the gamble -- especially now that Ethan unintentionally riding with Churu's plan.

"Alright," Lexi sighed in defeat before she followed Churu's direction.

[present time]

Lexi and Ethan unconsciously stared with each other before wordlessly leaving the car. After all, they couldn't share with a limited space alone for a long time.

Neither of them talked as Ethan Lu walked her in front of her home. When they reached the Yang family's doorstep Lexi meekly smiled.

"Uhh, right -- phone." Lexi was reminded that Ethan needed to call his assistant thus, she fiddled inside her handbag and found easily found it. However, her phone died out without any justice.

'God, why did I forgot to charge my phone?' She grumbled inwardly. Raising her eyebrows and shifted her awkward gaze back to Ethan's inexpressive front, she uttered with hesitation.

"Hmm, why don't you get inside first? My phone died."

However, her brows creased together having a clearer sight of Ethan's pale face and see him unobviously winced in pain. Taking a step forward, Lexi inquired, "What's wrong?"

"Uh, nothi--" Alas, even before he could finish his sentence, a striking pain struck his ribs which caused him to bow a little.

Instinctively, Lexi hastily stepped few steps forward to catch him. To her surprise, Ethan's back was drenched with sweat and shoulders were slightly trembling.

"God, it is not nothing! We'll send you to the hospital!" Her voice raised as she felt her heart pound from nervousness. She didn't understand why but for some reason, Lexi panicked.

However, hearing the word hospital, Ethan gripped at her much tighter than he should. "No, no, no… no hospital… please," He muttered through his gritted teeth.

By the next second, the front door was opened and revealed a maid of the Yang family. The maid was slightly taken aback seeing the young miss assisting a dashing man.

"Don't just stand there, help me!" Lexi aggressively shouted which snapped the young maid back to reality.

"Y-yes, young miss!"

With that, the maid and Lexi assisted Ethan Lu inside the Yang manor. Yet, Ethan's grip on the hem of her dress as if he was afraid of something, Lexi was slightly felt guilty.

"It's alright… We'll call a doctor instead, alright?" She reassured him rather gentler as if she was coaxing a kid.

Churu on the side smiled brightly. The gamble she took earlier seemed to progress quite well. However, before she could even fly towards Lexi, a great force sucked her and she was thrown outside the Yang Mansion.
