The Devil's Sweetheart

Chapter 220 - DejaVu

"How do you feel now? Do you often get pain?" Devin asked as he massaged her leg. When Leena was sharing her past, he felt a little familiar with some incidents but he doesn't have any clue. Though he asked his brain, it was not showing up. It's like a DejaVu all over again, boggling his mind.

"Not anymore. I can walk and jump like normal people. But if I am under a lot of physical stress, I get easily exhausted." When Leena heard that she has to be confined to the bed for a lifetime, she wished death would be the better choice. While she was in the hospital, she stole a surgical instrument when the nurse came to tend to her wounds and tried to attempt suicide but somehow she was caught by her meemaw, and from then on she glued to Leena 24/7.

"I am sorry you had to go endure a lot. I wish I was there to protect you." The despairing, dejected expression of Devin's face caught Leena's eye. Devin wished to stay by her side in her struggles. He wished to be there by her side, standing in silence to comfort her.

"Don't blame yourself." She tugged his shirt. "You were not part of my life in the past. It kills me to see you sad, Devin. I am happy that I have met you now. So, don't. blame. yourself. Understand?"

"As you say, madam." He kissed the tip of her nose and then rained all over her face with butterfly kisses.

"Can you find the person who saved me on that night, babylicious?" Suddenly Leena asked. "I have been frantically searching for that man, but like a spec of dust, he disappeared. I want to thank him for saving my life."

"I will personally investigate." He assured her. Even he was curious about the person. He genuinely wanted to meet and personally thank him for saving his sweetheart's life.

"Thank you a bunch, babylicious. You are the best." Francis has become a lazy bum and Leena doesn't want to rely on him alone. For five years, he couldn't find a single man and he is branded as one of the most powerful men in the country.

"My pleasure, miss narcissist." He mimicked in Leena's tone. "Watch some movies. I will go and make dinner."

"I will join you."

"No." He declined instantly. "Isn't your turn starting tomorrow?" Both have come to terms with cooking and every week, they would rotate the shifts. Once Leena helped him making dinner on the last day of his turn and the next day she came up with a stupid logic and dumped the kitchen duties on him for the entire week. "I know your tricks. But it doesn't work on me." Devin left to prepare dinner.

"His IQ has improved a little but I will not let him outsmart me." Getting bored, Leena opened her mobile and resumed the romantic series which she has watched in the morning before going to Devin's office. Recently, she shifted to the romance genre but none of them piqued her interest because, in every movie, she would relate the male lead to Devin and she ends up finding faults in them.

Just then, Leena received a video call from her brother. Immediately she lifted the call, and Carrot's tilting face popped into the picture.

"Carrot!" Leena screamed. "Are you missing me?"

Carrot bobbed her head. "She is not eating anything. Perhaps, she is missing you." Wilbur said.

"My baby! I will come and pick you tomorrow." Carrot has not met Devin and she was excited to introduce another family member to Devin. How would Devin react? I will give him a surprise.

"Leena!" Jane snatched the mobile from Wilbur's hands. "How are you?"

"Can't you see? Prim and proper." Leena proudly said. "What's up Sister-in-law?"

"I need your help in picking a birthday dress for Cutie. Can we go shopping tomorrow?" Jane asked.

"We still have one more month right?"

"Will wants to make it grand for her fifth birthday. We have lots to purchase. Considering my hectic work, I doubt I can finish it if don't start early."

"Alright." Leena nodded her head. "Let's do it then."

"At what time_"

Jane was interrupted when the mobile from her hand was snatched away.

"Hawoo, eena" In a baby voice, Cutie spoke up.

"Hawoo, Tootie! How are you?"

"Bing me nepa poish."

Leena sighed. She started again. "I am neither bringing nail polish nor eye shadows. By the way, I heard you are skipping school again."

"And where do you think she learned?" Wilbur came into the picture.

"I skipped only once." Leena pouted.

"Well, I_"

Cutie grabbed the mobile from her dad to talk with Leena again. "Come to my bday, eena. Dad will bing his fend." Cutie shyly remarked and cut the call.

"Shy Cutie." She giggled.

"Who is shy?" Devin asked strolling into the room.

"It's Cutie. Her birthday is approaching. Can you free your schedule?" Leena asked. She wants to show her crush is nowhere in front of Devin at the party.

"Wilbur already informed." He smiled and picked her up in his arms and carried her to have dinner. "Bring a gift when you go shopping."

"Okay."

....

After dinner, Leena cuddled in Devin's chest in the bed while he continued to pat her back while his mind was making calculations. As Leena stated, Ethan and his fiance were involved in the accident. But he has a gut feeling it's not the truth. Ethan's fiance met Leena before the accident. She must have known something. Target locked. She would enjoy her time with the girls.

Picking up his mobile, he made a call to execute the plan.

.....

The next morning, just ended with the meeting, Wilbur strolled into the office to rest when his executive assistant, Josie barked into the office.

"Ethan has come. He wants to meet you."

"Send him away." Wilbur went towards the book stand to grab a file.

"He wants to talk about Leena." Josie gulped as Wilbur's demeanor changed. "He has met her yesterday it seems."

"Bring him in."

...

The moment Ethan stormed into Wilbur's office, the only question he posed was. "What happened to Leena five years back?"

"Don't you know it already?" Wilbur chuckled without lifting his head.

"Had I known, I wouldn't have come here."

Watching Wilbur's calm stance, irked Ethan. "I am asking you again Wilbur. What happened to her five years back. Please tell the truth." He pleaded.

"Before I tell you the truth, let me ask you a question." Wilbur started. "Why did you ask my sister to meet at the cliff? Why did you send your fiance in place of you? Why did you ask your fiance to kill my sister?" Wilbur's voice raised an octave. Long before he doubted Ethan was not involved in the accident. But he was indirectly the reason for his sister's misery.

"W_hat?" Ethan's mind went barren.

"Aren't you aware of it, Mr. Davies?" Wilbur scoffed. "My sister was barely breathing when she was admitted to the hospital. For two years, she mourned in pain." Wilbur's heart ached in pain remembering her cries in the night. "You both have made her life living hell. If not my sister hadn't stopped me, you would be..." Wilbur shut his eyes clenching his fists.

"Leena was in an accident," Ethan whispered. That was the only thing replaying in Ethan's mind.. Casey met her before she disappeared. Did she?
