The Devil's Sweetheart

The night Devin texted, Kurt was still in the office. So, he pulled Winter's information from the database and learned she worked in Leius Pharma labs before quitting unexpectedly. That instantly piqued his attention. His further investigation reported that she was a drug addict and was admitted into the hospital due to depression and a nervous breakdown. He ordered his team to dig deeper without letting them go home, and by dawn, they found all the mysterious connections related to Winter. 

''For a normal girl like her, she is very mysterious,'' Kurt told Devin, flipping the pages of the report. ''And she is very close to Landon.''

''Who is Landon?'' Impatiently Devin snatched the record from Kurt.

''He is the CEO of Leius Pharma labs,'' Kurt added. ''Thanks for your time, Vincy. You helped me to look in another perspective as well.''

''You asked me to come here to talk about your case?'' His anger got the best out of him in the morning. He has come here thinking Kurt would give valuable information, but it's all beside the point.

''Of course. It's my case related.'' Kurt confidently replied.

When Devin was about to throw the file on the table, his hands paused as his eyes briefly caught a name. A familiar name. To confirm it was not a mind-environment coincidence, he glued his eyes to the name. ''Marja Morvena. She is related to Winter?''

''Ah! Yes. It seems that she is Winter's cousin.'' Kurt said. ''But she is not of many benefits to my case because Winter rarely meets her.''

To Kurt, there is no use, but Devin got hugely benefited. He flipped the pages to read Morvena's background. Winter's Elder uncle married a Russian woman and settled in Russia along with her. Seven years back, Morvena's mom mysteriously disappeared, and her dad was suspected of her murder. So, he has been escaping from the police since then. The mysteries of Morvena's are increasing every passing day. She created a supergene machine, made his memories disappear. What is she? Time should only answer his questions.

''We can know more about Winter through Landon,'' Kurt said. ''I have a plan_''

''I am going home.'' Devin cut him off, clearing knowing Kurt is luring him into the trap in the name of Winter. He got the information than necessary.

''Aren't you helping me?'' Complained Kurt, but Devin was already gone.

''Will Kyle help?'' Unconsciously, Kurt's hand reached his forehead, where she hit him with the remote. ''Loose case has become violent.'' His thoughts then flew back to the day she embraced him into a bone-crushing him and instantly felt like strange emotions billowing in his body.

''No, I can't let this happen. I am a man of word. No woman shall pass into my life.'' He picked the report and focused on the case with determination, but moments later, he threw it on the table and went into his room, when his focus shifted elsewhere.

Back at home, Leena was preparing Cutie to take her to the office while Cutie was blabbering gibberish in her broken language. ''Fute teacher came to my class. He did this..'' Not knowing how to explain, Cutie explained it through gestures. Leena felt Cutie's signals are better understandable compared to her talks. 

''So he is annoying you again?'' Cutie nodded her head to Leena's question. Although Cutie changed the class, the flute teacher is still pulling pranks on her. He occasionally comes to the class and scowls at her, and Cutie is also a step ahead. She once pinched on his thigh without making it obvious.

''Next time, aim for his ring hair,'' Leena suggested.

Cutie giggled and eagerly bobbed her head. Recently she has immense fun with the flute teacher, and that's the only reason she is going to the classes without throwing any tantrums. Once Cutie was done with her dressing, she went to the living room to torture Nick and Jalapeno.

''When is your brother coming back?'' Leena heard Devin's voice as he arrived and hugged her from behind.

''Didn't he tell you?'' She asked, feeling his hassle. ''Probably another ten days.''

Devin felt like punching Wilbur right on his face. Ten more days, he has to wait! While going, Wilbur informed Devin that he would be back in a week. It's close to a month, and now he is back to square again. Devin put the thoughts of killing instincts and turned his attention to Leena. He wanted to ask how Morvena became her doctor but dared not to. The name itself can bring doom to their lives. ''I have a meeting with clients. I may be late to home.''

''Hmm..Alright...I will miss you.''

''Definitely, I will miss you.'' Turning her around, he pecked her lips. ''Love you.''

''I love you more than my clothes and bananas.'' Leena paused, and before Devin interrupted, Leena said. ''Don't ask me to prove it.'' His anticipation died now in seconds. 

''You are a mood killer, Leena.'' Devin messed up Leena's that she neatly groomed.

''Ah! My hair.'' Leena mirrored his actions and pulled his hair in addition to the mess up. Devin didnot dare to pull a prank on her again.

And then it took another half n hour for Leena to groom her hair. ''Let's go. I am excited to go to the office today.'' Linking her arms into his, Leena pulled Devin along with her. ''Aren't you asking why I am excited?''

''I don't want to waste my energy when the answer comes anyway.'' 

''Even then, you must ask.'' Leena reminded husband's duties to Devin. ''I will ignore your mistake for today. Back to the topic...I have hired a new girl for Renya's replacement. She will be arriving today. I am excited to meet her.'' With that, Leena went to have breakfast in happiness.

''I wonder how long she will last after knowing about you,'' Devin muttered with a shake of his head.

While Carrot, Leena, Cutie, and Nick were about to leave for the office after breakfast, Aunt Jalapeno called and came rushing towards them. Handing the box, she said. ''I made vegan chocolate chip cookies. Eat them for snacks.''

''Ah! Thank you, Aunty.'' The scent of cookies further heightened her happy mood.

''Text me how they taste.'' Aunt Jalapeno said with excitement and turned to Nick. She looked at her hands which are itching for a prank. Engrossed in his mobile, Nick didnot see the danger approaching until something sneaky arrived behind his back. Before his brain converted the image impulse into the object, the damage was already done. 

 ''Woah! Squishy, and Mushy hot cross buns you have.''

''Aunt Jalapeno! I am going to kill you!''Nick screamed at the top of his lungs, and when he lunged forward, she ran as fast as Zeus lightning bolt and closed the door.

Leena's laugh bubbled up like a summer breeze. ''This is what happens when you lose concentration.'' 

''I am going to kill her one day.'' Grumbling, Nick made his way to the door, criticizing himself for his carelessness.

As she stepped into the office, Leena straight away went to Reese's cabin to settle the old accounts. ''Reese Allen, do you know what betrayal is?''

Reese immediately googled and answered. ''Exposing to danger by treacherously giving information to someone.''

''Sadly, betrayal never comes from enemies. Isn't it?'' She questioned, crossing her arms.

Reese gulped hard when Leena's words made sense to her. So she found out? Who is it? Her Francy or Devin?

At the same time, Nick settled in his chair, and then he remembered the laptop he forgot in the car. Thinking of revenge against Aunt Jalapeno, he forgot that he is in the present. ''I will take revenge on her.'' Getting up, he made his way to the door and pulled the handle backward, without knowing a woman at the other end pushed forward.

When the door opened, at the sudden incursion, the girl tripped forward and screamed for the fall, but instead, she felt a pair of hands wrapped her waist.

''Lemon or Orange.'' She muttered, inhaling the fragrance of her closeness.

''It's G_rapefruit,'' He whispered in a trance, drowning in her ink pools.

''I like it.''

''Sorry?''

''I mean..the scent.'' The girl stuttered in a low voice, but still, it reached Nick's ears. His face turned beet red.. His blushing face reflected the glow of his heart.
