The Rise of the White Lotus

Chapter 308 - Positive

[Flashback on what happened hours ago: Yang Manor]

As soon as Lexi arrived at her parent's place, she was welcomed by a warm hug from her mother. Not just her mother but Frederick Yang was also there with Doctor Xu sipping their own cup of tea.

"Dear, please be careful— you should have waited for your father's driver to pick you up! You shouldn't drive alone you know." Lillian Yang lectured but her voice was laced with endless worry about her daughter's well being. After all, she was already sure that her daughter was pregnant.

"Mom, we are not sure yet." Obviously, Lexi already guessed her mother's certain assumptions. Thus, she could only say these words to reduce the pain of not being pregnant. After all, her parents had been too excited to have a grandchild as they hadn't moved on from their crazy shopping sprees hoping for the bun in the oven to come.

"Here, here, take a seat." Gently assisting her daughter to take her seat, Lexi could only let out a faint sigh as she followed her mother.

Soon, both Yang ladies perched to her mother's usual spot while Frederick Yang sat on the head seat as usual— sitting across the two ladies, the elderly Doctor Xu, who peered at Lexi from head to toe.

"Young Miss, your complexion is rather pale… that is not a safe sign of being pregnant." Commenting after a closer look at the seemingly tired look plastered across Lexi's face, Doctor Xu slightly shook his head. After all, what news he received was a firm 'my daughter is pregnant' from Lillian Yang. Hence, he already assumed that she was.

"Doctor Xu, I am not sure just yet." Guessing why the said doctor would have such assumptions, Lexi was tempted to roll her eyes. Knowing her excited parents, they must have told him that she was already confirmed pregnant and asked him to make prescriptions. Well, it would only make sense as she was an unmarried woman and a public figure at that. Hence, privately asking a specialist to prescribe her pregnancy vitamins and checking on her condition was an understandable misunderstanding.

"It's alright, young miss. You can take this pregnancy test first…" Nodding in understanding, yet, doctor Xu seemed he only said that as he thought that Lexi was still in denial. Of course, Lexi could only helplessly sigh as she took five pregnancy tests and listened to Doctor Xu's instructions.

After that, Lexi was assisted by Lillian Yang to the bathroom on the first floor of the house as her parents forbade her to move around too much or to go upstairs and test inside her room which was located on the second floor of the house.

"Dear, you just have to take a bit of your pee and use the dropper and drop it in here, okay? Do you want me to do it?" Worried yet excited, Lillian Yang repeated all the instructions like a pro and proposed that she should do it so her daughter would not mess up this simple test.

"Mom!" Shocked to hear the last suggestion of her mother, Lexi's face scrunched up as she immediately rushed inside the bathroom and shut the door behind her.

"Okay, dear! Mommy is just here outside okay? If you need any help, I am just here!" Outside the door, Lexi heard her mother's not so motivating remarks which made her eye roll. It was not like she would have to take an entrance exam today or midterm exam for her to worry like that.

Looking down in her hand, Lexi stared at the packs of pregnancy tests in her hand before she unconsciously swallowed a mouthful of saliva. Perhaps, this was the only test that she has mixed feelings of passing. After all, although she loved Ethan Lu to the extent of offering her body and soul to him… what terrified her was if she could be a good mother.

'Lexi… you need to confirm it.' Mustering her courage and letting out a heavy exhale, Lexi opened one of the pregnancy tests and headed to the toilet bowl to force herself to pee. Fortunately, her mother made her drink tons of water which made it easier for her bladder to fill and rush out.

As instructed, Lexi did what she was she was told and used all five pregnancy tests. She then laid the five sticks on the flat surface of the sink and waited in anxiousness. Walking back and forth, Lexi kept on biting her thumb nail as the waiting time somehow felt longer than usual.

She glanced at the five pregnancy tests from time to time and only seen the one line. To her understanding, one line means she wasn't pregnant and two means positive she was carrying a seed inside her womb.

"Maybe, I am just overthinking…" Picking up one of the pregnancy tests, Lexi murmured as she looked at the red line. Alas, just as she muttered such remarks, Lexi saw another line make itself visible.

'Or not…' Her subconscious mind giddily added in a rather high pitched tone as if it was a minion.

Lexi watched the unclear second line remain before she shifted her attention to the rest of the pregnancy tests that also gave her the same result— positive. For some reason, unlike other soon to be mothers, Lexi had more heightened mixed emotions and fear was one of them.

After some time in silence while looking at the small white things with two red lines, Lexi finally exited the bathroom carrying all of the pregnancy tests. Upon seeing the inexpressive reaction of her daughter, Lillian Yang knitted her brows in worry as she dreaded that the result was negative.

"Dear, what is it?" Genuinely worried now, Lillian Yang slowly strode forward and stopped in front of Lexi.

"Mom…" Softly calling her mother, Lexi slowly raised her hand to her and gave one of the pregnancy tests. When Lillian Yang looked down and received the pregnancy test, her face brightened up seeing two red lines displayed on it.

"Oh my god…! Dear, I am so happy for you and Ethan!" That instant, Lillian Yang embraced her daughter with warmth and love— sending her genuine happiness to her daughter as well as to the father of their child Ethan Lu.
