Chapter 298: "I'm sure the Landlord was behind this. That makes me so angry!" (3)

As much as they were very familiar with each other, Shu Yan had a lawyer drafted up the contract anyway. One couldn’t be too safe. The better they had it laid out now, the longer their relationship would last. She didn’t want things to get ugly over some small amounts in the future.

Business went on as usual and, this day, two men in uniform came and asked Shu Yan to present her business permit the minute they walked inside of the shop.

Shu Yan glanced over at them. She had been waiting for this to happen for a few days now.

“Xiuxiu, fetch the business permit for these officers. Ling-jie, go bring so tea. Pardon me, officers. I just need to make a phone call.” Shu Yan did not make an effort to stand up to welcome them at all but started making her call casually while they watched.

She figured that the landlord would not give up just like that and would cause some troubles. They were natives here and would know someone who know someone. And, she was right about it.

She had countermeasures in place already. If they sent over gang members, she would call the cops. Then she would turn around and hire some herself. An eye for an eye. If they were to send over officials, that was even easier to take care of. She was, after all, an owner of a business with net worth of over 100 million yuan. She attended events often and had a good network.

She had resented events like that at the beginning. Over time, she realized that she couldn’t keep on bothering Hu Ruixue and should build some network of her own. Over time, she had met a lot of others, including the Director of Municipal Administration for Market Regulation whom she was calling right now.

The phone was picked up after a couple of rings. “Hi, Director Chen. It’s me. Shu Yan.”

As soon as they heard Shu Yan said “Director Chen”, the two sitting on the couch drinking tea with their feet crossed exchanged a look with each other and put their legs down.

Anyone able to open up a shop on West City Nan Road would have some sort of family background. It should not be a surprise that they were well connected.

The older man among the two was a little panicked. He came this time to help out a friend. His friend has reassured him that the boss lady of this shop came from some village and had no connections. It certainly did not seem that way right now.

“I thought she has no connection?” The younger one of the two leaned into his ear and whispered.

His colleague had asked him to come with today. They were to look into the business permit and to give them a ticket over whatever they could come up with and have the shop closed down for a few days. They would be treated to dinner at night. They did stuff like that a lot so he accepted without even giving it a thought. Seeing that the boss lady was not intimidated by them at all, he didn’t want this to backfire on him. Something like this was not worth a disciplinary action on him.

“Yeah, I am wondering as well. I have followed all the rules when I acquired my business permit. I am sure everything is in order. I am just curious why am I getting an inspection all of a sudden. Oh, spot check? Is that so? No, nothing like that. The two comrades have been friendly and polite. I just wanted to ask is all. Sure. Okay. I’ll have them talk to you then.” Shu Yan, placing her hand over the receiver, asked, “Which one of you want to take this call?”

The older man stood up. “I’ll take it.”

Taking over the phone, he could tell right away from the voice that that was, indeed, Director Chen of their department. He started bending over slowly. After a little while, sweat started to break out on his forehead and he would wipe them off occasionally. “Sure, sure. We will be right back.”

The man had a very fawning look on him after hanging up the phone. “Boss, this is just route spot check and you happened to be picked. We will take off right away once we see the business permit.”

“Sure.” Shu Yan lifted her chin and had Zhang Huaxiu presented the business permit to them.

With just one glance, the man said, “It’s all good. We have other matters to attend to. Have a good day.”

“You too. I am not going to see you out.” Shu Yan sat there nonchalantly, never moving an inch.

Zhang Huaxiu said angrily after they had left, “The landlord was behind this for sure. That makes me angry.”

“What’s there to be angry about?” Shu Yan rolled her eyes a little and gave Lao Hu a call.
