The Devil's Sweetheart

The first rays of sunlight lit up the room and the rising sun cast a rosy hue across the morning sky. The melodic song of birds drifted into the ears of a peacefully sleeping girl. Remembering her mission, Leena woke up as fast as the Korean 4G service and immediately got out of the bed. In hopes of finding him, she entered the bedroom, but then again, he was not available.

"Where does he goes every morning? Wait! Does he have superpowers and can go invisible wherever he wants? What kind of weird habits he is possessing?"

Her stomach made a loud rumble asking for her morning dosage not to think further about his matter.

Getting fresh, she went down, had breakfast and her banana smoothie, and began to hunt but the man in question was nowhere to be found. Dejectedly, Leena went into her room again.

"Why is he torturing my darling?" Leah immediately made a call to Devin and asked him to meet at a place. She has seen Leena searching for Devin continuously and that's how she knew about it.

"She is searching for you since morning. What did you do to her?" Leah demanded, her fire flaring in her eyes when she recalled Leena's sad face.

"She is not even treating me as her friend." Devin let out a bitter laugh when he recalled the silent treatment and her refusal to answer his question.

"Did you at least ask her to be your friend?"

Leah's question was a sudden turn off to Devin.

"I have never seen her approaching a man since I have known her for five years. You hold a special place in her heart but she doesn't know how to express it. You have to bring her feelings out slowly, Vincy. Don't fight for every simple thing, you will get pushed away completely. If you are thinking that the push and pull game works on her, then you are wrong. Go back and talk with her."

Leah's every word was an eye-opener for Devin. When he recollected her words, Devin indeed felt, he acted a little childish yesterday shutting down the door loudly in front of her. He did not know why he was dwelling over her past when they have so many things to deal with. He was never in a relationship to know how he should act over. Only when Leena came into his life, he started understanding little by little.

"I will go and talk with my sweetheart." He immediately got up and hugged Leah for freeing his muddle-headed brain. "Thank you so much."

"Thank God! I thought you would drag it for months. I wouldn't have considered you as my brother if you were again stubborn. I would have given my darling to some other man."

"Don't even think of another man. Besides, only I can handle her narcissism and weird stories." Devin chuckled reminiscing her funny cook up stories.

"For that, you need to get approval from her Francy, dear brother." Patting his back, Leah fled away to take care of her wedding preparations without knowing she has left the man in confusion.

Francy? Am I hearing correctly? It cannot be a coincidence for twice. Intuition was telling him that his theory was right. He already had a hunch since he first learned her name. But still, Devin wanted to confirm it once for all. He pulled out his mobile and made a call to that person immediately and soon it was lifted in the first ring.

"Vincy my dear Vincy. How are you?"

"Lifting in the first ring is proof that you are in the bathroom." Since they knew each other, his friend has a habit of going to the bathroom umpteen times and with time and technology, he started taking his mobile to the bathroom so that he can watch something until he finishes his work.

"You have started again!" Devin could hear a cry from the other end.

"I am not interested to hear your bathroom stories, Wilbur. What's your cousin's name?" He demanded an answer.

"That crazy nut is not my cousin! Why do you want to know about her all of a sudden?" Wilbur screamed. Since morning, he had a hard time spending in the bathroom due to his loose motions and when Devin talked about that crazy idiot, his mood turned worse.

"Don't test my patience, Wilbur. What's her name?" Devin stressed. He doesn't understand why everyone calls her a crazy nut. For him, she is the cutie pie.

"Leena, Leena Crazy," Wilbur confessed. He has long removed her surname Hayes and replace it with Crazy. That suits her better.

Even though Devin expected it, it was still a shock to him. Since from his childhood, he is close to Wilbur and he is closer to Francis than any of his friends. He has visited their house multiple times but never had seen her once. She was so near yet so far and it took him twenty-eight years to meet her finally.

"Are you there Vincy? I am talking to you."

"I am here. Go ahead."

"She has gone to Austin's wedding now. By chance, you are going, better avoid her. Else, you will end up in a mental asylum if you talk with her for just one hour." Wilbur still remembered how she has ruined her date with Tom and now the man is not even speaking with him.

"You better stay in Europe until Austin's wedding." He would only spoil the fun if he comes here. What an image my sweetheart has maintained. Without doing anything, she is scaring people in many ways.

"I am planning not to come there. After all, Austin did not come to my wedding."

"Why didn't I see your sister on your wedding day?" Devin asked. Five years back, Wilbur suddenly registered his marriage, and except for family and friends he has not called anyone and he has not given any reason why he has not held any grand wedding. Why didn't she appear at her cousin's wedding?

"I_ I have to go Vincy. My wife is calling." Without waiting for Devin's reply, Wilbur cut the call.

"He is hiding something," Devin suddenly remembered the cook up story Leena had explained to him when they were traveling on the flight.

"She has turned Francis Hayes into King Kong park. His face reaction would be hilarious when he comes to know about it."

Devin had an urge to play a prank on both uncle and niece.

"Let me go with my darling first. Later I will play with Francis."

With high spirits, he walked out and marched into their room. There she was, lying on her bed covering her head fully with a blanket.

Devin walked ahead and pulled out the blanket to ease her suffocation. But to his surprise, she was watching something on her mobile.

"What?" Leena glared at him. Why do I always get caught doing something in his presence?

"I am sorry. I went a little overboard yesterday night. If you are not ok to share about your accident. You don't need to." Devin apologized. When it comes to her, he doesn't mind even if he is the first to apologize.

"Why is he so sweet?" Leena whispered. She was thinking of practicing on how to explain about her accident, but here he is apologizing. I will explain to him later about my accident when I am done writing the full script.

"But I seriously got offended with your words." Leena tried to pull up her blanket, but it was stopped by a pair of hands again.

"How about I make a banana smoothie?" Sitting down on her bed, Devin asked.

"If you make it into two, I will allow you to become my friend and also you have to pass some_"

Before Leena could utter her words, Devin walked out of the room.

"What now! He is a sugar patient for sure."

Leena waited and waited. When he has not returned for a longer time, she collapsed onto the bed. Just in time, when she heard the footsteps, she immediately flared up again.

"I have brought three glasses of smoothie. So we are not going to be friends but best friends."

"No.," Leena said in a deadpanned voice.

"Why?" His mood turned down suddenly when she was not heeding to his request. But her next words were a relief for his heart.

"Idiot! When a girl says no, it means yes. Didn't you tell it already?" Leena pouted. How can he forget his theory?

"Did you find my answer cute?" She asked with a huge grin.

"Indeed cute. Just like you." Devin squeezed her cheeks. He was happy that their relationship is upgraded to best friends. Slowly, I will pull out her feelings also.

"Of course, I am cute! Because I am made of Copper and Tellurium."

"Oh, No! Another chemical compound. Is she still not over that laughing gas?" He whispered in a low murmur.

"Do you know the meaning of my sentence?" She asked to show off her skills.

"Well, my theory always debunks when it comes to you. So why not answer by yourself." Devin answered. Even if he answers correctly, she would turn his theory down and bend it according to her favor at the last minute

"Copper's symbol is Cu, Tellurium symbol is Te. So if I blend it, the combination becomes CuTe. I am cute." Leena explained as if it is a known fact. But for Devin, his mind has already exploded hearing her answer.
