Shinobi From Hell

Chapter 228 - Emeral Aurora

Evelyn's eyes widened for reasons unknown. She realized that Klautz had forgotten about her even though they had exchanged blades before.

'Looks like he really prefers larger ones.' her pupils rippled as a conflicted look surfaced on her face.

There was only one reason that she could think of as to why would Klautz forget about her

"It's Evelyn," Evelyn replied looking down at her own mini map.

For reasons unknown she was feeling awkward to reveal her own name after all that had happened between them.

"I see," Klautz nodded. "Evelyn, would you like to see something cool?" Klautz asked.

Klautz firmly believed that beauty was subjected to the eyes of the beholder. But there were some things that no one would rebuke to be ugly.

But Klautz's unusual behavior caught her off guard. Had she known that Klautz was going to use her as bait, she wouldn't have been so worried as she was now.

'What does he want now?' Evelyn's eyes squinted.

She had thought that her life had already come to an end. She was just waiting for the guillotine to slash apart her neck as she closed her eyes but Klautz had other plans.

Not waiting for Evelyn's reply Klautz crawled closer to Verona as he shook her awake. Verona was surprisingly quick to wake up. Weeks spent in hell have made her body vigilant to the surroundings. Just a light shake was enough to jolt her to guard especially when she knew that she was sleeping outside.

"Klautz?"

Klautz smirked.

"We are going back soon. You sure want to keep sleeping and make me carry you?"

"Ah, no!"

Verona shook her head.

The trio walked up to through the edge of the Ice Post towards their destination. But instead of going towards the camp they walked opposite to it instead.

It was a monotonous walk through the world that was only covered in snow. The occasional dunes that came along only made their climb harder than before. Klautz knew all the safe routes so they could pass through it without being noticed by any of the monsters,

"Look up," Klautz whispered to Verona.

But as she did so her eyes widened in surprise. The entire sky seemed to be engulfed in a viridescent fire that burned into her black eyes. It twisted and churned and danced in the sky as if inviting her to dance along.

"This one is called the Eternal Aurora. For some reason these lights never go away and burn every night at such an hour. Rumors say that it's because of the presence of magic but I am not sure."

Klautz wrapped his arm around her as they both shared a moment staring at the eternal sky. Even the mystical moonlight failed in comparison to its beauty and only existed as an auxiliary to its glory.

But unlike the both of them, Evelyn had continued to walk away without a halt. It was soon that she realized that something was wrong and her gaze shifted to them looking towards the sky.

Evelyn naturally followed suit but what he saw next blew her mind. She knew what it waas, but no matter how much she tried to reason with it she couldn't!

'Wow, it looks much more beautiful than in the books.'

Before she knew it tears had begun rolling down her eyes.

Evelyn was a strong one. No matter how many troubles life threw at her she had never cried. But more than strength of the heart. It was because of her fears that she never shed a tear.

When she was still a fledgling small girl her family used to beat her up all the more, the more she cried. She was indeed an eyesore to them. That was why she had stopped crying all together. No matter how hard the challenge was she couldn't shed a tear.

But today? Today matters were different.

'I never thought I would be able to see such a thing.'

The dancing Aurora seemed to be a crystallization of freedom. No matter what happened in the world the Aurora burned in the sky for all eternity. No one could stop it. No one could bar it. There was no force that could trap it either.

'I wanted to be like it.' She thought.

But alas, her desire had never come to fruition. Her eyes had grown dim in self reproach.

But as the green fire glowing Aurora that burned in the sky reflected in her Emerald eyes. It was as if it rekindled her long lost flame.

Her Emerald eyes glistened again. Was it the reflection of the Aurora or her own glistening eyes? It was a hard question to guess… both of them had merged with each other being of the same color.

All she knew was that her eyes were sucked dry but they continued to be moist as tears began to roll up causing her eyes to swell. But she made no weeping sounds.

It was a soundless cry, the tears involuntarily came out of her eyes and froze on her cheeks itself never to leave her beautiful face thanks to the cold temperature.

*Swish*

The cold winds blew, making Verona shiver under Klautz arms.

But Evelyn as if had the warmth of the burning sky; she felt no cold. All she did was gaze upon the bright sky so much so that she wanted the moment to never end. And even if it did she wanted to have a strong memory of it, before she died.

Klautz eyes traveled to the sobbing girl. And he knew instinctively what she felt. How could he not? There was a time when the same fervent emotions ran through his own stone cold heart.

*Sigh*

Klautz turned his attention back to the mesmerizing burning sky as if to remind him of his days spent under its glory.
