The Kidnapped Bride

Chapter 407 - Jack, A Clever Man!

"I don't kill those who prove to be a helping hand. Moreover...." tuning around her face in his direction with sparkling eyes, Jennifer's lips curved upwards into a smirk, "...Enemy's enemy is friends."

"Which enemy do you mean to talk about, Ms. Taylor?" Jack couldn't help but ask when he saw that the lady was playing mind games.

Coming into his house at this hour, he knew that there had to be her own objectives. She isn't as sweet as she appears to be. Neither is she as soft and timid as what others take her into account.

Meanwhile, Jennifer took a sip of the wine glass that was present in her hands when she lowered her eyelids. Yet her smile never faded, "You have only one enemy right now, who is no one else but you dear stepbrother... isn't that true?"

"So true, Jennifer...." Jack can't help but mutter with the evident amusement present in his eyes, "You are really impressive. I wasn't thinking much about you when we met last at the mansion. Seems like I misjudged you.."

Hearing this, Jennifer's head was lifted upwards when she saw the Jacks' expressions. To have a better view, he went ahead to switch the lights of the nearby bar, where it gave them a clear view of each other's presence. "You were able to come here, without being caught?"

"Because you had kept things quite simple. You were expecting me, weren't you?" Jennifer can't help but say when she raised her drink in her hand to put forward a toast in front of him.

With her hands tightening around her coat, the sharpness of other words increased with the same intensity, "You made it too obvious..."

"But you kept your aura." Jack's surprise wasn't any more hidden. He did leave behind a few hints for her to notice when they were at the mansion. But that never clicked his mind that she would smoothly follow them, without giving out any other hint to him that she did notice him.

How was that possible? Or probably, her skills are more perfected as compared to any of them. It was impossible to invade from his eyes unless...she had done something similar before.

At the same time, Jennifer kept the drink back on the shelf before she walked towards the couch that was placed in the middle of the floor. Coming straight to it, she sat there with her crossed legs. Staring at the man in front of her eyes, Jennifer's mind wandered around thousands of thoughts.

But then, she did remember how he had tried to give her the hints at the mansion; she acted too aloof and ignorant of the same. "Do not worry about my tricks and turns. In the end, the paper on which you had written the address, caught my hands..."

*FLASHBACK*

As the fight broke out between both brothers, Jack was looking at the girl who was still far away from Lucas. When everyone was interested in calming the furious Lucas, his eyes trailed to see his dear fiance.

With the same eye contact that happened between the two, Jack walked to his mother who stood very near Hannah. When everyone, including Hannah, was engaged in the conversation with Mrs. Taylor, she didn't realize that someone did put a paper in her pocket.

However, Jenifer's sharp eyes, which were noting his actions, curved into the crystal moon as she found his work. Not only that, her lips were turned into a straight line as she recalled, 'This man is seriously clever....'

In fact, this isn't the end to pull her attention towards him as Jack himself brought an earring out of his pocket which fell on the ground. Nudging Hannah, he signaled her to say, "Is that your earring?"

"My earring?'

Subconsciously, Hannah's hands slipped to see her ears where she felt were still there. Bending down, Hannah did pick it up when she shook her head, "This isn't mine..."

"Maybe someone else's. You can keep it on the center table." Jack told her, to which Hannah agreed and did.

Afterward, she went towards Jennifer before she nudged her shoulders to ask, "Lucas says you are his fiance but see, Olivia is taking care of him..." Hearing this from Hannah, Jennifer didn't react much, "I don't care, she can do it if she wishes to."

"Yeah, but see, this Jack is too calm as if nothing has happened.." Hannah's words made Jennifer's eyes. The man was seriously clever. There was no denying that he had swiftly done the work he wanted, and without her attention. However,  she hardly gave the attitude if she had seen the same or not.

But her heart did realize that the man wasn't as simple as she thought. 'I will need to check her pockets once we get home....'

After the Taylor family left and reached home, Hannah decided to take a shower. She kept her clothes on the bed when Jennifer took the opportunity to take out the paper from the pocket.

Finding the address written on it, a frown was covered on her forehead, 'What does this man want...was this for me...?' recalling his distinct eye contact with her, she couldn't help but feel that it was all for her..

Subconsciously, Jennifer's eyes trailed to see the address again where her grip tight end around it, "I guess.....you will have all the answers to my questions, Jack Smith..."

*FLASHBACK ENDS*

Back to normal, Jennifer can't feel but be proud of herself. She did the right guesswork and that was finally the perfect spot.

The eye contact was enough for her to realize, yet it seems that Jack isn't much affected by the same. He still kept his hands being tugged into his pocket before he shrugged his shoulders.

However, when Jack heard her explanation, he wasn't as surprised as she had expected him to be. "I was already expecting this out of you, Mrs. Johnson…"
