Song Yu took the elevator to the top floor. She saw that Cheng Dongge was also not in his seat. Someone in the secretary’s office saw Song Yu and immediately approached her, calling out, “Mrs. Qi.

“The president is in a meeting. Why don’t you wait for him in the office?”

Song Yu did as recommended, laying out the takeout on the polished table. After a handful of seconds, Chang Lai entered.

“Is he really in a meeting?” asked Song Yu.

“The president is, indeed in a meeting. However, he has heard that Miss Mu is waiting for him downstairs. He is worried that you’ll be disturbed by Miss Mu during your visit,” explained Chang Lai while removing the takeout from Dynasty from their bag. “I don’t know when the president’s meeting ends, so, I’d recommend you eating now. The president will be upset to learn you have waited for him in hunger.”

Song Yu smiled and obliged, beginning with a packet of rice. Once she had eaten half of the portion, she closed the box, leaving the rest for Qi Chengzhi. Suddenly tired, she lay across the sofa and promptly dozed off.

Seeing this unfold, Chang Lai immediately sent for a blanket to be draped over Song Yu. If Qi Chengzhi saw that Song Yu was sleeping in the cold, he would definitely be angered.

The clock was nearing one-thirty when Qi Chengzhi’s meeting finally came to a close. Chang Lai was waiting for him at the door. He reported the afternoon’s events to him without prompting.

“Now, Mrs. Qi is sleeping on the sofa. She has left some rice for you,” Chang Lai murmured.

Qi Chengzhi nodded, his expression softening.

Gently, he opened the office door, then, after ascertaining that Song Yu was still sound asleep, quietly shut it again. He turned to wave at Cheng Dongge, who was walking out of the meeting room with a computer.

Cheng Dongge went to him. “Young Master Cheng?”

Qi Chengzhi, in a hushed voice, commanded, “Replace the sofa in my office with a new one. I need it to be more spacious. It should be comfortable enough to sleep on.”

Finished, he slid the door open and walked in, giving Cheng Dongge the opportunity to peek inside. Understanding dawning, he scurried to fulfill his duty.

Qi Chengzhi did not wake Song Yu. He moved silently, taking the takeout and leaving. Going to the pantry, he reheated the food.

The delicious aroma that wafted from the warm food would have surely woken Song Yu had he stayed.

Two female employees entered the pantry, chatting amicably among themselves. The moment they say Qi Chengzhi, their conversation died away.

He was sitting in a simple chair, which was too small to carry his weight. Its legs were bending precariously beneath him, and his imposing frame made even the small round table he was eating at seem tiny.

“President!” shouted one of them with wide eyes. The sight of Qi Chengzhi eating in this plain and paltry pantry was absurd.

He made it seem uncomfortably cramped and claustrophobic, even though he was at a lower height than them sitting down. His very presence filled them with great unease.

Even as he ate, his face remained serious and stoic. It was scary.

How could the president’s wife not fear him at all?

Qi Chengzhi glanced at the coffee cups in their hands before continuing to eat his rice elegantly. “Help yourself.”

The two girls exchanged looks.

How could they be at ease when he was here?

Did he not know that they were under a great deal of pressure because he was here?

“Oh! I suddenly need to use the washroom,” declared one of them suddenly, as she shoved her cup into her friend’s hands and made her hasty getaway.

Silently cursing her friend for her fair weathered nature, the other lady placed both cups on the countertop and said, “President, please enjoy your food. I’ll come back later!”

In the blink of an eye, she, too, had vanished.

Qi Chengzhi glanced after them indifferently. Finishing his last few mouthfuls, he tossed the empty takeout box into the bin.

Then, he left the pantry. Before going into his office, he told Cheng Dongge, “Don’t transfer in any calls this afternoon. Cancel my afternoon meetings, including the ones with the departmental managers.”

“Yes, President.”

Mu Sisi went back to Dynasty in a fit of anger. When she entered the room, she saw Mu Huaisheng sitting in the living room, a laptop in his lap. Plonking herself opposite him, she relayed to Mu Huaisheng the bad attitude of Song Yu that afternoon.

“Brother, what kind of bad attitude does the woman that married Big Brother Chengzhi have? How could she talk to me like that while pretending to be someone nice in front of Qi Chengzhi? Acting one way in front of him, but contrary behind him.”

Mu Huaisheng lifted his eyes from the laptop, looking at her coldly. “Who is the one who has got no manners? Who is the one who actually acted one way in front of him, but in a contrary manner behind him? Did you have the guts to repeat what you said to Song Yu to Qi Chengzhi’s face? Did you dare to do that? You act lovely in front of Qi Chengzhi, but, deep down, you know what kind of person you are! You told the wife of another person you liked her husband. Did you really think she’d greet you warmly?

“What did Song Yu say wrongly? You told her plainly that you wanted to steal her husband away. You said it to her face that you liked her husband, and even tried to coerce her into inviting you over for a meal. So you could seduce Qi Chengzhi in front of her! Only those as messed up as you are can stand you! It is a miracle she hasn’t slapped you!”

Mu Huaisheng set his laptop aside roughly. “Mu Sisi, I’m warning you. Don’t do anything disgraceful! I’d already told you this clearly last night, but you still went to harass them. From your point of view, is it an honour to be someone’s mistress? Have you ever considered other people’s feelings? Qi Chengzhi doesn’t have to like you just because you like him. Even if Song Yu wasn’t in the picture, do you think he’d grow to like you instead? Not everything in the world revolves around you! You can’t get everything you want! As your brother, I feel disgusted by your actions, too! How can you expect Qi Chengzhi to like you?”

“Mu Huaisheng! How dare you?! I’m your younger sister– why don’t you support me?!” Mu Sisi stood up, bellowing, “How can you think me such an awful person?!”

“It’s you who have done awful things. How can you stop me from speaking the truth? Even though you are my younger sister, I refuse to allow you to become a homewrecker disturbing other people! How can you not have any realization? Don’t you think that the things that you have done are very annoying? I don’t know what kind of ethics you have, but even a normal person would know that your attitude is shameful!” Mu Huaisheng stood up too, and pointed at her and said, “if you continue to act improperly, I’ll make a call back home. I’ll send you back to the United States! Don’t you ever disgrace yourself and our family again!”

“I won’t go back! Don’t you dare! Mu Huaisheng, I’m your younger sister. It’s alright that you are not on my side supporting me, but how can you make such comments? It’s true that I like Qi Chengzhi. Why can’t I say it out loud? Who says that I can’t like him anymore just because he’s married? In fact, it’d be deceitful to not say it when I like him. I’m not willing to pretend. The thing about me liking him is not shameful at all. To be honest, since I’ve come, I don’t intend to go back. I want to be by the side of Qi Chengzhi. I won’t leave him for the rest of my life!” Mu Sisi screamed. Her eyes were red, tears forming in them.

“Mu Huaisheng, I’m your younger sister. You talk as if I’m an awful person. Even if you don’t support me, you shouldn’t be helping outsiders criticize me! I haven’t done anything wrong. I shouldn’t be suffering such humiliation!” She stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her with a bang.

When Song Yu woke up, she felt extremely comfortable. Her entire body had benefited from her nap, entirely relaxed.

She slowly opened her eyes and saw that all the blinds of floor-to-ceiling windows had been drawn, dimming the room.

Then, she saw Qi Chengzhi seated at the office table. He was reading a document, while occasionally turning his gaze to the computer screen. Simultaneously, he was drawing something on the document with a pen. Song Yu did not know what he was analyzing.

Only the light from the screen lit his features, making them seem more pronounced than usual.

The sight of him working silently reminded her of his photo in a magazine, quiet and reserved.

Even though she had fallen asleep, Qi Chengzhi still took a few glances at her every now and then. He felt soothed by her presence, even if she was asleep.

This time, when his gaze left the computer, he did not look at the file in his hands. He looked straight at her and realized that she had woken up. He smiled. “Up already?”

“Yeah.” Song Yu lifted the thin blanket and sat up. She had been sleeping for too long, so her head felt weighted.

He put down the file in his hand and walked to her. Slim streams of sunlight spilled through the gaps between the blinds and illuminated his frame, throwing his face into gold. He was beautiful.

He sat beside her, both hands on her waist. He pulled her onto his lap, like he might have done with a child, and kissed her deeply.

Song Yu smiled shyly, brushing her nose along his face. Then she put her head on his shoulder, pressing her forehead into his neck. “Have you had your lunch?”

“I have,” said he, slightly lowering his head. He rubbed his lips gently at the corner of her eye as he spoke. His palms were squeezing her waist softly.

“When did you finish your meeting?” Her voice grew quiet.

“About one-thirty.” As he finished his sentence, Song Yu raised his left wrist. She looked at the time on his watch and saw that it was almost four.

“I’ve applied for leave for you. I saw that you were sleeping soundly, so I did not wake you up.”

“Director Zhao must think that he’s taking care of a Buddha with an employee like me. I think he is very depressed about it.” Song Yu smiled.

Before she was pregnant, Director Zhao had never questioned her infrequent leaves. Now that she was pregnant, Qi Chengzhi forbade her to ever be tired, and he helped her apply for leaves regularly. She thought Director Zhao might cry from receiving yet another application from her.

“Because of you, Qilin has given him a substantial amount of business. Even if you do nothing in the company but receive salary, he’d keep paying you. If you leave, it’d be like the god of wealth leaving,” Qi Chengzhi said, unconcerned. He looked down at her half-shut eyes, admiring her long lashes.

Due to her pregnancy, she was not wearing any makeup. Despite her barren face, she looked flushed. She looked younger this way, as if she was an eighteen or nineteen-year-old, off to university.

Her delicate face, which had almost invisible pores, was right in front of him, and he could not help but peck it. He breathed in her fine scent, never having enough of her.

Song Yu’s heart was beating fast. Every breath was his scent, and she trembled in his hold. Both her hands tightened their grip on his shirt.

“Please put me down. It’s working hours now. People will keep coming to you, won’t they?” Song Yu blushed while grabbing his shirt. In truth, she was all too happy to stay in his lap.

It suddenly dawned on her that she had not heard anyone talking while she was sleeping. Had no one come to him to discuss business?

“I’ve told Cheng Dongge to cancel all my afternoon meetings. There won’t be anyone coming in to disturb us.” He did not let her go but dipped his head again.

His breath was ticklish, making her shudder uncontrollably.

He had shuttered the blinds. Now she understood that he had been afraid of waking her up.

“Am I disturbing your work while being here,” she asked lazily as she rested her head on his shoulder.

It was as if Qi Chengzhi had not heard her. He buried his face in the crook of her neck.

“Qi Chengzhi…” she whispered as she pushed him away.

“No,” he replied softly.

“You should continue your work.”

“Do you want to try it here?” he asked suddenly. His deep voice was serious, and the palms on her waist pressed hard.

Song Yu felt that now she had been influenced by him, she could understand what he meant immediately. She blushed and said, “You should continue working.”

Eventually, Song Yu convinced him to continue his work. However, it only happened after she had been hugged and caressed to his satisfaction.

Before he let her go, he said, “Once I’m done, I’ll press you down on the sofa. I won’t be discussing it with you.”

His voice was hoarse and fierce.

Song Yu shuddered. She did not know what to say; he was not going to change his mind. Song Yu felt as if her hands and legs were not hers anymore. She moved clumsily.

Qi Chengzhi walked back to his table and pulled up the blinds. The office was back to its usual brightness.

Afraid that she would be uncomfortable, Qi Chengzhi did not go back to his daily routine. He still did not allow anyone to disturb them.

After his work was done, Qi Chengzhi and Song Yu walked to the lobby, hand-in-hand. As Song Yu did not mention Mu Sisi, he did not ask.

“Big brother, Song Yu,” Qi Chengyue called as she ran towards them.

In front of others, she could bring herself to refer to Song Yu as her sister-in-law, but in front of Song Yu herself, she felt it too awkward since they were close in age. She simply referred to her by name, and Song Yu did not mind it.

Seeing Qi Chengyue smile, Song Yu did, too. She had never imagined her relationship with Qi Chengyue would become so friendly. To think that they would get along so peacefully in the end.

Qi Chengyue walked up to them and followed them to the exit. When she saw a woman standing at the exit, she exclaimed suddenly, her expression growing disdainful.

“Do you know her?” Song Yu asked.

“It’s Cheng Dongge’s ex-fiancee. She dumped Cheng Dongge for a second-generation rich guy,” Qi Chengyue replied. Just then, Cheng Dongge walked out.

When he saw Huang Ziyue, he was shocked. He walked calmly to the exit, not pausing. Huang Ziyue stepped out in front of him.

“Dongge.” Huang Ziyue said softly. She was carrying a small bag.

Cheng Dongge glanced at her coldly. His eyes were barren of emotion. He asked lowly, “Is something wrong?”

Huang Ziyue raised her right hand and tucked her hair behind her ear. She said, “I-I have left my things at your place. I would like to retrieve them. I don’t want them to intrude upon your space.”

Cheng Dongge nodded, then asked, “Where’s your boyfriend?”

“He’s on the way. He’ll wait for me as I clear my things.” Huang Ziyue paused awkwardly between her words.

“Let’s go.” Cheng Dongge had already walked to the front. He did not check if Huang Ziyue was following.

Huang Ziyue felt disappointed. After all, she was the one who had pursued him for a year. He had been the prince charming of B University, but they had never dated. Nevertheless, she had remembered him.

While she had entered other relationships, the memory of him had never left her heart. No matter who she had been with, she had always felt that they were incomparable to him.

Three years ago, they had finally gotten together. It had felt like she was living in a dream.

He was always considerate in their relationship. She had never been kept wanting. When they had eaten seafood, he had always removed the shells for her. When she had wanted drinking water, he had uncapped her bottles. When they had gone out, he had helped carry her things. When she had wanted to board his car, he had held open the door. When they had walked alongside one another on the pavement, he had taken the side facing the road.

He was always considerate, even regarding the small things she did not care about.

In the past, he would not have strode on ahead of her. He would have held her hand and let her walk by the safe side of the pavement, away from the street.

Huang Ziyue looked down at his thin, long fingers, feeling sad. Suddenly, she heard a woman’s voice call, “Cheng Dongge!”

Song Yu was surprised too. She looked at Qi Chengyue. Qi Chengyue looked back to them, and decided, “Big Brother, you may leave first.”

Then, she walked to Cheng Dongge.

Cheng Dongge stopped and waited for Qi Chengyue to reach him. In his eyes, she could read his intention to refer to her formally, so she quickly intervened, asking, “Cheng Dongge, could I get a ride from you? Please send me home.”

Without waiting for his reply, she grabbed his arm and continued walking.

Cheng Dongge glanced at her from the corner of his eye. A smile slanted his lips, and he said, “You don’t have to grab onto me like that. I’ll fetch you.”

Qi Chengyue blushed and immediately released him.

Cheng Dongge caught onto her elbow gently. He guided her to his side, walking on the outer section of the pavement.

Qi Chengyue was surprised, her chest and cheeks warming at his unexpected attentiveness.

Jian Yi had never behaved in such a manner. Even when he had been hiding his true motives, pretending to pursue her, he had never gone out of his way like this.

Huang Ziyue watched everything unfold with a growing sense of discomfort. She was speechless with envy.

She ran up to them and informed, “Ms. Qi, I’m sorry. I’m supposed to go to Dongge’s house to clear out my things.”

“No problem. I’ll follow the two of you back for the cleaning. He can send me after!” Qi Chengyue proclaimed cheerfully as she sashayed up to Cheng Dongge’s black Touareg.

Cheng Dongge walked around to the co-driver’s seat and held the door open.

He figured that Qi Chengyue might not want to sit with Huang Ziyue, understanding where her sudden request had come from. Qi Chengyue was afraid that he would be at a disadvantage in front of Huang Ziyue.
