My Guardian System: The Trader

Chapter 83 - Monster’s Weakness

On second look, saying that it was a mansion was all wrong because it looked like it was a chapel. Right. The building in front of them was actually a chapel.

"The evacuees must be there!" They heard Mona shout.

Outside of it, humans, who they believed were members of town guards, were currently battling against some monsters. They must be trying to protect those civilians inside.

On the ground, monsters and human bodies were lying. Blood was all over them. The dead humans had their bodies torn and pierced by the monster's sharp claws, while on the other hand, the monsters only had their bodies pierced by arrows and spears.

But, when they looked at the lying corpses, they saw that there were more human corpses than monster corpses. The corpses of monsters on the ground could be counted in one hand.

As of the moment, four monsters were battling against twenty or more town guards. However, even if the town guards were numerous, they could see that the monsters were easily slaying the humans one by one.

At that moment, "WAAH! Help! " One of the town guards screamed when one of the monsters grabbed a person's neck. Pulses could be seen surfacing on his face, a sign that the monster was holding him tightly. He also showed signs of struggle, but his strength was nothing against the monster.

It was obvious in the expressions of his companions that each of them was afraid to approach. Although each carried a spear and a sword, none of them had enough courage to help their companion. Add to that the low morale they feel at this moment.

Still, the leader of the group forced himself to say a command. "A-A-Attack…" but his voice remained at his throat and was barely hearable. Like the other town guards, fear was also obvious in his voice.

From where Jem and the others were standing, they could see some people peeping through the open windows of the chapel. Fear was visible on their faces. That was only natural because when the monsters defeat all the town guards they would definitely be the next target of those monsters.

At the Troll's back could be seen protruding arrows from the attacks of crossbows and bows carried by a few town guards. But, it seemed like they were running out of arrows and lost their attack power.

Understanding the situation, "Jem! You take care of Miles and the others!" Oldman Barn kicked the iron gate.

Miles' eyes widened slightly when she heard what her grandfather had said. However, before she could speak, a loud noise rang out.

KLANG!

Barn was just an ordinary man, but his kick was strong enough. The closed-door made a slight gap, though the gap was just enough for a person to pass through.

"Wait! Grandfather!" Miles shouted. But, her shout came late because the old man had already entered. Before rushing directly, the Oldman Barn first picked up a spear lying on the ground. Then he kicked the ground and bolted to help the town guards.

Oldman Barn knew that if the town guards were defeated, there was no doubt that the next to be attacked by the monsters would be those inside the chapel. So he had to help.

But, before he could get close, Oldman Barn was suddenly stopped at his dash because two monsters suddenly appeared in front of him. His eyes widened slightly. Even though he had seen these monsters up close a few times, he still couldn't help but cringe at their frightening appearance.

But, he was only stunned for a moment. Oldman Barn attacked with the spear he was holding.

Swish~ Fwoosh!

He attacked by stabbing the monsters. With a sudden stab, the tip of the spear luckily hit one of the monsters on the torso. However, it wasn't enough to kill it. When Barn was about to pull back the weapon, he found out he could not pull it. He noticed the monster was gripping on its shaft.

"Bastar—" Barn clenched his teeth as he applied more force on his pull.

Grr~

The monster grinned at him. Oldman Barn couldn't budge it. The gap in their strength was too wide. At that moment, the other monster lifted its arm to attack the old man.

Then suddenly, everyone heard the sound of tearing an empty air. It was coming fast from behind the old man.

Before the monster's claws could reach the old man, a spike as big as an adult man's palm penetrated the monster's eye.

OWRRRGH!

The monster staggered while screaming. Blood spurted from its wound and some dripped on its grotesque face.

The other monster that was confronting Oldman Barn glanced at its comrade with question marks floating in the air. At that moment of losing its focus, Oldman Barn was able to pull back his weapon. When the monster noticed it, it glanced back at the old man. But what greeted him was the sharp tip of the spear. It directly hit the center of its chest and penetrated the crystalline stone inside it. The monster then died after that, turned to a wisp of smoke.

Oldman Barn was quite shocked seeing it. It was the first time that the monster disappeared right after killing it. Moreover, he felt an impact and it seemed he broke something inside the monster's chest.

Usually, the monster wouldn't disappear after killing them. They remained as corpses. But this time, the monster disappeared like a wisp of black smoke. In the position where the monster was standing just now, a broken crystalline stone could be seen.

The other monster was easily killed by Jem. After hitting its eye with an earth element attack using his Earth Manipulation Technique, he followed up by firing another spike, making countless holes on the monster's body.

Oldman Barn didn't know what happened, but it seemed like he discovered a big weakness of these monsters.

"Hit the center of their chests!" He shouted at the town guards who were facing the other monsters.

His shout brought back the town guards from their stupor. They were quite surprised when they saw some people near the gate. It was obvious in their widened eyes. What was more shocking was the fact that they saw a dead body of a monster near those people.

Nonetheless,

"What? There are still some civilians outside?" One of the guards muttered.

Without minding their expression and mutterings, Oldman Barn shouted again, "Hit the center of their chests!"

"Eh what he's talking about?" One of the guards asked.

Then their attention was stolen by a sudden muffled scream.

MURRFGGH!

The monster who was grasping one of the town guards put more force on its grasp, making the person in its hand twitch in agony. They also noticed its huge mouth with razor-sharp teeth slowly approaching the person's neck. There was no way to rescue him in this situation.

"Father!"

A younger-looking person wearing a town guard outfit shouted. Perhaps the man in the monster's hand was his father. It was obvious in his face that he was so worried.

But something happened before those razor-sharp teeth could touch the man's skin.
