Chapter 2493: A New Path

Inside the life Palace, the projection of Ye Futian’s consciousness stood before the World Tree of his Natal Soul. He seemed to be pondering something.

Since he started cultivating, nearly everything revolved around his World Tree. By meditating about it, he derived the other sub-Life Souls. This was only possible with the World Tree because this Natal Soul could accommodate any and everything in this world and provide endless energy for him.

For instance, if he devoured the extreme powers of the Yin or Yang, he could extract them and convert them into his own power. The World Tree absorbed all powers in the world, but it also reciprocated Ye Futian with the purest of Great Path powers.

Looking back, without the World Tree of his Natal Soul, none of the other things could have existed. This World Tree was a divine tree, and all other Life Souls and Great Path powers were the fruits borne on this divine tree.

Perhaps that was the reason why even though his other Great Paths were all nearing perfection and had reached the ninth level, he still wasn’t able to actually break through the Eighth-Level. The root cause of all this was because his World Tree hadn’t evolved to perfection yet..

So, what should he do to take this next step and let the World Tree transform in order to break through the shackles of his cultivation level?

In Ye Futian’s impression, he had cultivated for many years. Today, he was more than a hundred years old, but this was only the second time that he actually met a bottleneck in his road of cultivation.

And this time, it could be a crucial hurdle deciding the rest of his fate.

If he couldn’t step over it, his road of cultivation could stop here.

Actually, Ye Futian was considered rather lucky. There were so many phenomenal individuals from past to present; every single one of them met all kinds of hindrances and setbacks on their roads of cultivation. On the other hand, Ye Futian’s cultivation journey could definitely be said to be smooth-sailing. Hua Jieyu was able to make the breakthrough in cultivation before him. However, Hua Jieyu was reborn after death and was lucky to be alive. In some sense, she was no longer the Hua Jieyu from before. She was imbued with the attributes of the Empress and fused with countless incarnations before becoming the person she was today.

But Ye Futian was different, as he was still himself in the purest way possible.

As the World Tree swayed gently, auras of the Great Paths in various colors flowed around it. Each color seemed to represent a different Great Path power: Gengjin, Yin, Yang, Life, Lightning, etc… Various Great Paths, all nearing perfection. They circled the World tree and caused the tree to rustle. It was as though that was its eternal state.

Ye Futian pondered, but after much time, he still couldn’t fully fathom it.

Several months had passed since he sat down. Atop the Ancient Peak, Ye Futian once again entered the state of meditative consciousness. When he woke up, he appeared extraordinarily tranquil. As the Buddhist light shone on him and the breeze brushed past him, Ye Futian reached out his hand. It was as though he could touch the powers existing throughout the world.

The higher the cultivation level, the more one could sense that everything in this world could be used.

Ye Futian pointed toward the sky and started to carve characters into thin air. His strokes were carved directly into the void, clear as they could be. These characters contained the power of the “Path.”

Below the Ancient Peak, Blind Tie raised his head slightly to face toward the sky. He could sense the powerful will of the Path.

From afar, Fang Cun and the others also raised their heads in that direction, and he said, “Is that character carved by Master? It looks like Master’s cultivation level had already reached the ninth level, but why didn’t he sense the breakthrough?”

Hua Jieyu and Hua Qingqing walked to the back of Ye Futian. Ye Futian stared into that character, then, he sighed. With a wave of his hand, the word “Path” disappeared from the sky.

“Your Path has already reached the ninth level, and it far surpasses normal ninth-level cultivators,” Hua Qingqing said softly. She had restored the memories from her previous life and was now extraordinary in every sense of the word. Naturally, she could sense that very clearly.

Ye Futian’s power of the Great Path was already very powerful—it was definitely not at the eighth level.

When Hua Jieyu heard Ye Futian’s sigh, she had already understood that Ye Futian still couldn’t solve the conundrum. He was trapped within it and couldn’t see through it.

She walked to the side of Ye Futian. Her pretty eyes looked toward him and smiled gently without saying anything. This smile was the best consolation for Ye Futian.

“Jieyu,” Ye Futian held her hand, “I still can’t do it.”

“With your learning capacity, there’s no way that you can’t make the breakthrough. Since the others and I had done it, of course, you can too. Perhaps you haven’t understood it fully yet because the path you will take is different from everyone else’s. And because of that, this is happening. If your path were as easy as the others, then that would not be you.” Hua Jieyu’s voice was gentle and tender, perhaps because she also sensed the tinge of frustration in Ye Futian’s heart.

After all, anyone would be frustrated when faced with such circumstances. Because he was unable to see through it, he couldn’t find the path before him; he couldn’t even understand it.

He was different from everyone else.

“Mm.” Ye Futian nodded. He actually had the same feeling as well.

He turned to look at Hua Qingqing and said, “This is indeed the Path might of a Ninth-Level cultivator, yet I still can’t make the breakthrough. After all, I still have some ways to go in my understanding.”

“Back then when the Buddha cultivated the Buddhist doctrine, there were ones which he had spent more than a hundred years studying yet still failed to understand. One day when he woke up from sleep, and he had an epiphany. It was as though the cloudy skies had cleared out, suddenly allowing him to see the sun.” Hua Qingqing continued, “Moreover, this happened more than once. The Buddha Elder often studied Buddhist scriptures thousands of times, even copying and dictating them tens of thousands of times, over and over again. Yet, he still couldn’t fully understand it. But one day, he just suddenly got it, and the rest is history.”

Ye Futian seemed to come to a revelation after hearing what Hua Qingqing said. He smiled helplessly. “That’s indeed how cultivation is—a build up to one point of completion. Perhaps this is happening because I haven’t had any bottlenecks before this. Of course, the difference between the Buddha Elder and me is that I don’t have too much time.”

He’s not concerned about being stuck at his current level forever. In the first place, there was no such thing as eternity. If he couldn’t do it in one year, how about ten?

If he couldn’t do it in ten, how about a hundred?”

Back then, the Buddha Elder poured his heart and soul into cultivating the Buddhist doctrine. He cared about nothing else, which was why he was known as the Ancient Buddha Qingdeng. Ye Futian respected such a state of mind, but his circumstance was different.

“The Great Paths are interconnected, and all laws in the world have something common among them. If you feel frustrated from cultivation, you can try studying Buddhist scripture. Perhaps it will give you a change of pace,” Hua Qingqing smiled and said. “There’s no need to cultivate the most powerful Buddhist superpowers; all you need to do is to read the Buddhist scriptures, calm your heart, and focus your mind.”

Ye Futian looked toward Hua Qingqing. She was definitely different from before. She had become wiser. After all, she was the Buddhist lamp that accompanied the Buddha Elder for years in cultivation, after years of listening to the Buddha Elder’s lessons on scripture, she naturally gained great wisdom. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to awaken intellect.

“I’ll try it out,” Ye Futian said as he nodded. Perhaps it would work. At the very least, it could calm his heart. As a matter of fact, over the past few days, his state of mind wasn’t as composed as before.

“I’ll accompany you,” Hua Jieyu said with a smile.

“Alright.” Ye Futian nodded. Then, he walked down the Ancient Peak together with Hua Jieyu and off into another direction. Hopefully, reaching scriptures would be useful for him in finding a way to make the breakthrough!
