The Devil's Sweetheart

The most dreadful creature in Morvena's eyes has walked into the room. How the hell did he know this place? Until now, she faced the wrath of a devil, and now she has to face the wrath of this creature as well?

''Who allowed you inside?'' Nick rose in full anger, watching Enger casually walk into the room. He has got a nerve to trespass their security, and on top of that, Enger's smirk irked Nick the most. ''Where is the security?'' Nick shouted. Before Nick went out to bring the security to throw Enger out of the room, Devin stopped him. 

''That's more like Devin I knew.'' Enger sat opposite Devin. He gazed at Morvena with spite before turning his full attention to Devin. ''Just in case you are wondering how I know you are here, I have been keeping a tight check on you since the day someone tried to harm my beloved Leena.'' With Devin's entire focus on him, Enger continued. ''I heard you had sent her to the high-security prison? I would have killed her on the spot I were you.''

Despite the serious situation, a smile erupted on Devin's face for the briefest second before it disappeared. "My wife doesn't let my hands dirty with blood.''

That triggered Enger. He sharply tuned to Morvena. ''I don't care why he brought you here. But you will stay silent. Consider it as my warning.''

''And if she refuse?'' Devin questioned.

The malicious smile returned to his face. He then addressed Morvena. ''You will end up like your mother.'' Morvena gripped her fists under the table. How long is he going to threaten her?

Before Enger got up to leave, Devin grabbed Enger's shirt collar hard. Enger scoffed, watching Devin's spiteful expression, which he enjoyed seeing in him. When he received the information that Devin brought Morvena here, he immediately rushed here to warn. ''I will soon take back what is mine.''

''Soon, you will end up with nothing, and I will make sure of that. Count your days.''

''Is it?'' Enger chuckled. ''Let's see.''

Releasing his grip over his shirt, Devin stormed out of the room. Giving a hateful look at Morvena and Enger, Nick followed after Devin.

''Are you okay, Devin?'' Nick asked, stepping into the car.

''Nothing is okay. Nothing is going as I intended.'' He massaged his forehead tiringly. Why is Enger connecting his memories with Morvena's mother? Who is she? He is not aware of what exactly happened in the past. Only two people know the truth. One Devin doesn't consider in the list, and the other is not willing to agree.

''Care to share what happened?'' Nick asked. ''Did you find something about your memories?

''It's.. a little complicated.'' Replied Devin. ''Let's go.''

''Alright.'' Nick nodded, not prying over it.

Two days passed. It was Friday, and weekend mode activated for Leena since morning. Reese took a half-day to go on a date with Andrew. So, Leena is left alone with Nick. 

Evening came, both had ramen at a nearby Korean restaurant and went to spend time in a park. 

''Are you still in love with her?'' Leena tested the waters. Over two months, Nick broke up with Merl. Leena or Devin didnot bring this topic to let the wound heal itself naturally.

''I was initially. But not anymore.'' Nick picked a small pebble he found on the ground and tossed it to the distance. ''As the days passed, I learned if I focus too much on the painful past, I will miss the beautiful future,''

''I am proud of you.'' Leena patted Nick's shoulder. ''I will find you a beautiful girl soon.''

''Madam matchmaker.'' Nick pressed his hands together and bowed his head. ''Let me be single for a while.'' He wants to stay away from the woman for a while and focus on work and enjoyment.

''No_''

To divert her attention, Nick changed the topic to something spicy. ''A new movie is releasing today, Leena. Shall we go watch?''

''Which is?''

''The 13th night.'' Nick chuckled, watching Leena's expressions go wild.

The name sent chills down Leena's spine. The last horror movie she watched haunted her sleep for three days. She hugged Devin tightly without letting him breathe. The 13th night trailer came as a suggestion on youtube. Her hands itched, and Leena tapped the screen. The trailer itself was a horrible sight to see, and he expects her to watch the one-hour movie and come back safe? ''I_I don't believe in ghosts.''

Nick laughed hard. ''yes..yes..During the day, Leena doesn't believe in ghosts, but she is a little open-minded at night, isn't she?''

Leena didnot comment, for she knew her tongue is tied up when it comes to ghosts.

''Honestly, Leena, the horror movies I watched are nothing. This is not the real deal. You should have seen Morvena's house in Russia when Devin and I went to warn_'' Nick clasped his mouth shut before he completely spilled the truth. Swallowing hard, Nick glanced at Leena, and he knew Leena caught his slipped tongue.

''Continue the story where you left.'' She calmly said. These two went to Russia and met that witch without informing her.

''Ummm....ther is nothing to the story. It's just slipped_''

''Tell your stories to kids.'' Leena interrupted Nick. ''Why did you both go to her place? Better tell this before I start my torture.''

He can survive physical torture, but the mental torture Leena gives is beyond his imagination. Nick vomited the entire Russia incident, including the scary house part.

''One year she tortured Devin by keeping in that house? My poor Devin!'' Her heart squeezed in pain for the turmoil Devin underwent. How did he become a victim to her? Someone ordered to erased Devin's memories, and she did it? A predatory expression settled across her face. Who could it be? What exactly happened five years back? Does any of the family members have identified his memory loss? 

Leena texted Harley and asked her to meet at a nearby park or any place for that matter without telling Devin. ''Let's go to WD.'' Leena got up.

''Why..why..I mean, are you going to talk about this? He would kill me for..''

Leena stopped his rants by shooting a glare at Nick. ''I need to give a certified drama queen runner award.''

''And the winner award goes to Leena Hayes?'' Nick questioned. She is not ready to quit the drama queen role as well?

Leen shrugged in an obvious statement. They reached the vintage cafe that Harley texted the address. Spotting Harley at the end of the table, Leena strolled and sat in front of her. 

''Hey, Leena! What's up_''

''Let's talk about pleasantries later, Harley.'' Leena cut her off. ''Listen to me carefully. Did ever Devin go on a business trip for one year long?''

''One year long trip was only place'' Harley recalled Devin's long trips. ''It was five years back. He went to a place."

''Which place?''

''Russia. He wanted to expand WD's business over there, but he did nothing there... literally nothing."

"Ummmm..does he call you after going to Russia?" 

"Rarely. Mom, and dad got agitated with his behavior. They wanted to bring him back from Russia, but Devin did not allow. He must have maintained a secret woman there. What do you think Leena?" Harley thought of provoking Leena.

Leena's imagination went wild, not because of Harley's provocations. Did Morvena kidnap Devin after he went there? ''Have you ever noticed peculiar behavior in him? Anything for that matter?"

"Why do you ask?"

"Just tell me, Halrs."

''Peculiar behavior..." Harley paused contemplating to tell the one incident she witnessed. In the end she went for it. "I know it may sound girly, but I saw him crying on many nights. He refused to tell the truth when I demanded. He threatened me with Jasper's matter if I tell the matter to mom, and dad. Adney thought a ghost possessed him. Some days later, Devin dropped a bomb. 'I am going to Russia to expand the business. Don't call me unless it is important. Take care of office in my absence.' "

He is hiding something from the rest, Leena presumed. "How was his behavior after he returned from Russia?"

"He was normal, just that he lost little weight."

"How did he come back? I mean did he come back by himself or someone tagged along with hin?"

"How did he come back?" Harley scratched the back of her head. Do I have to remember all these things? Why is Leena asking so many questions? "I don't remember." Harley felt a scary vibe. ''Something wrong with him?'' She has been receiving lots of complaints on Devin lately. Did something possess him like Adney told? Harley's imagination was running at a different level.

''Nothing happened. He is perfectly fine.'' Leena squeezed Harley's hands assuringly. ''I need to go. I will text with you later.''

''Alright. Text me back. I will be waiting for your reply.'' Harley shouted after Leena.

''Okay!'' Leena gave a thumbs up. The second they were out, Leena turned to face Nick. ''Let's go to Russia tomorrow. Only Morvena can fill the answers to our questions.'' If Morvena is Devin's first love, why did she erase the memories? Or is there something missing which she hadn't connected the dots? Right now, her mind is too empty to think of any theories.

''Devin doesn't allow you, Leena. Besides, she will not reveal the truth, Leena. She is a very stubborn woman.'' Two days back, he brought her on Devin's orders. She didnot open her mouth despite Devin's threatens. What are the odds that she would reveal it to them? Enger is also on his move. He is keeping a tight watch over Devin and Leena.

''Let's see who is more stubborn,'' A mischievous glint passed across her feature. Let's end this once for all, Morvena!
