The Kidnapped Bride

Chapter 264 - Snatching From Lucas!

The voice was very much clear to everyone. Turning around, Lucas and Amara saw Grandfather Smith with a stick in her hand.

"Grandfather.... you called them here? Please tell me this is some kind of joke that you said." Lucas can't even come to this term when his grandfather took the step.

Especially after knowing their identity too well, and how much hatred they bore for each other.

His eyes were searching to hint, any laugh yet found none. His grandfather maintained a stoic face, which gave no clue about what was currently going on in his mind.

Neither can he predict the same.

At the sight of Grandfather Smith, James walked closer to him. Bowing slightly, he nodded in his acknowledgment and hugged him, "Meeting after long."

"Indeed. I'm glad that you accepted my invitation to arrive…" At this statement, grandfather's eyes traveled to Veronica who was still wearing sour expressions.

But Amara was worse than that. Her face was initially covered with horror, an expression where her heart pounded at the rapid speed. 'Father called them? Oh god.. what is he going to say now?'

Her instincts were striking at her right place since she knew that he wouldn't do so until something had been planned in his mind.

James brought his grandfather closer to where they all were seated. Holding his other hand, he sat on the couch with ease when the grandfather sighed and then stared at Lucas.

"You brat, what are you doing here today? Shouldn't you be at your work?" Lucas's eyes never tore from James's actions when he answered back, "I wanted to meet mother.. so I grabbed it. But it seems that if I hadn't been here, you were planning to meet these two behind our backs?"

"What do you mean by back? I invited these two here, personally. Since this is my household, I do have the independence to do as per my liking." Grandfather put pressure over each and every word, he made it clear that there is no one except them who can direct or order him around.

Lucas'slips pursed when he had no intent to revoke anymore. All he did was pass this bastard full of gazes in James's direction, who was also ignoring him like thin air.

Since it made no such impact on either, Veronica took the seat opposite Grandfather and asked with a  straight face, "The reason for calling us here?"

"You haven't forgiven me, have you?" Grandfather's question left her dumbstruck. She wasn't expecting him to reminisce. "I haven't. What you did was.. out of my sorry."

"It entirely disturbed my life and.. snatched many things. Forgiving you? You never did anything which will make me have the proper sign." Veronica was straightforward with her words.

Everyone present in the entire hall was aware of the past very well and how Veronica suffered due to the elders.

So did James, but he had no plans to bring it up to gain sympathy. Knowing that the past is gone, he had nothing in his hands, he isn't willing to talk about it.

Grandfather nodded his head in understanding, "I know… old grudges are hard to let go."

"You are right. The oldest wound is.. the deeper is the mark of it." Veronica sarcastically mumbled when no one even denied that. "I won't ask for your forgiveness anymore.."

Hearing this, her lips curved upwards, "That would be better. I would appreciate it if you would even come to the real talks rather than beating around the bush.."

Even Amara as well as Lucas are curious. In what conditions has their grandfather called this lady and her son? Especially when they aren't on good terms either.

Grandfather lowered his head slightly and lifted his chin with all the rudeness in his eyes. "My son died.. but he left two children."

"Knowing that one is.. out of his marriage while one is.. from his legal wife, I can never deny that Smith has two current heirs."

Amara wasn't surprised by hearing his. Her grip tightened on the fabric of the sofa when her lips twisted, 'Now.. he is willing to accept? Earlier, you were the one who had sent James abroad to handle the business..'

But she won't let her thoughts appear on her lips since she knew that consuming it might be hard to regain.

Grandfather continued, "But.. I chose Lucas because he was the legal wife of my son. This wasn't your fault Veronica but.. anyways, I had sent James to handle the business of Smiths abroad.."

"While Lucas was doing wonderful in the past. Unfortunately, the management has declined nowadays and I can find tons of mistakes in you, Lucas, who care enough to make my hard work go in vain."

Lucas's jaw hardened when he let out a scoff, "You think so? Haven't I  managed everything wonderfully in the last few years already?"

"You did so and I never denied that but.. from a few years ago, your behavior and your attitude isn't the correct one… at least not the one I'm looking into." Grandfather's words are like a bomb to his face.

Neither was he willing to accept nor was he going to change himself for this old man, who has a few more years to live by.

His morals? Well, he can keep them to himself since he doesn't work on any kind of morals. 'Being Mafia.. he wants us to go through the rules and regulations and management? Hah!' In his eyes, his grandfather was forgetting the real meaning of being a Mafia.

"What have you laid out, father?" Amara asked with utmost cautiousness in her voice. Grandfather's eyes were now staring at Smith's daughter in law who was still dumbstruck by the news.

"This Is to bring to your notice that… James will return back  to our state, to handle some of the business of Lucas.. which I'm giving to James."
