The Kidnapped Bride

Chapter 15 - Rivalry

Saved life? But how? Jennifer wanted to ask further but her instincts told her to not interfere in this matter. At least not now when she doesn't have him at all.

They both walked inside the deep forest, and at some patches, the ground was still wet which made it muddy. All thanks to her shoes, she didn't slip in them.

Walking under trees wasn't easy. At the same time, it saved them from the deep scotch sunlight that was there outside. The vegetation was huge, and her eyes swept through different variants of trees and plants.

For her, it was a sight to witness and roam so freely in such a deep forest. The trail was so clear to see, that it never made them think twice in which direction they would have to walk.

With the passing times, she realized that Javier was quite correct. Ellen does know about each place with care because he guided her too smoothly.

But Jennifer wasn't able to control her mouth from asking various questions anymore. "Well, are you aware of the enmity between the Johnson and the Smiths?"

Her question seemed to make him think twice before he could have replied to her. She stared at his facial expressions, to see that he was worried.

It was obvious that he had no idea whether to answer her or not. To ease his mind, she passed him her assured words, "Do not worry, everything that we talk about will stay in between us."

"I do have some idea about the ugly and strained relationship between both the communities but not to that level. You see, both the states have maintained the peace treaty for so many years already." Ellen finally spoke after a long battle in his own mind.

"You mean to say that the new generation hasn't seen any conflicts and the wars that the old age people used to describe?" As both the states were in rivalry with each other, she knew that it wasn't easy to know things out of him.

Ellen kept on walking beside her, guiding her from time to time to whether to step on different kinds of rocks or not. They were in the middle of the forest when she heard the chirps of birds.

"Well.." he had to be cautious while giving her any kind of information yet he tried his best to explain, "You can say that both the families never interfered with each other's matters. Sir's family has kept themselves reserved and private as always and never tried to take any rift with the Smiths. But.." he stopped in the middle.

Jennifer finished his sentence, "But now that Javier has kidnapped me, it would be considered as the start of another rivalry between both parties."

"Exactly. That is why sir brought you here, so you could be safe. After all, you are an innocent soul in this and he doesn't want you to be tangled between both states of anger."

Jennifer slightly nodded her head in understanding and passed him a light smile. Inside her heart, she was quite relieved that the mess won't be created in front of her.

Considering her as the innocent soul? She really doubted the tag that they used to describe her. Still, she will let them use it for a while until her cover isn't pulled off.

At last being at this distant island, did save her from something which she wished to stop. Lucas and her family won't be able to contact her and that was a stress buster but she won't be able to contact anyone out of her group, was another tension that grew inside her mind.

But it was supposed to be strange. Why is Ellen even describing and telling her things? Wasn't he afraid that Javier would get angry over him because of this?

'Maybe Javier already instructed him to answer only limited questions..' she won't believe that Javier never knew that her mind was full of curiosity.

He could see through her soul too well and it mustn't be too difficult for him to already tell his people. Looking at the places they passed on, Jennifer was looking at someone.

Unfortunately, her high hopes were right. There was nothing to see, to do in this island and deep forest. It was getting impossible for her to escape through anyone's help for sure.

After a walk on the trail for almost one and a half an hour, Jennifer's legs did give up. "Can we take a small break? For like fifteen minutes?"

"Sure miss." He guided her to one of the trees which had a solid trunk. "You can sit here."

Jennifer made herself comfortable when she sat on the large trunk tree. At first, it was difficult but with the help of Ellen, she successfully climbed up.

From a certain height, her eyes roam in different directions. But she wasn't able to catch anyone, of her known or someone.

Everything that came in her large view was the large trees and their bushes. 'These trees must be hundred of years old..' their density made her prediction.

Her eyes traveled to Ellen, who didn't look tired in comparison to her. When she failed to get any answers related to the Johnson and Smith family anymore, Jennifer decided to change the topic.

"Ellen, these trees.. they must be very old, am I right?" She asked with a cheerful attitude, to avoid any kind of suspicion on her.

"Yes, Ms. Taylor. They are too old to even count. We all don't even know when this island was discovered and formed." This was surprising to hear.

"But what made Javier buy this island? I mean he has so much money, why buy something like this which is so far away from home?" Her question was relevant but Ellen was quite stunned to hear that.

Hearing her questions Ellen lowered his head. "This villa...
