The Kidnapped Bride

Chapter 148 - Not Going To Marry

TON! TON!

Jennifer's heartbeat increased at a rapid speed.

She wasn't able to describe how others will react since this was also considered to be taboo in this state ad well. Similarly, how Johnsons are regarded to be enemies in her state.

In her heart, she had killed Shirley a thousand times by stabbing her with a knife.

But in reality, she was sitting opposite her with a wide smirk on her face which irritated Jennifer to the next core. All she wished was to rip that fucking smile over her face.

"Jennifer… are you engaged to Lucas Smith? The smith family…?" The lady sitting beside her, named Mrs. Chloe asked in a slight unwelcoming tone which indicated her displeasure quite evidently.

This was what Jennifer doesn't wish to face.

Every time whenever her name was tagged with that bastard, her reputation goes down miserably.

Nevertheless, a chuckle passed through her lips, she spoke, "Oh.. does it matter? You know aunt since I met Javier, I understood so much about this place. The weddings here take place on the wish of the children, unlike mine where my parents simply asked me to be in so."

"Really? You have the cycle of arranged marriage, back at your place then?" Mrs. Chloe asked with a quite surely surprising expression and in truth, she received a nod from Jennifer's side as well.

"Oh, My Gosh.. why so?" The lady asked, "Because… I was too young to say, I was the first person in my family to get married. All my friends are abroad so...you know."

Making up an excuse was pretty easy for her when all the ladies started telling about the wedding and the rituals in Johnson's state that take place while conducting a ceremony.

This was kind of new since the entire focus was shifted towards the marriages that take place in the states, rather than her own wedding.

She attentively listened with all the ears to their conversation but the change in the topic didn't seek to please Shirley at all.

Emily nudged her mother-in-law's hand, giving her a look to strike the conversation, at the right moment.

Interrupting everyone, Shirley mumbled, in the middle of the important talks, "Don't worry about that.. Jennifer, you will marry soon so you should also focus on your wedding too."

The half-smile on Jennifer's face froze.

She thought she has successfully shifted the entire talk in the other segment yet looks like this lady will not let it go so easily.

Giving her a sign of warning didn't seem to work too since the lady was bent on making her look down in front of others now.

At last, Jennifer spoke with a revoked mind, "Mrs. Shirley, sorry to burst your thought's bubble but I believe I will not get married. I have thought of exploring more and marrying by my choice." This showed the interest of many people present in the hall.

All the ladies weren't simply interested in gossip but about her love life too, which she told very and highlighted very gracefully. "Since I wish to be independent, I was wondering why not to move to another place. And why not to this state as well? You see, there are so many beautiful things here... so much calm.."

"I hope I will get some help from others as well.. probably from you all, to have the citizenship of here, I believe?" She moved her gaze from Shirley to other ladies, hoping they to extend their support in the favor.

One by one, the same ladies did what she asks for.

They told her how they will talk with their husband to grant her citizenship, which made her a lot happier.

At last, Jennifer took the conversation to another level via her words, "Anyways, I was hoping for a good and comfortable stay here, in Johnsons as well but unfortunately, they aren't up to the mark."

"What happened." Mrs. Chloe asked with quite an interest when Jennifer made a face.

"Oh, you see.." Jennifer said in a sad voice, "They are too big and might. Ms. Emily thinks that I'm trying to steal her dear husband, which is not true. In return, Javier told me himself that he wasn't even married! I...I m just don't want any wrong tag...."

It was easy to play the sympathy card since it worked well with the rest of the ladies who were influenced easily by her emotions.

By taking her side, she was keen on showing Emily's position right now, similar to how she did early in the morning.

"I can't even believe that! Shirley, you treat your guests so badly? She is such a nice lady yet…unbelievable.."

"At least have some shame. I agree she is from another land but.. your daughter-in-law is too much. I can see how badly the lady is affected! Gosh, Shirley.."

"Mrs. Johnson, I shouldn't speak but you should see if you're choosing the correct daughter-in-law or not."

Enough to see how other ladies bashed Shirley, in front of her and same brought a triumphant smile over her lips yet it was hidden from other's eyes.

Her eyes narrowed slightly when she observed how much Shirley seemed to be affected by the turns in events, after all, Shirley only cares about herself, not about anyone else.

"Oh.. leave it.. since I'm Lucas's bride they.. leave it.."

"Don't worry child, you come and stay with me. I will be super happy about the same." Mrs. Chloe answered and offered and Jennifer felt blessed.

"I will see. Thank you so much for that offer.."

Everyone was having their talks and chilling but Shirley was burning deep in anger.

But Jennifer's smile froze when one lady asked her

"Child, since you aren't married yet, are you looking for any man? My son is also single.. if you want I can make you meet him!"
