Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf

Chapter 87: To Europe (3)

Chapter 87: To Europe (3)

After waiting for one hour, Billy appeared again and led Luke to the biggest tent, where he found dozens of soldiers who were quite fierce. That was the group that attacked the monsters using the choppers. Luke became certain of it because they were all between levels 55 and 60. They also had some impressive gear, but their status was below Luke’s level.. When he wondered why he recalled that they didn’t use the skills granted by the system. They probably didn’t have even five of those, so it wasn’t surprising. Luke found a tall and thin man in his fifties among that group. His hair was a mix of great and yellow, and while he didn’t seem much of a fighter, Luke also realized that his level was seventy… his green eyes stayed focused on Luke’s for a while, but he soon looked away, apparently uninterested. He was Colonel Frank.

“The goal of this operation is to rescue some fellow Americans across Europe,” Frank said. “Some are civilians and some important individuals that must survive no matter what… we confirmed that only a few types of monsters can get on the way of a flying airplane, but don’t let your guard down because they tend to use suicide attacks; to achieve their goals.”

Luke had a hard time preventing himself when he heard the next words. The group was going to stop at Madrid, Spain, first and foremost. Due to the layout of the capital, the survivors were still locked there, and they were losing their numbers with each passing day. So, the group will have to jump off the airplane in parachutes and then open a path for the airplane to land. They can’t take their time because the airplane can’t fly without refueling. While they were going to carry some, they still would need to stop.

After Madrid, they will go to Rome, Italy. After that, Paris, and then Berlin… Luke only wanted to help his parents, but it seemed that he would have to participate in a large operation that would last a full week, in the best-case scenario.

“Sir, what about other survivors in those destinations?” Billy asked.

“We can’t rescue everyone. That is why it is important for you all to decimate as many monsters as possible. By doing so, you will give them more chances of survival,” Frank said with a deadpan expression on his face. “It is regrettable, but for the time being, we can only afford to worry about our countrymen.”

Something was off… Luke thought that they were going to rescue some bigshots of other countries as well. That seemed like implied hidden information… Nevertheless, Luke didn’t have to worry about that. He just will work to make things proceed as fast as possible for him to meet his parents.

“Usually, in this kind of mission, only military personnel would be allowed to go,” Frank said. “But some individuals that aren’t trained will join us for many reasons since they have combat experience against the monsters.”

Luke frowned when he saw Chloe stepping forward… and she wasn’t alone. Amanda and Celia also appeared. They didn’t seem that surprised when they saw him… it seemed that they had met Billy. They looked at him and forced a smile. While he couldn’t care less about why they wanted to help in that operation, something seems fishy. Even more so considering that their parents would be left behind.

“They may not have military training, but they have experience in dealing with the situation, so treat them like companions instead of just strangers who are going to help,” Frank said. “We will depart in two hours. Make your preparations accordingly.”

That seemed like a well-trained act, but it was better for Luke that way. There was no need to antagonize him if he was going to act like nothing bad happened over the course of the last week and with his orders. The meeting had been pretty short, in the end. So, the group quickly dispersed.

“Hey, Luke,” Billy said. “You never jumped from a plane without parachutes, right? We can work together to solve that.”

“Yeah, normally I jump without them,” Luke replied. “It is an experience like no other.”

“For how long are you going to sulk?” Billy asked and then sighed. “I am not too satisfied with the things as they are now, but it couldn’t be helped.”

Luke turned around and looked Billy in the eye. What about that situation was he so unsatisfied with? Regardless, Luke didn’t feel like arguing, so he just headed toward the plane while carrying his things.

“Hey, Luke,” Amanda said while approaching Celia. “In the end, it seems we are going to work together again, huh. I will try to repay the help you gave us until now..”

“Yeah…” Luke said and then checked their levels for a moment and noticing that hey were at level thirty.

“I am surprised that you found them and brought them back so fast,” Celia said. “We defeated some hordes and found some survivors, but in the end, we found your friend Billy and decided to work with the army.”

“How convenient that he found you guys,” Luke said.

“Well, we left a trail of zombie corpses nearby, and they were looking for survivors, so I don’t think that it is weird,” Celia said.

“Anyway, you two sure are brave in leaving your parents behind and risk your neck for strangers,” Luke said. “Brave or incredibly naive.. “

“We know that they will be safe here, and while they can fight and level up, it still doesn’t change the fact that they are elderly,” Amanda explained. “They say that they are feeling better and better with each passing day, but it is rough. They wanted to participate in the mission, but I managed to convince them to change their minds by telling them that we will jump from the airplanes… they felt that was an emotion that they didn’t need.”
