Chapter 35: Sneaking In

Although the situation on the mainland was very chaotic, the public security of the main cities was not that bad. As the saying goes: “Little thieves are hanged, but great ones escape”. Under the strict punishment system, general civilians dared not to do anything that broke the law. After all, no one would like to be fallen as slaves. As for the aristocracy, no matter what they’d done, they were beyond the governed scope. The public security was only rules to constrain civilians and slaves.

The highest power of the cities was firmly controlled by the owners of the territories. In this world, power was the only criterion for everything. None of the owners of the territories was alone, they had countless professionals stand by them. The power they possessed could easily destroy any acropolis, even all the villages and towns united together, the power formed was still far behind that of the owners. Who can really pose threat to them was only their vis-a-vis.

Civilians, slaves and the other oppressed groups were sure to have mood of discontent about this system, thus the structure of this world offered them a way out and a channel to vent their dissatisfaction, that way was cultivation. You wanna to be a privileged class member? Cultivate yourself! When you have outstanding ability, the gate to the privileged class would open to you willingly. They didn’t mind to have one more person to share their good fortune as long as they still could keep their privilege stable and inherited. If you were oppressed in all your life, you can’t blame anyone else but yourself. It was your incompetence that made you in such a low position. Why others could become excellent professionals while you were still nobody? The weak deserved to be bullied! If you wanna resist this system, then you were making a mistake. Anyone who intended to make this mistake must be knocked down!

Here in Beitman, things were different. Because there was no highest ruler here. The owners of the four acropolises never stopped intriguing against each other. As long as there were no large scaled bloody events, they would not care about nor stop any of the small scaled fights, some of which were even provoked by themselves. This was the basic reason why Beitman was a place of chaos.

The security teams in Beitman were the busiest in this world. They had the largest number and they were responsible for the most tiring and dangerous work. Even late at night they were still on patrolling.

In one of the alley of the Eleventh Town, a head peeped in the dark night, watching the security team going away, when the team turned into another street, the figure of the head made a gesture to its followers.

Sunier jumped on the wall and watched around. Her shining blond hair was very conspicuous in the dark night. As for this, she and Han Jin had argued for many times. The latter insist the former tying her hair up, while she refused, for some unknown reason…

“Are we… really gonna do this?” Michelle stammered in the darkness.

“Do you think we still have retreat?” Cessacioun replied in a low voice.

“Rest assured, George has only a few warriors to protect him, and the captain of his guards was only a high grade swordman. It shouldn’t be a problem.” Han Jin said lightly.

“Only a high grade swordman?” Moxinke hummed discontentedly: “What do you mean!”

“You have pretty strong self-esteem.” Han Jin laughed. He realized what he had said just now would really be considered targeting to Moxinke.

“You…” Moxinke nearly clenched his teeth out of anger. But considering the things they were going to do, he had to submit to this humiliation for the time being.

“Could you just shut up?” From above came Sunier’s cold voice. Even though she had very good hearing, she couldn’t hear the distance clearly if disturbed by the baloney.

They all closed their mouths. Han Jin suddenly felt it was not a good sign that they seemed too confident about themselves. Except Michelle, who remained to be worried, all the others were not only excited, but also showed some arrogant. They might thought themselves strong enough to deal with the swordmen effortlessly , since they’ve already killed a fighter.

Sunier walked along the wall quietly and hid herself behind a tree, then she took down her long bow slowly. She loosed her finger after aiming at one direction and an arrow shot out without sound. A signal indicating safety was sent.

“Cessacioun, stay here with Michelle and Steelberg, get ready to coordinate with us.” Han Jin ordered in a low voice.

“Okay, rest assured.” Cessacioun nodded. As a magician, he was not skilled at sneak attacks for that once he released his magic, he would alarm his enemies. The son-in-law of George, Mayor Laphar, was a high grade fighter. If Laphar came with his security team, then things would get worse.

Moxinke jumped up noiselessly with his hand holding the edge of the wall. Though his figure was tall and big, his movements were very agile. He jumped on the wall silently and then offered his hand.

With the help of Moxinke, Han Jin also jumped on the wall and sneaked close to Sunier.

It might be that George had never expected anyone would cogitate anything against him, thus the defending force in his courtyard was very lax. They didn’t see any guard after they’d almost sneaked on for over thirty meters.

When they were passing a rockery, Moxinke suddenly touched something wet and sticky. Startled by this, he looked down closely and saw a man sitting at the slot of the rockery with a black arrow still stabbed into his throat.

Damn it! Moxinke murmured, he wiped his hand on the body several times.

Han Jin came up a few seconds later and glanced at the body. He looked back at the wall in distance and whispered: “It’s a blind angle…”

Moxinke showed a mysterious smile, he lowered his voice and spit out a number: “Eight!”

“Eight what?” Han Jin did not understand.

But Moxinke did not answer it, he just caught up with Sunier quickly.

They didn’t encounter any obstruction when they were passing the whole outer court. The other side of the corner gate was the inner court, it’s where George rested with his wife and concubines. Moxinke looked into the inner court from the gate for a while and whispered: “It’s the place that guy told us. But George has so many concubines, who knows which room he is in? Shall we search each of the rooms?”

Sunier looked back to Han Jin, who replied in a low voice: “Where there are guards, where there is George.”

She put her index finger vertically on her lips and listened closely for a while. Then she pointed to the left side. The three sneaked forward down the trail.

The life of George was very simple. Not to mention the magic eternal lamp, even the ordinary oil lamps were scarce there. The whole inner court had only two oil lamps. Who knew what he was going to do with so much money.

At the end of the path, there was a spacious courtyard, under the lights, they could see clearly four security guards gathering in front of the corner gate and whispering something. Sunier heard what they were talking about and led Han Jin and Moxinke to walk closer to them.

“What shall we do?” She asked in a very low voice. Before them was a spacious lawn. They could never cross it without being noticed.

“You pretend to be a woman and lead them away.” Moxinke said in the ear of Han Jin.

Hearing this, Sunier almost burst out laughter, but she didn’t because when she looked up she found Han Jin was looking at her up and down.
