The Rise of the White Lotus

Chapter 298 - This Is... Ethan's Doing?

His last remarks were akin to a real resounding slap— it could also be as if Lexi was splashed by cold freezing water upon hearing the old man's last remarks. Her gaze slowly moved around— to these seemingly mute men pointing their guns at each other and to Edward Lu.

Suddenly, the last person her eyes laid on moved his gun and pointed at her which made her swallow a mouthful of nothing. It was the first time someone raised a real gun on her, hence, Lexi was momentarily mortified by this scene, as she remained looking at the inexpressive guard on the side.

Meanwhile, upon seeing that his senior aimed his gun to Lexi, Nico Zhuang gritted his teeth as he swiftly pulled out a tiny and thin small dagger and then without any second delay, he threw the small weapon and scratched the man's cheeks before embedding on the wall faster than lighting.

"Haha! This young lad is quite impatient." Heartily laughing while slowly clapping his hands, Edward Lu seemingly complimented as his gaze caught the blazing fire within Nico Zhuang's pair of eyes. It was a flame of fury that a loyal servant has when his master faced a threat.

"Well, well, why don't we calm down here people?" Retracting his gaze away from Nico Zhuang, Edward Lu raised his hands and moved his fingers in an upward and downward motion to ease the building tension inside the house.

"It's not like I came to harm Miss Yang— that brat surely wanted to give this old soul a heart attack!" Shaking his head, Edward Lu let out a heavy sigh as he lightly patted his chest as if his health was experiencing instability.

"He should have known that if I don't like Miss Yang, she would have been long ago... resting like a princess sleeping six feet under the ground without her knowing— why cause so much ruckus when I just yearn to meet my future granddaughter-in-law!" Adding to his remarks, Edward Lu unreservedly complained without showing any sign of fear in the law.

Still, aside from the old man's voice, only the ticking of the wall clock was heard when he was done complaining about Ethan Lu's extreme precautions! He even dared to order these men, that already sided to him and swore their fealty to the new headmaster, to raise their guns on him! What an unfilial child!

Massaging his temples, Edward Lu felt aggravated as he leaned his already curved back against the sofa's backrest. "Aiya, I should have delayed my transfer of shares a few days later so he wouldn't have the audacity to do this to his old man!" Edward Lu went even more sidetracked as he reflected on his wrong decision days ago. He nearly forgot what he was about to say to Lexi as he was tempted to hang his grandson on the rooftop of the Lu Corporation— butt naked as a punishment.

Alas, he couldn't do that anymore, could he? After all, Ethan Lu was already a grown man and not the immature, headache of a playboy that reminded Edward Lu about his younger self.

"Master Lu..." Recovering from her earlier shock and Nico Zhuang's violent retaliation, Lexi loosened her tight grip on the armrest as her gaze locked towards the distressed Edward Lu.

"... this is, Ethan's doing?" Referring to the supposed peaceful conversation that quickly escalated to pulling out deadly weapons, Lexi recomposed herself and managed to ask calmly.

"Eh?! Isn't it obvious, Miss Yang? Why did you think these lads would have the guts to raise their toys at me?" In a matter of fact tone, Edward Lu snorted as if there wasn't a gun pointing behind his head.

'It's him...' Inside her mind, Lexi had mixed emotions regarding this. It was not that her feelings wavered or she was having second thoughts on being with him. Her emotions were rather a mixture of so many emotions that she wanted to rush her way to him and give Ethan Lu the warmest hug she could offer.

'No wonder he told me he has to be wicked...' Recalling Ethan Lu's words from several months ago, Lexi was reminded of the expression that was plastered across his face when he told her those very words.

He was afraid... now, she understood why he had such a reaction as the scene before her eyes... in just a second, anything could happen and this house would turn into a bloodbath.

"Why...?" Clenching her jaw, Lexi raised her gaze as she looked at the old man across her again.

"Why? It's because he thought I was gonna harm his woman, tch. Such a paranoid abnormal of a guy— oh!" As Edward Lu badmouthed his grandson, a sudden realization struck him that made his pair of eyes light up before letting out another set of loud laughs that bounced through every corner of the villa.

"That cheeky brat! HAHAHA!" Slamming his palm on the armrest, Edward Lu's laughter grew louder and louder until his gleeful laughter turned into a series of painful dry coughs.

"My, my, I am really at a loss with that cute grandson of mine! He never disappoints me! Haha!" Unlike his badmouthing and killing scenarios inside his mind, Edward Lu's attitude had a complete 180-degree change! Instead of curses, he was now praising Ethan Lu to the heavens.

"No... why would you raise him in such an environment?" Ignoring whatever happened to the old man, Lexi cleared her earlier question as she didn't care whatever reasons he had to do such extremes.

A touch of pain flashed across her nut-brown orbs as her brows slightly creased. She could imagine Ethan Lu, her better half's struggles and pressure just to live on a day to day basis.

Surely, one shall not judge people from the outside as they have zero clue what's happening behind closed doors. Although Lexi was certain that Ethan Lu has had his good days, still, the scene that shook her to the core... did the young Ethan Lu have to witness this from time to time?

Had he already witnessed someone's eyes dimming from this life? Knowing him, his strong determination to get out of his sick family, the word hate must have been an understatement. Still, in the end, he chose to go back to his family because... was it because of her?
