The Rise of the White Lotus

Chapter 132 - I'm Getting Married

"Ethan, so you have decided to be a candidate as the next family head?" Looking sternly across him, Edward Lu took a sip from the exquisite cup of tea.

"Grandpa, is this why you summoned me?" Ethan frowned. He only had a good five minutes of sleep before he was disturbed by his ever-reliable assistant Lyrick Jiang. He was told that his grandfather summoned him as they needed to discuss something important hence, Ethan Lu had to fight the urge to sleep more.

However, ever since he arrived, his grandfather didn't speak a single word for a long time and the first thing he'd uttered was this?

'Jeez, isn't that obvious? I don't understand why uncle and grandpa were acting as if they don't get the gist. It probably sucks to get old.' Having this thought in mind, Ethan Lu shook his head in pity.

Seeing his grandson's expression and guessing his obvious thought, Edward Lu's corner lips twitched. He tried his hardest to keep his heart at bay, afraid that if he didn't, he'd die sooner than expected.

"Ethan, do you know why I favored you to be my heir instead of your father or Uncle?" Clearing his throat, Edward Lu calmly uttered -- ignoring the disdainful expression on his grandson's face. He resumed after a second,

"One thing is that they kept arguing who was the most deserving between the two even before you and your cousins were born. I was pretty pissed that they are talking as if I am about to kick the bucket. But, as time flies, I noticed something."

Ethan Lu's brows raised as his interest was piqued. Granting that he had heard his grandfather 'reasons' on why he announced Ethan Lu as his only heir; that he was pissed with his uncle and father. Still, Ethan knew there was a deeper reason behind it.

Alas, Ethan Lu didn't bother to care as he never intended to inherit the whole company. After all, Ethan Lu was confident that he'd managed to maintain his lifestyle with his own endeavor as he didn't have a weakness back then.

But now, upon witnessing how cunning those core members of the Lu family and how they almost turned the table and put him in the disadvantage, Ethan Lu's understanding deepened. He realized that pieces of evidence and facts wouldn't work on them as they could always twist it to their liking.

Fortunately, Ethan Lu sent the documents a month ago to his grandfather hence, his grandfather certainly did his own investigation. Still, he must admit that it wasn't as easy as he thought about dealing with them and Ethan Lu was only lucky this time. Regardless, it wouldn't be fun if it was easily obtained.

"Both your father and uncle lack something… leadership. They might be good at business and how they accomplished their projects are commendable. However, they don't have good leadership which is the most important asset why our family stood at the top all these years. Ethan, your father was undeniably good at what he does, but he preferred doing things on his own. He doesn't trust anyone, even with little matter that is why his health deteriorated to that degree. Dennis, on the other hand, though he seemed he was leading his people, but, sometimes, instead of being in control, he ends up being manipulated -- that was proven by your father." Edward Lu's eyes suddenly turned solemn as he took another sip from his cup of tea.

"Eh? Then why did you announced I'll be your heir when I was 5? Grandpa, I don't remember playing as mafia boss with my friends." Knitting his brows, Ethan Lu checked the memory of his childhood days and nothing in his memory could be recalled as a sign of a good leader.

Edward Lu scrutinized his grandson's skeptical expression before he grinned, "True, but you can be trained."

"Tch, lame." Upon hearing his grandfather's response, Ethan showed a thumbs down. He already expected this type of answer from his grandfather. He added, "Which is a major epic fail."

"Ha! Brat! I wonder what went wrong with you." Sighing heavily, Edward Lu didn't have the energy to smack this blunt grandson of his.

"Hehe, Grandpa is awesome so I became super awesome." Seeing that Edward Lu's mood suddenly turned sour, Ethan grinned and immediately threw a compliment towards him.

After all, though Edward Lu was known to be strict, he had been always cool with him. Hence, Ethan might not say it out loud but he truly cared about his grandfather's well-being and would do any of his requests except being the family head… but now, he might accomplish that.

"Haha! This child… anyways, did you do any advice I gave you about… love?" Shaking his head as he was evidently pleased about Ethan's praise, Edward Lu changed the subject as he took another sip from his tea.

"Ahh! I almost forgot!" After hearing his grandfather's last remarks, Ethan was reminded about something important that he must discuss with him. He continued after a beat,

"Grandpa, I am asking for your blessing -- I'm getting married!" Ethan Lu asserted with a solemn expression across his face.

Edward Lu almost choked to death upon receiving the shocking news his grandson delivered just now. He let out a series of violent coughs while tapping his chest. His assistant on the side was alarmed and pour him a glass of water which Edward Lu drank.

"Brat, are you trying to kill me!?" When Edward Lu managed to calm himself, he bellowed and glared daggers at Ethan who sat across him.

"Woah, grandpa, chill." Raising both his hands, Ethan Lu flinched seeing that his beloved grandfather was triggered.

"Why are you suddenly getting married? Ahh! I forgot to say you must use protection, is she pregnant? Wait, does this mean I'm having a great-grandchild?!" Edward Lu was aggressive at first but concluding that he would have a great-grandchild, his face shone brightly and his eyes sparkled with hope.

"Jeez! Grandpa, I'm still wooing her! How I wish she'd bear my child with just my winks. I am just asking in advance because I might get married at any time." Ethan frowned as he too wanted a child with Lexi. However, right now, it was still a far-fetched dream.

"Tsk! This brat… giving me false hope!" Disappointed at how slow Ethan's advancement in his love life, Edward Lu dissed with a dismayed gaze.

"Aish! Aight, it's time. I must go, gramps. I still have an important arrangement for my future wedding. Don't worry, I won't waste my time when we get married." Ethan bowed his head as he asked for permission to leave before he slowly stood from his seat and uttered his last sentence with a sly smile on his lips.
