The Kidnapped Bride

Chapter 186 - The Second Wife!

At the same time, Lucas was entangled in a long conversation with his mother.

Needless to say, how many times he tried, hundred of times to convince her for the ruby yet she never agreed to it.

"I will not give the ruby at any cost, remember that Lucas. It was given to me by your grandmother.." Amara answered with a stoic face.

"But mother.. that is the obligation which we have to fulfill through which we can, you know have Jennifer back. That is the only option left with us.."

"My answer is what I told you, Lucas. Do not try to negotiate with me anymore.'' With this, Amara started keeping the wrapped clothes inside her closet one by one.

Seeing his mother's action, where she was bent on ignoring him, made him frozen. "You are acting too stubborn."

"Oh really?" Amara's eyes showed amusement where her lips lifted upwards, "You are behaving too strangely, to begin with. Where is the Smiths who never fail to get what they want!?"

Lucas can feel a headache coming his way.

His mother wasn't lenient when it comes to her belongings. Instead, she can be as stubborn and aggressive as any tigress.

Showing his puppy eyes, Lucas stood on his legs. Coming from the back, he hugged his mother's neck affectionately, "Mom… please? You're the only sensible person in our entire family…"

Hearing this, Amara turned around to look at her son with her narrowed eyes, "Are you implying that your grandfather isn't smart? Lucas, where are your manners!?"

"Obviously no! Grandfather is intelligent but you are more sensible. Going through so many hardships.. mom, if we get what we want, we can get similar or maybe more worthy rubies like this.. just give it once..'' Lucas's tone constantly softened almost into a pleading one.

The sympathy written all over his face, was already enough to melt Amara's heart yet somehow she regained her consciousness and didn't fall for his tricks too easily.

"My decision will not change. Go and find any other way to make your wants." Was her simple reply where she broke from his embrace and continued her chores.

At last, he let out a tired sigh when he realized that convincing his mother wasn't too easy either.

When his mother was engrossed in keeping the clothes in a systematic manner, Lucas's words from a certain distance showed her.

"You would not like him… to take over me, right mother?" The meaning was clear which shocked Amara from the core.

Her hand stopped in the middle air where she felt her heart also ready to go through a malfunction.

"Wh..who are you.. trying to refer to Lucas?" Without running back, Amara asked in an uncertain voice which stunned her too much but Lucas was sure, she got the hint, "The bastard that father had.. from his affair with that mistress."

"She isn't any mistress…" was her's small reply which brought a fake chuckle on Lucas's lips.

A sarcastic smile curved on his face when he answered, "Not a mistress? Sure, he used to call her his true love who understands him, isn't it true?"

Amara's lips were sealed totally.

Restarting her work, she went back to her clothes, although her face lost all of its colors.

She looked too dim and pale which meant his words hurt her and recalling the past and sour incidents. Noting his mother's displeasure Lucas continued his words.

"You aren't alone to feel that. The sole reason why I wish to take over everything.. is because I don't want to give that man any chance to come into our way. What can be achieved only if I marry Jennifer." Lucas's words were like a reminder to her ears when she finally turned around.

Staring into Lucas's eyes with unstable emotions in her own eyes, indicating that the talk was sentimental for her.

The sadness crept over her entire face which is vital to know she isn't interested to rinse all the bad memories associated with the man and the mistress.

"Lucas… The ruby is too close to me." Amara walked closer to him, and kept her hand on his shoulders, directly looking into his eyes with a clear message, "The only thing that… Differentiate between the two of us.. between me and that lady is the ruby and the states which have. Otherwise, she has everything which I don't."

"Giving up ruby is like losing my sole identity. If I give up my special kind, what will make me separate from the lady who claimed to be the first wife of my husband? Hmm?"

Lucas bit his lower lip since he had no answer on his face.

Understandings that his mother's sentiments were attached to the ruby, he knew she will not easily give it up.

Somewhere Deep down, he has no such wish to snatch his mother's identity too.

"I understand. Will look into some other way out.." was all that he said and took his leave from her room.

Closing the door behind him, he looked at his mobile phone which was constantly ringing.

Coming out of the room, he walked from the passage a little away and arrived at the terrace to answer. "What are the leads?"

"Mr. Smith, we have arrived at the hotel as per your command. It was easy to come here.. just checking in."

"Good. Make sure that you don't come out until a few days and stay inside. Raising suspicion all of the sudden will be very much wrong for our name right now." Lucas said with his eyebrows lifting upwards as the dangerous glint passing by.

The other side agreed and hung up.

Meanwhile, David and Amelia came towards the reception while one wore a big hat and another a big wig to hide their hair.

"Umm... there will be a room booked under the name of Mr. and Mrs. Frick."

The receptionist looked at them and then nodded her head, "Give me a second to see."

Going through all information, she lifted her eyes with a smile as she brought something in her hand, "Yes! Here.. are your keys. Welcome to our state."
