The Rise of the White Lotus

Chapter 537 - Father And Son

"Talk?" Dylan Lu snorted at the ridiculous invite from his father. He was already in a foul mood, and his father just showed up; his day couldn't be any worse. "That sounds new." He mocked as he shrugged his shoulders.

Dennis Lu would have lashed out on him or discipline his son for his tone. However, could he really blame Dylan Lu? After all, he wasn't a family man and had neglect on how to be a loving father to his son.

Yet, in Dennis Lu's mind, it was still justifiable as what he was doing was for the greater cause; be the Lu Family headmaster. If Dennis Lu had gained that, they would treat not only him but his son as someone that anyone couldn't offend.

Regardless, this wasn't the time for him to explain and argue with his son because he didn't drop by in his son's place because of that. Dennis Lu was there to know whatever brainwashing Lincoln Lu did to him.

"Well," Dylan Lu waved his hand as he gestured to his father to take whatever seat he could occupy. He then perched at the long sofa, reclining his back and relaxed. He watched his father take up the one-seater sofa before Dylan Lu heard him clear his throat.

For a minute, none of them talked and the deafening silence slowly dawned on Dylan Lu's study room. The time that Dennis Lu was taking while he gravitated what to say bore Dylan Lu to the core. It has only been a minute, but it felt forever.

"Rowan Go," Dennis Lu spoke, just before Dylan Lu opened his mouth and his complaints could escape from his mouth. Dylan Lu's brows arched as it piqued his interest. What about his father's assistant?

"Dylan, if you're conspiring with Lin, you better stop now." Dennis Lu was about to ask his son if he has something to do with Rowan Go's recent scheme towards Ethan Lu. Although he still kept his assistant, that was only to monitor him.

After all, Rowan Go's free life was at Ethan Lu's mercy. Once Ethan Lu decided to end it, Rowan Go would be put behind bars in an instant. Dennis Lu understood that his nephew wanted him to do all the labor of disciplining his own people.

"Huh," Upon hearing his father's sudden remark, Dylan Lu chuckled in ridicule. Never once his father meddled with his life, but now, he sounded as if a concerned, loving father. How funny!

Has he forgotten why Dylan Lu's life got harder than it already was? That was because Dennis Lu's stupidity was a major epic fail, causing Dylan Lu to suffer in his stead. Still, he never once asked him if he was alright or apologized for how incompetent of a father he was.

And now, he was trying to dictate his life?

"Dylan, if you think Ethan is the only person you should be wary about, you're wrong. Lin is more ruthless than Ethan. At the very least, Ethan fights fair and square, but Lin…" Dennis Lu's voice trailed off as Dylan Lu suddenly burst out of laughing.

"What now? Have you sided with Ethan now after trying to covet his position all these years? Hahaha!" Dylan Lu's waves of laughter echoed across each corner of the room. Hearing his father complimenting Ethan Lu was the most hypocritical statement he had heard.

In Dennis Lu's perspective, he might sound like he was complimenting his nephew, but he wasn't. He was just comparing the difference of the two men with facts.

Although everyone schemed behind Ethan Lu's back, his methods of dealing with them would abide by the family rules and the government.

On the other hand, Lincoln Lu was the shadiest of them all. Dennis Lu knew it as they lived in almost same timeline. Although there was nothing much about Lincoln Lu, Dennis Lu still knew a thing or two about his cousin. Therefore, he couldn't advise his son to get close to the said man.

"So what then?" wiping the small drop of tears from the corner of his eyes, Dylan Lu spat his sarcasm.

Instead of talking more, Dennis Lu just stared at his son and examined him. It was already an achievement to him that he lasted this long, talking to Dylan Lu while being disrespected with every passing second. By the looks of it, Dennis Lu understood that no matter what he would say, it was all for naught.

Dylan Lu wasn't a child anymore and he wouldn't abide by whatever his father's wishes easily. In Dennis Lu's eyes, his son had grown this much, but he barely knew him.

Was this what Ethan Lu wanted?

'How dare that brat try to teach me how to be a father if he's not a father himself!' Dennis Lu humped internally with the conclusion he had in mind.

"Do whatever you want. Go to me if you find yourself being Lin's scapegoat." Dennis Lu waved his hands off before he assisted himself up. There was no point in talking to his son because the two of them would only have another huge argument.

The side of Dylan Lu's lips curled into a mocking sneer as he watched Dennis Lu's departing figure. His father's last remark, he wasn't surprised that Dennis Lu belittle him and assumed his undecided failure.

"Why should I be a scapegoat if your son can be my shield?" As soon as Dennis Lu's figure left the room, Dylan Lu spat; a vile glint flashed across his pair of eyes as he chuckled at the thought.

How dare everyone think so little of him? Do they think they were the only ones who has a brain to use?

These kinds of thoughts made Dylan Lu chuckled in hatred. He hated every one of them; Ethan, Dennis, Edward, and the rest who showed no regard to him. And that hatred had been his fuel to go deeper, to achieve his goal; to devour the whole Lu Corporation.

"Since you think so little of me, let's see if you can still speak after I became the headmaster." Dylan Lu eerily chuckled, momentarily forgetting that he has a current problem with Lexi.
