The Greatest Sinner

Chapter 151 - King Vexacion

Vexacion despised common people incapable of magic, but for obvious reasons, he could not get rid of such people. The closer the city was to the capital, the harder it was for common people to get into.

Things were even tougher in the capital. Common people were allowed to live there, but by the order of the Vexacion they had no rights. They could only work for the benefit of the magicians and that was it.

<I think that if he could, the king Vexacion would destroy all the common people>. There were no king`s quotes or his statements, only his attitude toward the common people. But, that was enough to understand how much Vexacion despised them.

Evan did not agree with the king's ideology. In his opinion, it was both unfair and abominable.

<By this king's logic, if you're lucky enough to have a talent for magic then you stand above everyone else without efforts at all. And if you don't have a talent for magic, you must forever serve the lucky ones. Annoying logic>. Evan thought.

Evan understood that there was no justice in this world. And although, the status of the common man is in any case is much lower than that of a magician, but still people are not slaves. Moreover, if Evan had not used the demon's power, he would also be a commoner in this world.

The previous owner of his body was not only miserable but untalented. Unlike everyone else in this world, Evan had become a magician by force.

<Okay, the king's ideology doesn't interest me. All that matters is that the "Kingdom of the Fallen Hopes" is really huge and there are a lot of cities and Academies of Magic... There are also different climatic zones, from hot deserts to snowy lands. In some places, there are even crystal caves filled with huge amounts of mana crystals. I wonder what the capital looks like...">. Evan summarized.

The capital was where the wealth flowed from all over the kingdom. The best magicians and the most talented young men. Mossy Vulture and "The Last Moon" were some of the richest and most powerful cities in the entire kingdom, but they couldn't be compared to the capital.

Evan decided to choose the next book. He was going to read another one and go for the assignment.

After a couple of minutes, Evan decided to choose a book describing the external enemies of 'The Kingdom of Fallen Hopes". But, next to that book there was another, more interesting one about the inner enemies.

<I think, first it's better to learn about the enemies I might encounter here than to worry about those in other kingdoms.> Evan thought and picked up the blue book from the shelf.

In Evan's opinion, learning about the various underground organizations was also very useful. Firstly, this way one could avoid any contact with any of these organizations, and secondly, it could be of great benefit.

Various bandits, criminals, black market dealers, and other such people were part of the underground world. Of course, in any kingdom, the authorities try to destroy the underground world, but it just can't be done at all.

The underground world is like the flip side of every nation. Its emergence is inevitable. It's like how light cannot exist without darkness and vice versa.

Evan didn't think it was necessary to be afraid of the underground world, it`s better to interact with it as it's also a part of the kingdom, albeit a dark one.

<Hmm, in the black markets or in underground organizations you can buy things you just can't get in regular stores. Forbidden substances, spells, slaves, beasts, monsters, I think, you can get anything you want there.> Evan thought, reading the book.

Of course, the book didn't tell him how to contact the underground world, much less become part of it. There was no information about black markets and other such places.

Nevertheless, Evan did get a lot of information about the various known underground organizations, their characteristics, activities, power, numbers, and influence.

If the opportunity presented itself, Evan would try to establish contact with some of them for access to the underground world. It wasn't necessary to join the organization, you could just be a good acquaintance or offer unusual merchandise.

He had been the strongest dark magician in his past life, so the underground world for him was even closer.

<I didn't expect there to be so many underground organizations in this kingdom. Many of them, of course, is more like a big gang of bandits, but there are some really serious ones, too.>

Evan thought as he flipped through the next page. The more he read, the more he learned about the powerful organizations. Each one had its own purpose and ideology. But, all of them were after two things-- money and power. That's what everyone was after, though, not just the underground organizations.

After a while, Evan finished reading this book. Now he was experiencing incredible emotions and a great deal of interest was in his eyes. It was all about the last organization he had read about. It was the most powerful and ancient of all those mentioned ones in this book.

<Huh, so that's why the choice of colors for the robes seemed a little strange to me. It's clear now why I haven't seen a single magician walk around in a red mantle". Evan thought.

He was thrilled because the organization he had just read about was called "Demonic Tree".

From the name alone, it was already clear that it was an evil organization that was despised by almost everyone. The "Demonic Tree" was the worst of the worst.

Nevertheless, they were respected and feared in the underworld. They possessed many forbidden spells and items, and among the members of the "Demonic Tree", there were many real psychos and murderers.

But that wasn't the most important thing, it was the demons: the creatures Evan had never heard of in this world before. He had never heard of, and now he understood why. Moreover, the hallmark of the members of the "Demonic Tree" was that they wore red mantles and demon masks.

There was a lot of forbidden magic, but magic associated with demons was one of the taboos of this world. Every magician literally hated the "Demonic Tree", as well as there was an impressive bounty on the head of any member of this organization was entitled.

Yet, there was little concrete information about the "Demonic Tree" in the book. All Evan could learn was about their appearance, the other magicians' attitudes toward them, and a description of several events that made them famous as ruthless madmen.

The 'Demonic Tree" was undoubtedly one of the most dangerous organizations. Even the strong magicians avoided meeting with them, not to mention newbie ones. The latter were horrified only at the mention of the "Demonic Tree".

And yet, there was one, the newbie magician who was sitting at the table and smiling at that moment. Evan's eyes burned with fire and emotion overwhelmed him. He had finally taken a step forward.

There was now one more thing on his list of plans- "To enter the "Demonic Tree."
