The Devil's Sweetheart

Chapter 323 - A Mediocre Beauty

As Tessa heard the footsteps, she opened her eyes and looked at her friend. ''Morvena, why didn't you tell me that it was Devin?'' She demanded. When Devin started asking deep questions she is unaware of, Tessa has to rely on her spontaneity. A little while ago, they received a call on the extension from the front desk. All the time, her friend's gorgeous face went ashen and pulled into a look of dread. After the call ended, Morvena briefly explained the incident and requested her help. Tessa did not understand the problem her friend was facing, but she did not probe much into it.

''He did not suspect, did he?'' Morvena questioned.

''I guess no,'' Tessa shrugged. ''By the way, how do you know Devin?... wait..Don't tell me he was the one you used to brag about when you call me every time.'' Tessa exclaimed and lunged towards her friend. ''Was he?''

Morven's smile confirmed her answers. ''OMG! Did you date my darling Devin?''

Dating Devin? That never happened. But, it sounded pleasant to her ears. If Enger were not in the picture, Devin would have been hers today. The smile, the care, the kindness he shows to that woman should all have been hers. If she hated anyone in the world, it's not Enger but Leena.

''Morvena, are you with me?''

Tessa's words brought Morvena back from the thoughts. ''Sorry, I zoned out. Where were we?''

''My best friend Morvena dating my darling Devin.'' Tessa grinned. ''I am curious about your love story. When did you both meet? Devin has a girlfriend, so you guys must have had a break-up.''

''Tessa, please, I am not in a mood.'' Morven's face molded into a ruffled look.

''You see, my friend, I can't sleep without knowing answers,''

''What do you want to know?'' Morvena sighed as she propped up her pillow against the headboard. Her friend will not let her rest until she gets her answers.

''It looks like he is searching for you. Why are you hiding away from him.'' Tessa curiously asked.

''Some questions have no answers, Tes.'' Morvena deadpanned. If she is not wrong, Devin is only searching for his memories. She sent his favorite flowers with a message card. Never Morvena expected that it would trigger his memories, which shouldn't be happening. ''He is happy with his life, Tessa.''

''If not then why is he searching for you? Honestly, I don't like his girlfriend. What did Devin see in her? Just a mediocre beauty who got fame because of her family status.'' Tessa's face contorted. ''She is no match to your beauty and brain.''

''Let's not talk about her,'' Morvena added, changing the subject to bring her friend from Devin's thoughts. ''Let's go and skate, Tes."

''Huh? Didn't you say no to it?''

''Right now, I am in the mood,'' Morvena said.

''Alright.'' Tessa grinned. ''Let's rock it.''

.....

Those fleeting memories are eating him up, draining his energy. Devin complained in his head. He was utterly exhausted by the time he reached home. He expected Leena at the doorstep, but madam seems to be very busy. Every day, just hearing his footsteps, Leena would put aside her work and appear in front of him. She would walk along with him to the bedroom, ask about his work, and brag about her office gossips, complain about her so-called enemy Mandy..the list will go on.. Just listening to her sweet words, his weariness would wash away.

As Devin dragged his tired body inside, he noticed Leena and Nick watching a dog show on the television. Sitting on her hind legs, Carrot was grinning as she watched her fellow friends' exhibition.

''Leena,'' Devin called her, and when he caught her attention, Devin pointed his eyes to their bedroom.

''I am watching TV.'' She replied, focusing on the TV. Finally, he remembers home?

''You can watch it later.'' He argued. Morning she was fine, and what's with the sudden cold shoulder? Did something happen in the office that she is showing it to him?

''No.''

Nick sighed and went into his bedroom. Single life is pleasanter.

''One last time, I am asking you.''

''I am telling you for one last time, I am watching TV.'' She barked at him.

Her words just traveled, Devin scooped her in his arms and carried her in a princess style. ''Release me, idiot.'' She screamed, but her hands automatically traveled behind his neck to clasp them.

''Your body says otherwise?'' He smirked and gently laid her on the bed when reached.

''Leave me alone. I am not in a mood.''

''Your periods are not near. Why did your hormones spike up suddenly.'' He whispered, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

''Don't blame on my periods every time.'' She argued, turning her face to the other side.

''Then why are you angry? You didnot come, and hug me, which you always do when I reach home.''

''Don't you know the reason?'' She questioned him.

''I don't have the mind-reading ability, sweetheart.''

''Along with that, you don't have the hearing ability also. I called you ten times, but not even once you picked my call.'' She panicked when Devin didnot respond to her calls. After tracking his location, Leena was relieved that he was in the office. But not answering her calls for the tenth time is not acceptable.

Devin immediately unlocked the mobile, and indeed there were several missed calls from, and all were unattended. His mobile was in silent mode, and he forgot to check. ''I am sorry, darling. I was busy with_''

''Busy thinking about the person who sent Birds of Paradise flowers?'' Her tone had a mocking edge. She didnot forget the picture he sent. ''You never told me they are your favorite.''

''Are you jealous?'' Mirth danced across his face. ''I thought I had told_''

''That's fine! You don't need to tell me everything. One thing, I forgot to tell you, Birds of Paradise are also favorite of my friend Enger.'' Watching Devin's face turning a shade of dark, Leena smiled in satisfaction for successfully provoking his ego.
