My Dearest General: It Has Always Been You

Chapter 117 - Don't Let Me See You Again

This time, Shi Nian was really wrongly accused.

Even though she often snuck around the nineteenth floor for a chance to see Jiang Jinyan again, she wouldn't stoop so low to stalk him. Even if she didn't know him inside out, Shi Nian could confidently say that she understood him quite well.

Jiang Jinyan was a lone wolf. He liked to be alone and he hated people disturbing him. Thus, the only thing Shi Nian could do was to look at him from afar, both in their past lives and now. Holding his arm back when he was going to send himself to death and asking for his WeChat ID had been the most courageous thing she had ever done.

Shi Nian was on her way to the cafeteria when she inadvertently saw Jiang Jinyan.

She had stood in place as she looked at his back. Scrutinized the way he walked, the way his fingers curled subconsciously, the way he would shift his balance to the left, she took in all of that greedily as if wanting to commit it into memory.

Then, just when she wanted to take her eyes away, she discovered a black shadow reflected by the lamps behind him.

Both Jiang Jinyan and that shadow didn't know that Shi Nian was watching them.

She looked as the shadow vanished in the next second. A bad premonition coursed through her heart and she followed Jiang Jinyan from a distance. She saw the shadow emerged in a second and faded in the next second as Jiang Jinyan walked through streets, never showing their real appearance.

If it wasn't because Shi Nian was watching Jiang Jinyan intently, then she wouldn't have noticed it.

Her mind returned to the night when he fought against five people and worry flooded her heart. Shi Nian couldn't restrain herself from following. What if that person had malicious intent toward Jiang Jinyan? What if they fought again? Jiang Jinyan had been limping for a while, albeit it was so subtle and hard to notice, but how could Shi Nian not realize it?

His leg…it must have been very uncomfortable.

Then, all the more reason that she couldn't let whoever it was hurt him!

With a belly full of anger, Shi Nian snuck behind, trying to diminish her presence as much as possible. Who knew that when she turned into a corner, she would be ambushed by Jiang Jinyan himself?

She looked at the man's frigid and vicious eyes, frozen in place.

When Jiang Jinyan didn't receive any answer, his face darkened. "I am asking you a question."

Shi Nian blinked and looked around but didn't see that shadow. She let out a sigh of relief and faced Jiang Jinyan with a happy smile.

The man froze subtly, and his frown got deeper. He had had his fair share of fans in his glorious days. All of them were clamoring that they wanted to know more about him to the point where he had to flee and stay in the training centre to avoid them.

They all had a crazed look on their faces, as if wanting to tear his clothes and drink his blood.

Of course, the way Jiang Jinyan handled them was to call the police and let the law do their work.

But this girl…how could she still smile so foolishly after being busted? Was she stupid?

Jiang Jinyan rolled his eyes, vexed. "Scram."

Shi Nian's smile turned stiff. Only then did her brain work and she pulled out his phone to type. [I am not stalking you, really!] She opened her eyes wide to show her genuine sincerity.

Jiang Jinyan scoffed softly. "Whatever." He turned around, went to grab his plastic bag and continued walking without giving her any second glance.

Shi Nian looked at his back for a few seconds and then, trailed behind him.

Jiang Jinyan swished his head around, eyes full of cold anger. "I said don't follow me!"

Shi Nian stopped in her tracks and pointed behind him. Jiang Jinyan followed her line of sight to see the cafeteria across the street. Her meaning was: It's just a coincidence that we are going the same way. I am not following you, okay?

Jiang Jinyan: "…"

He pinched his brows, his chest stifled with irritation. Then, he went back in the opposite direction. Shi Nian panicked and in a moment of blankness, grabbed onto the hem of his shirt.

The soft tug halted Jiang Jinyan in place. The man lowered his eyes to look at the pale, thin fingers grasping his shirt, then up to the fair arms to the anxious golden eyes. "Let. Go." He gnashed his teeth, feeling like he had used up his patience for this week.

First, it was Zhou Zhui's people and now, it was her.

Was he destined not to have a peaceful life?

Shi Nian's heart galloped madly. She didn't know why she was holding onto him either. Just that…when she looked at his frosty look, she felt like she had to say something to break the tension. But what should she say? Shi Nian's mind buzzed with various messy thoughts but at the same time, she wasn't thinking at all.

Flustered, she typed. [I am Shi Nian.] It's me…have you forgotten? Did you really not remember me?

Jiang Jinyan brushed her hands off coldly. "So?"

So…Shi Nian peered up at him, seeing her bewildered look in his eyes. Heat crept up her cheeks and she braced through the embarrassment to ask him. [Are you okay?]

Jiang Jinyan looked like he had just heard the biggest joke in the world. "Why should I not be okay?"

Shi Nian looked at the bruise on the corner of his lips and his slightly swollen cheeks. It looked like his injury was recovering nicely and there's no problem with him walking normally either. However, Shi Nian just had the instinct that there's something wrong with Jiang Jinyan.

There's something really, really wrong with him.

She chewed her lips and took in a deep breath. [Can we…be friends?]

Jiang Jinyan's black pupils stared straight at her as if wanting to dig into her soul to see what was inside her skull. The oppressive, dreary aura he exuded almost made her unable to breathe.

Sweat dotted Shi Nian's forehead, but she persevered under the man's dismal look.

Then, when she was sure that she wouldn't be able to receive any answer, Jiang Jinyan let out a small, very soft and tiny laugh. Shi Nian lifted her eyes, hope filled her eyes only to freeze when she found the thick ridicule and contempt within his eyes.

His lips curled up in a very gentle way, contrasted to the sinister absurdity that swirled within his eyes. He leaned forward and whispered beside her ear. His words made her face drained in color.

"Don't let me see you again or else…" He chuckled.. "You will know the consequences."
