Speed Is King

292 Area of effect

Immediately, a perfect teardrop-shaped wind barrier appeared in front of his car and covered the entirety of its body.

“A famous car maker once said aerodynamics are for people who can’t build good engines. What a cocky bastard.” Elliot smiled as he looked at his speedometer in satisfaction. “I gained a full hundred kilometers an hour from it! That’s more than I got by using the red dragon breath as a booster rocket! Brain truly trumps brawn.”

At seven hundred seventy five kilometers per hour, Elliot was going almost as fast as many jetliners used to back in the early 2000s.

The fact that his race car had remained fully intact and his tires weren’t exploding yet simply meant that the aliens had done an excellent job in creating the race car, probably with quite a few of their alien tech and materials.

He glanced around him and at his rearview mirror, and found that he had extended his lead on the second car by several kilometers, and it was growing really fast.

“Good. At this rate, I will not face any problems all the way to the start of the real race.” Elliot said. However, as he said it, he couldn’t help but frown deeply at the sense of de javu which struck him like a thunderbolt.

He had said words exactly to the same effect right before Natoru killed him with that damned RPG. However, nothing else happened for many long minutes.

“With strength, comes peace.” He thought to himself.

[Ding!]

[You have passed the five hundred kilometer mark.]

[You are halfway there. Keep up the good work!]

Right at that moment, loud engine sounds started to roar from his sides.

[A mercenary group had been tasked to run down all race cars starting from the second half.]

[Survive.]

Elliot smiled wryly to himself and shook his head helplessly.

“And with insufficient strength, come aliens who would make you their playthings and unleash mercenary groups to make your life difficult just for the fun of it. I am very, very far from the real definition of strength. But although I cannot touch those damned aliens, I can break their toys.” Elliot narrowed his eyes and immediately cast his senses out to study the situation.

“Only around a thousand cars are moving towards me. The bulk of their forces are still on standby… One, two, three, four, five thousand. That’s quite a lot.” Elliot then turned back to look at the mass of cars still making their way inexorably forward.

“They should catch up in around five minutes. I don’t have enough time to wipe out every single damn mercenary car and still get back to regain my lead at the head of the other cars.” Elliot said to himself.

“Or you can just send us to kill them all for you.” Kai said to Elliot calmly.

“Just send us out and clean up the place for you. Screw the Gaming Commission. You’ve become a high value target. I doubt they will do anything for you. The Gaming Commission’s rules are strict because it is in their best interest that the rules are strict. However, keeping you alive and happy is in the Gaming Commission’s best interest now. I’ll say it again, screw the Gaming Commission!” Red said passionately.

‘You sound like you have a grudge against the Gaming Commission, little bird.” Khellendra chuckled. “But for once, yes, I agree with you. Screw the Gaming Commission. Master, let us clean up this stupid race for you.”

“I agree. There’s no need to play by the rules of your oppressors if you’ve already gained the strength to resist them. Let us go and show them that they can make the rules and the games, but we will choose whether or not we want to play by them.” Wu Kong said quietly.

“Fine. Go crazy then, and come back in twenty five minutes.” Elliot said with a smile. A deep sense of satisfaction with his beasts bloomed in his heart.

“Air units, clean up the ones still standing by. The rest of you, split into two groups and kill the cars approaching us. Leave none alive.” Wu Kong instructed. “Kai, you and I will remain by Master’s side just in case more surprises appear.”

All of Elliot’s beasts obeyed Wu Kong’s instructions and they immediately let themselves out onto the race track.

GRAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

KRAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

ROAAARRRR!!!!!

As usual, Elliot’s beasts took to the battlefield with ferocious roars and charged out towards Elliot’s enemies!

Against such weak enemies, nothing much needed to be said. They came out, they saw and they murdered.

All of them were done within twenty minutes.

However, right when his beasts were at their furthest from Elliot…

[Ding!]

[You have passed the seven hundred fifty kilometer mark.]

[You have entered Firebat Territory.]

[Avoid their fiery attacks and survive.]

What a joke.

The Firebats and their numerous fireballs would have certainly wreaked absolute havoc among the thousands of energy locked racers.

After scrambling for their lives against the thousands of mercenaries, many of the racers would have their cars battered and some would even have sustained serious damage. Those racers would be instantly killed by the Firebats.

Those with intact cars would then go through yet another intense trial, filtering out the most excellent drivers out of those who merely got through the mercenaries by luck.

By the end of the Firebats trial, only the best of the best would have remained.

Indeed, the Firebats were a vicious but highly effective way to sort out the weed from the chaff.

But against Elliot and his unlocked energy…

The Firebats were so much kindling.

In fact, Elliot still didn’t get the chance to take action.

“I’ll do it.” Kai said calmly.

“You do not have any area of effect skills apart from your aura.” Wu Kong said very simply.

“You do not have any wings.” Kai replied with a smile.

“Good point.” Wu Kong conceded.

“And who said I do not have any area of effect skills?” Kai asked.
