My Dearest General: It Has Always Been You

Jin Renguang returned to his car five minutes less than an hour. As soon as he put on the earpiece, a call came through. "Captain!" Tang Wei cried out anxiously. "Thank God you're still alive! I'm so close to calling backups there!"

He chuckled briefly. "Well, here I am. Where's everyone?"

"I don't know." Tang Wei said, befuddled. "It seems like they have separate things to do. They aren't in the office."

"Alright. If there's nothing more, go home early. I still have something I gotta do."

"Eh? Wait, Captain, how about your conversation with—"

He directly hung up on the call and drove out of the parking lot. Peering through the rear view mirror, he could see Jia Renyu walking out and two men got out of the black sedan, welcoming him. Whilst talking, their eyes inadvertently fell on Jin Renguang's car which barely managed to blend into the busy traffic and disappeared among the throng of crowds.

There was a secret code that was tacitly approved by the five people who gathered most of the information. If they wanted to talk about the case, then they would head toward Ru Meiqi's apartment. Just as he expected, when he rang the doorbell, who welcomed him was Wang Chengbing. 

"Captain!" The fatty scanned him up and down. "You're not missing a limb, are you?"

"Why are you all so anxious?" Shaking his head helplessly, Jin Renguang slipped on the slippers and strode inside. All of the members except for him and Qin Weizhe were already there. "Have you been waiting for long? Where's Qin Weizhe?"

"He's got a date." Ru Meiqi answered. "Anyway, you're just in time. Comrade Wang found something."

Jin Renguang had just wanted to complain about Qin Weizhe when the latter half of her sentence brought his attention away. "What is it?" 

Xu Binchen chimed in before Wang Chengbing could talk. "Si Yusheng is still alive right?"

Jin Renguang raised a brow and pulled out his phone. Tapping on it a few times, he showed the screen to Xu Binchen which was connected to the CCTV in his marital house. Si Yusheng was currently sneaking around and almost turning the entire house upside down. He looked anything but lethargic despite the cast around his leg. "Still very much alive and kicking."

Xu Binchen frowned. "Where do you move him to? Is it okay for him to search around like that?"

"It's fine, let him probe as much as he wants. There's nothing there anyway." Jin Renguang shrugged. "Speaking of it, what has Wang Chengbing found?"

"Remember that Lei Liqiu—our mole in Dreamscape Bar—who said that there's a woman named Wan Biwen that behaved like a spy in there? I looked into this person and guess what? She used to be CEO Nan's secretary a few years ago! Check out this report." He turned the laptop screen toward Jin Renguang.

On it was displayed Wan Biwen's CV with her photo. Quite a sweet and beautiful girl, if Jin Renguang had to say. She had this sharp look to her eyes that made her look intelligent. "25 years old, graduated from Business Management in the most prestigious university in the Capital, then interned as a secretary in Henan Corporation two years ago?" Scrolling down, he found himself at the end. "There's nothing more. How about now? Is she still listed as an intern or a permanent employee? How did she end up in Dreamscape Bar?"

"Just as you have seen, there's nothing more." Wang Chengbing said. "Also, she's not listed anywhere. After her intern period ended, it was as if she just disappeared into thin air. Not a single information can be found about her. I guessed that's the time when she got into Dreamscape Bar."

Jin Renguang frowned. "She's from Henan Corp? Then, how about her family? Have you asked around? If I recall correctly, there isn't any Wan Biwen in the list of people we have rescued."

"You're right. She's currently missing. " Wang Chengbing drawled out tiredly. "Don't talk about her family. She's an orphan. It seems like she's one of the people whose education was sponsored by CEO Nan. But how could she suddenly land herself in Dreamscape Bar? It's so strange…" He scratched his head in frustration.

"Ah…I forgot to tell you." Jin Renguang dropped a bomb out of nowhere. "Si Yusheng has given his statement. The owner of Dreamscape Bar is Nan Cheng."

"WHAT?!" Everyone looked up in shock.

Jin Renguang hummed and walked toward the transparent board, adding some important points on it. Nan Cheng, the corpses in the wall, Si Qingzhao's death and he also told them his speculation about Si Zhening and the mafia. "That old man Jia Renyu has given his word. Nan Cheng is indeed responsible for some of the corpses in the wall. We also have to re-investigate Si Qingzhao's death to see whether Nan Cheng really has a hand in it. More importantly…" He drew a circle around Si Zhening's name. "I'm sure he held a lot of important information. We need to get it out of him."

"Huh? Nan Cheng?!" Wang Chengbing exclaimed in shock and rubbed his chest. "Oh my God, this world is such a cruel place to live in. A shady person like me has a pure heart whereas philanthropist Nan Cheng is actually a devil inside."

Xu Binchen revealed a disgusted expression. "Speak human language."

"So, it's Nan Cheng…" Ru Meiqi murmured, deep in thoughts.

After a few moments, the truth slowly seeped into their minds and they proceeded with the analysis. Ru Meiqi started. "So, our previous speculations are all incorrect. There's no outside enemy at all. It's Nan Cheng whom Si Yusheng has to be wary of…"

"If he knew that Nan Cheng is such a person, why would Si Yusheng still work with him for so many years?" Wang Chengbing asked curiously.

"I bet he's been waiting for the exact moment to reveal everything. Keep your friend close and enemy closer." Xu Binchen inserted his thoughts. "If what you said is correct, Captain, then they are all waiting for Nan Cheng to lower his guard and then…kill him off in one move."

Ru Meiqi agreed. "That's right. So, Si Yusheng deliberately got close to Nan Cheng to get his hands on his black material whereas Si Yusheng joined the mafia…to exact his revenge. " Turning to Jin Renguang, she asked. "What else did Jia Renyu say? You couldn't have stayed there for so long and only got this little bit of information, right?"

Jin Renguang gave a slanted smirk. "Who do you think I am? He also gave his own proposal. If I am to turn a blind eye this time, he will give the evidence of Nan Cheng's transaction with them."

"That old fox!" Wang Chengbing hissed angrily. "He intends to throw all of the blame into Nan Cheng's head!"

"Yeah…" Jin Renguang's eyes wandered off around the names intertwining on the board. "And with this, Si Zhening's revenge will be fulfilled."

"After his revenge is done, then what?" Ru Meiqi suddenly asked. "He's dipped his feet into the underworld. Once he gets in, it's not so easy to escape anymore. Moreover, there's something that concerns me. Si Yusheng told us to protect Si Zhening and Nan Xukun from Nan Cheng. Regarding Si Zhening, I can understand his reasoning. But what about Nan Xukun? What has Nan Cheng done to him to warrant such a request from Si Yusheng?"

"And lastly…" Xu Binchen concluded. "Where does the serial killer stand amidst all of this?"
