The Rise of the White Lotus

Chapter 311 - As Long As My Little Girl Is Happy

After Lexi was dolled up and found the most 'decent' dress she could find, Lexi happily went downstairs as if nothing happened in her long day. As soon as she reached downstairs, her parents smiled at her with satisfaction and felt proud as their daughter was indeed a gorgeous being.

"Dear, where's Nico?" Instead of complimenting Lexi, Lillian Yang asked as she had been waiting for Nico and went outside to look for a man that fit the description she had from her daughter from months ago when they were chatting on the phone. But to no avail, she found no one outside the manor or even out of the gates.

"Uh…" Stunned that she actually forgot about him, Lexi immediately searched her small purse and instantly found her phone without any hassle. As soon as she picked up her phone, Lexi left a short and precise message to Nico Zhuang saying: "Come inside."

"Sorry, I forgot— pregnant." Awkwardly chuckling, Lexi shamelessly used the 'pregnant' excuse as she smiled brightly. Her aura and attitude had a complete 180-degree change as her parent's love and support, plus the thought of what Ethan Lu's reaction would be after knowing she was carrying their child, Lexi was beyond ecstatic.

"Dear. I never heard someone get forgetful during pregnancy." Yet, Lillian Yang humored with a chuckle that made the family of three laugh. Soon, the doorbell rang and Lillian Yang was the one who welcomed Nico Zhuang.

Just like the usual, Lillian Yang perfectly accommodated Nico Zhuang and served him tea before the dinner was served. At that time, as Lexi watched her mother enthusiastically welcomed Nico Zhuang, Frederick Yang approached her.

"My dear girl, can we talk for a while?" Placing a light pat on his daughter's head, Frederick Yang subtly smiled before Lexi smiled back and nodded. She then followed her father, not to his study but to the dining area.

They perched at their usual sitting arrangements, Frederick Yang on the head seat and Lexi on the left side of the rectangular table. Along the way, Frederick Yang exposed his reason why he chose to talk to her in the dining room as he was afraid that Lexi might get tired of going up and down the stairs too much.

"Lexi," Raising his head and locking his gaze to his daughter, Frederick Yang rested his fist on the surface of the table— beside the plate in front of him. "I plan to let Ethan manage our company under the Lu Corporation. Your Mother and I already discussed about it and decided to be a separate company but operating under the Lu's when the time comes." Without going around in circles, Frederick Yang delved into this important topic in an instant.

"Oh…" Not surprised by this, Lexi, in the back of her head already thought this would come one day. After all, she was unwilling to be the next chairwoman of their family business because of the new business she was establishing.

"And, I already talked to Ethan about it— he agreed with the conditions I gave him." Seeing Lexi's understanding countenance, Frederick Yang explained further details. Although he already knew that Lexi wouldn't interfere with it not that she would disapprove about the idea, he still wanted to let her know because she was still and would always be a part of this family business as she still had her shares.

"Dad, I trust your decision also…" Meekly smiling, Lexi slid her hand to Frederick Yang's fist. "I'm sorry for being selfish over and over again."

"As long as my little girl is happy— you can be as selfish as you want." Frederick Yang moved his thumb and gently rubbed the back of her fingers that were on top of his fist.

"That's why I became so spoiled." Humoring her father that had been too lenient to the extent of Lexi's abusive 'princess syndrome' in the past, she could not help but chuckle at it. Upon hearing her remarks, Frederick Yang could not help but laugh as well while shaking his head sideways as if he had the same thought of his daughter.

Soon, Nico Zhuang and Lillian Yang joined them in the table and as if on cue, Lillian Yang smoothly served everyone dinner and took the initiative to chitchat with everyone. Lexi kept glancing at Nico Zhuang and she could not help but giggle. After all, Nico Zhuang seemed as if he was culture-shocked as if he wasn't used to what's going on.

Everything ended smoothly and everything was all peaceful and in order throughout the light dinner in the Yang Mansion. Of course, Lexi ate as much as she could, as she would never trust any food given by the Lu's (except EthanLu), afraid that they would poison her to death.

[Present Time]

Recalling all that happened at the Yang Mansion, Lexi still felt more and more anxious as they drew closer to the said event. What's more that they have arrived. Hence, she felt she needed more time to calm and recompose herself, reasons for her to ask Nico Zhuang to drive her to the parking space. After all, just like what Edward Lu said, once she steps her foot inside the Lu family territory, there was no turning back. Therefore, Lexi mustered her courage and calmed her breathing, taking in as much air as she could before entering the same atmosphere she was faced with earlier.

Closing her eyes while resting her jaw by the back of her hand, Lexi yawned because suddenly, she felt sleepy— hormones. Just then, she heard Nico Zhuang's stern voice reach her ears. "Madam, do you need to rest first?"

Slowly opening her eyes, Lexi's earlier relaxed countenance vanished without a trace because the moment her eyes opened, her natural sharp eyes turned even sharper as a glint flashed across her eyes.

"No, I am going." With that said note, Nico Zhuang nodded his head once before he hitched out of the driver's seat and jogged his way to the door of the back passenger seat where Lexi sat near.
