The Devil's Sweetheart

Chapter 292 - Where Is The Evidence?

Leena suggested having an interrogation for the four unofficially before Kurt takes them into custody for official interrogation. So, Kurt brought the five people to an isolated building away from the city. Leena spent a little time in the hospital with Devin before leaving. He was set on going along with her, but Leena didnot allow him to move an inch. His breastbone is not healed completely, and Leena doesn't want to take any risk at this time, not after he has passed the difficult stage.

The moment she stepped out of the hospital entrance, a reporter emerged out of nowhere and bombarded her with questions. ''Leena Hayes, did you find the person behind your boyfriend's accident?''

''A week passed already, but you didn't you catch the wind of the criminal?'' Another reporter chimed in.

''You should be asking the investigation team.'' It was Nick who answered it. Paving the way from the reporters, Nick guided Leena towards the car. The guards following Leena closely emerged out immediately and blocked the reporters from further moving.

''When are you going to catch him?''

''Please comment for our channel.'' The reporter made another attempt, but she was long gone.

....

''The reporters are nothing but hee-haws.'' Leena sighed as she looked at the five profiles on her mobile.

''I can't deny it,'' Nick added.

''James is an Architect, Charles is an accountant, Lidiya and Nash works for media. The interesting fact is, both are working in the same company.'' Leena voiced out her thoughts.

''Works for a reporting company? No wonder Lidiya and Nash asked about Devin's affairs.'' Nick retorted, shooting a look in the rearview mirror for any suspicious moves. ''Media would be twiddling their thumbs to get a single piece of information about Devin. What if Lidiya and Nash are only trying to pull the information for their channel ratings? After all, journalist job is meant for it.'' Journalists play a vital role in the nation's growth, and they do hold a respective status. If word goes out that they brought a journalist for interrogation, it will create a rift.

''I trust my intuition. Lidiya and Nash have something up to their sleeves.'' Leena muttered, gazing out of the window. When Devin informed her about the Norway visit, every cell in her body flagged a danger sign. Her intuition never went wrong, and then a disaster followed. Only if she had stopped Devin on that day...The painful memories surged back with force breaking her heart again.

''Let's see if they something,'' Nick said, and he suddenly remembered the list of people Fredrick mentioned the other day. ''It would be better if we check the three employees also.''

''I already did. They are clean.''

She is faster than a bullet train. Nick thought.

In an hour, the car pulled into the entrance of an old building. The moment Leena stepped out of the car, she clutched her dress in alarm as she looked at the eerie house. It was no less than a scary haunted house that she sees in horror movies. This stupid Swedish Butler didnot get any other place for interrogation? ''Nick, C_an you ask Kurt to change the location? It looks scary.''

''I completely forgot! You are a little open-minded when it comes to ghosts, right?'' Nick laughed merrily at Leena's actions. If he has to say Leena got any other weakness apart from Devin, they are ghosts. But it's not the time to tease her. ''According to you, ghosts appear only during nighttime, and we will try to wrap up before evening. Does it sound good?''

''Fine.'' She sighed. If it were some other day, she would have turned back and fled away, but not today. Warily, Leena nodded her head with a half-smile. Laughing to himself, Nick then led her into the house.

....

A while ago...

As usual, in the morning, Nash got ready for the office. He parked the car in the parking slot, and before he took a further step, few men appeared and pulled him into the car. Everything thing went blank after that. When Nash opened his eyes, he was in a shabby room with the same two men watching over him as if he has committed a grave murder. Nash was in a delusion that someone abducted him until he heard that voice. His heart hammered into his chest when the man finally appeared in front of him. There was only one question running on his mind. Did Kurt find out the truth? How? It doesn't matter because he has cleaned all the evidence, for that matter. Pulling himself together from the trance, Nash spoke up. 'Who are you? How do you know my name? Why did you bring me here?''

''We will make time for introductions later, Mr. Rivett.'' Another voice boomed into his ears. ''Before that, let's talk about some facts first.''

For the second time, Nash was taken back when his gaze fell on the gorgeous woman who just entered the room. Leena! What is she doing here?

''Surprised to see us?'' Sitting on the chair, Leena crossed her leg over the other and looked at the man in front of him, a hint of an evil smirk was evident over her face. Kurt signaled the guards to go out and settled in a chair, a little distance away from Leena, because he is still scared of women.

''Why would I get surprised when I don't even know you people?'' Nash calmly replied. Judging by Leena's confident tone, he was sure Andrea had spilled everything. Stupid dumb woman! He has clearly underestimated this woman! But did she think it is easy to tackle Nash? Bring it on, woman. Let's see what you are up to.

''I wonder if you are smart enough to pretend or you are actually playing dumb,'' Leena questioned with a mischievous smile on her lips.

''Look, Miss, I do not understand a thing you are talking about.''

''I am not speaking the language of light, right?'' Leena probed innocently.

Kurt shot a wonderment look over Leena. She is definitely a nut. He wondered how his friend deals with this fruit cake.

''I don't have time to entertain you, people. What is your point here?'' Nash asked, coming straight to the business.

''Fair enough! If you are that curious, let me come to the business then.'' Haughtily, Leena stated. ''Two weeks back, you had sex with a woman named Andrea Smith in a nightclub of the red-light district. What's your purpose for picking Andrea?''

''Do I need to have a reason?'' Nash raised his eyebrow in mock disbelief. ''She has got a sexy body. I got tempted, and we did it.'' He answered as a matter of fact. ''I am above 18, and I don't find a problem having sex with any woman of my choice. If you abducted me to interrogate about my sex life, I could sue you in court for trespassing my territory.''

''You seem prepared for the questions beforehand, Mr. Rivett.'' A twinkle of amusement deepened her smile. ''I am least concerned about your night activities. I am here to collect my answers.''

''What kind of?'' Questioned Nash.

''The next time you visited Andrea, you suggested having group sex with Andrea and pulled out the company CEO's private matters, and within a week, he was shot. The question is, what's your purpose in asking about CEO Wang Devin's business trip?''

Silence ensued for a moment, followed by a peal of laughter, echoed in the room. Nash clutched his stomach to stop himself from laughing, but he couldn't stop. Kurt's anger flared up, and before he got up to teach the man a lesson, Leena shook her head.

''What's so funny?'' Calmly Leena asked.

''Because it's funny. Can I ask you a question?'' Without waiting for the answer, Nash chuckled. ''What's your relationship with the so-called famous Wang Devin?''

''Wife,'' Leena again calmly replied, digging her nails into her hands to keep her emotions in check.

''Now I understand your pain.'' Nash laughed and glanced at Leena. ''Are you suspecting that I am behind the accident?'' Nash chuckled, shaking his head.

Leena didnot speak a word.

''I heard about a rumor..you know...your husband had the slightest chance of surviving. Honestly, I pitied him...living such a luxurious life, and suddenly dying because of a cheap hunter gun bullet.'' With a sigh, Nash spoke up. ''Luckily, he survived.''

Still, Leena didnot speak a word.

''I completely forgot he is hospitalized. How is is heart? Is it beating?" Nash remarked in a mocking tone. ''Who knows what kind of enemies he has got in his pocket. Do you have evidence to prove that I am behind his misery_''

PAK.

A tight slap echoed across the walls. The rambling slap caused Nash to cup over his ear. Not before he composed, another slap landed on his other cheek. "Another word from your mouth about him, I will slice of your tongue, bastard!"

''You insolent woman, why did you slap me'' Nash flared up, faint finger marks engraved on his cheek.

''Did I? Where is the evidence?"
