Nyana opened her eyes widely when she heard Zaos’ voice. Once again, he got close without alerting anyone, even though he stood out more than a little bit. Still, she recovered from the surprise and didn’t alert the others.
“Just how…” Nyana asked.
“Forget about that. Did you find anything in the library?” Zaos asked.
“… We invaded the place after we returned, but we didn’t have much time to search because we didn’t receive permission, and the preparations for the war needed to be done,” Nyana said. “However, we found some old books that had been read recently… most likely, by Ameria.”
“I already know what she discovered. I want to hear about the things she didn’t know,” Zaos replied. “Did you find any weakness about him? His powers and abilities? His actions in the past.”
Nyana told him what she had discovered, but most of the things that she had discovered were told by Azoth the other day. However, there was one thing that she found that he didn’t know…

Zaos pondered about that… summoning magic was something that he had never heard of. Not even the demon god could use that, probably. Still, that information made Zaos feel a weird sense of deja vu. Besides, it was weird that the king managed to summon two weapons that were exactly what they needed to defeat the demon god.
“Zaos… Drannor’s daughter indeed has the same powers of the demon god?” Nyana asked.
“… I think you are misunderstanding something,” Zaos said. “Milliendra isn’t the demon god… if that were the case, I would feel the same aura I feel from the demons. She is the one who can summon him from the world of the dead.”
“You shouldn’t have kept that information hidden…” Nyana said. “How many people died because of this… how many people will die?”
“I don’t care… I will make sure that she won’t have to carry this burden,” Zaos said. “There is no way I would let such a child live a life where she wouldn’t be able to live in her home because people fear her.”
“But what if…” Nyana insisted.
“Enough of this…” Zaos said. “You are worried about the deaths this whole situation will cause, I get that. But I am worried about the fate of a single child. I don’t regret what I did and what I am doing. If you want to stop me, feel free to try.”
Zaos never noticed it, but Nyana was a lot less hot-blooded than he was. She was also calm enough to realize that they couldn’t just decide things that might change the whole world by themselves. So, she didn’t know how to answer the fact that Zaos was considering the well-being of a single person above the fate of the world. Thanks to that, the atmosphere grew heavy around them, and Melisse eventually noticed that. While she was smart enough not to act suspiciously, she still told Cohnal that Zaos had approached them.
“Hey, Captain,” Melisse said, visibly surprised. “Did you create a new type of magic that makes you invisible or something?”
“What kind of nonsense are you spouting… of course not,” Zaos replied.
“You shouldn’t be here…” Cohnal said.
“I understand your anger, but…” Zaos said.
“It is not that… your father and Drian are here, and they are waiting for you to attack,” Cohnal said. “They probably have a strategy to take you down.”
Those were some names Zaos hadn’t heard in a while… sometimes, he wondered why he didn’t hear his names in the last few years of war. They were probably working behind the scenes after they failed in stopping Zaos. Even if the king was their friend, he couldn’t let them go unpunished since their failures resulted in Ameria’s death.
“Drannor… to think that he would even have a plan to use against me if I still decided to burn your supplies,” Zaos said and then clenched his teeth. “Well, I suppose I will have to do things the hard way.”
“Captain… are you really planning to go with your plans?” Melisse said. “To be honest, I am also quite hesitant regarding all these things about demons and super-powerful beings. Wouldn’t it be better to keep the princess in a place where she wouldn’t be targeted by the followers of the demon god?”
“I am already dealing with that,” Zaos said.
“How? There are numerous registers that the demons could wipe out entire platoons of soldiers… they must be after her if they have already returned,” Melisse said.
“I already defeated some of them… the real problem is that they can always look for other vessels, and I don’t know how to deal with them without killing the demon and the owner of the body at the same time,” Zaos replied. “Also, they already joined your ranks… I can’t feel the presence of any demons in this army. Fortunately, Aleni was someone he could share his troubles and fight alongside with at the same time, so he considered himself more than a little bit lucky. Zaos had caused many problems for his old friends, so he could understand their hesitation. Fighting against the demon god was only obvious, but the real problem was what they were supposed to do before it. One simple mistake, and the whole might think that they were siding with the demon god while joining Zaos in protecting Milliendra. After all, they couldn’t imagine a single child resisting the influence of a Legendary creature like that.
