The Devil's Sweetheart

On the instant, Devin shoved her off and dusted his shirt as if she was a kind of dirt. He quickly backed off from her when she tried to reach for him again. His fingers clenched into fists and the urge to wring her neck was at the tip of his fingers. While he knew she is a mental case, he did not expect she would daringly hug him in the public. He wanted to go and jump into a river to holy his body right at the moment when the smell of her was making him nauseated. The only women he is close to were Harley and Leah from his childhood but it was all brotherly sign and the one woman he willingly clinged to her was Leena and only she could make him comfortable. Being hugged by this woman, anger welled up in his chest.

"Do you have a death wish?" He lashed out with uncontrollable emotion. "Get out of my sight. You are the most sickly woman I have ever encountered."

His words hit her face harshly. Regina was terrified to the core. She never expected she would hear those words from him even after she hugged him. She thought he would melt away by her touch.

She has abandoned her modeling career for him and became a designer and worked in his company to be treated like this? But still, she mustered up her courage to confess her feelings today. It was getting hard to talk with him in the office and when she saw Leena clinging onto Devin on that day, she couldn't keep her emotions in check. She has never seen him with a woman in the past and when he allowed Leena to hold his hand, something triggered in her.

Ignoring the lousy woman, Devin was about to step into the car, but her words stopped him in his tracks.

"I_I have been admiring you for ten years. I am in love with you, sir."

Devin turned to face her and gazed at the woman as if he was not affected by her words. How pathetic this woman could get? Even after he was chastising, she was in her world. A delusional woman. While he got many proposals from women, he never got aggravated like how he got today.

"Look_"

Even before Devin could complete his words, he was interrupted by a familiar voice.

"You dare to hug my brother, raggabrash?" Harley scurried to the place carrying a paper bag. When she spotted Devin's car after she came back from a shop, she was stunned to see that Devin was hugging a woman. Instantly she rushed to the place but as she got closer, the woman's face became apparent. She went cold with fury as she spoke. "I would have slapped your face now but that will be considered as animal abuse."

"You dare to call me an animal."A vortex of anger swirled inside with the intrusion." I am talking to sir. Please stay put or you can walk out of the place."

"When I see your face, even I change the direction of my walk, let alone my brother." Harley laughed throwing her head in amusement. How she wished, Leena was here. She would have grated Regina until she dies out of embarrassment. "If you are still thinking of a way to get my brother, then you are the most delusional absurd woman living in a fool's paradise. Didn't our Leena pot-roast you on that day? You might have known about her already. She is no good. Better back off before she shows her other side."

Devin wondered when Leena met Regina when he heard Harley.

How did Harley know about our encounter? Regina wondered. But it's not the time to dwell on it. She ignored Harley and turned to face Devin.

"I suggest you do a thorough background check on Leena before you consider a relationship with her." Regina tried to put dirt on Leena despite she knew Devin wouldn't believe her. Although it doesn't happen, putting a thought in his mind would create suspicion in the future. "She is a gold digger and she has affairs with many men in the pas_"

"Quiet!"

Regina shuddered with the sudden brashness of his voice. When she gazed up, she was met with hid icy stares that were venomous.

"Not a word about her from your mouth, you will regret living for the rest of your life." A thread of warning was fierce in his voice.

"I_"

"What do I call you for lying to ruin her reputation and worse!" He bellowed ferociously.

"I_I am not lying to_"

"You are the PATHETIC and MISERABLE excuse for being a human, I would say. Your obsession with me makes you more despicable."

Without heeding her explanation, Devin stepped into the car. Throwing a disgusting glance at Regina, Harley went in.

"Prepare a resignation letter for her immediately." Devin sped the car.

"On what basis? She did not show any discriminatory behavior in the workplace and we don't have any proof for her behavior today." Harley enunciated. If they expel her, Regina could file an unfair termination with the equal employment opportunity commission. Her attitude was obnoxious today but it would get a bad reputation for the company if word goes out that they have expelled an employee without any cause. She has successfully maintained no falsification throughout her career and it's hard to pull out the threads.

"There is one. Sexual Harassment."

"What?" Harley widened her eyes in shock. "But we lack evid_"

"Just do it. I will take care of the rest." Devin decreed. As soon he reached home, Devin threw the shirt and asked Harley to burn it and he then went into the shower. The touch of her was sending vermins throughout his body. It left him disgusted.

While Devin was in his plan, Regina was standing there acting like grieving in pain. But as soon as the car drove off, she cut off with her acting, and a wicked smile was plastered over her face. She glanced at the person who was hiding a little far away from her and he gestured with an okay sign before he scurried off. Although it pained to hear those words from Devin's mouth, she was fine as long as he could be with her.

"There is no escape for you, Devin." Regina declared. She knew there would be a resignation letter at her table tomorrow but at the same time, she was confident that Devin would be the one to take them back. "Check-mate, my prince. I have successfully caught you this time."

The moment the flight landed in New York, it was nine in the morning. Since it was a weekend, Devin knew Leena would either be sleeping or chit-chatting with that weird uncle along with Reese.

Without even going home, he drove to Greenwyn village all the while thinking of ways that she would react after seeing him. He has already informed Leena that he would be landing tomorrow but that was to surprise her and see the reaction on her face. It's been a week, they couldn't spend time with each other properly due to their time difference. Their distance increased for a while but his love has grown even harder for her. When he was about to step down from the car, his phone buzzed. Furious at the sudden intrusion, he checked to see the call was from Harley.

"She is disturbing me again?" He cut the call but it ringed again. With no other choice, he lifted the call.

"What is it now?"

"Did you meet Leena already?" Harley asked, her voice urgent.

"Not yet and can you please not disturb me for some time."

"Good that you didn't meet." She sighed in relief. "Come to the office. I am waiting for you here."

"Why did you go to the office when it is the weekend? Even if is urgent, we can discuss it later. Just let me with_"

"Check the News Today article." Harley was exhausted trying to make his brother understandable.

Her voice appeared very serious and Devin understood something might have gone wrong. Immediately, he cut the call and opened his mobile to check for the news.

The reporter has not missed any point while snapping the picture. The next photo was when Devin went to a restaurant with Harley, Regina appeared. But in all the pictures, only both were highlighted.

Seeing all the ridiculous articles, he threw his mobile and it broke hitting the door. He was sure it was a deliberate plan to trap him. Right now, he did not care about the media, the only thought that appeared on his mind was how would Leena take this. No woman would tolerate her man snapped in a picture with another woman even if it was falsified news. Would she believe me if I tell it was all a lie? She wouldn't. But he did not want to have a misunderstanding between them.

He tried to calm down but nothing was making sense to him today. Harley called him again. Devin lifted the call but did not speak a word.

"Come back, Devin. Let's solve this first. If Leena would have seen it, she might not talk with you. She might act on instinct and it would lead to fights." Harley was getting furious watching all the photos on her table. She didnot know Regina would act viciously even after she was castigated by them. Now, the resignation even can't work for her. She has planned it perfectly.

"I am not coming. Let me talk with her." Devin replied with a heavy tone. Instead of getting the truth to be known by someone, he wanted to confess by himself.

Getting down from the car, he walked inside and stood in front of her house. He rang the buzzer in restless. After a while, it was unlocked.

He gulped down seeing her bloodshot eyes.. He was doomed today.
