Chapter 308 - Rebirth of the Galaxy

Chapter 308: Rebirth of the Galaxy

The galaxy piano emitted a hollow and deep sound, so Xia Fei could not help but fall into deep thoughts. The sound felt familiar to him, yet he could not recall where he had heard or felt it before.

As a warrior who greatly relied on his senses, Xia Fei strongly believed in his instincts when thinking and analyzing stuff. Whether it was an object or a sound, everyone would have a different perception of them. It was akin to appreciating something; there was always a great difference between an ancient masterpiece and a counterfeit work.

The crowd asked Tai to perform a piece after Ernst’s turn. To Xia Fei’s surprise, the silver-haired general knew how to play the galaxy piano, too, and his level was on par with Ernst’s. His performance of the piece The ‘Octobattle’ was brilliant, with a majestic aura of a grand battle.

Xia Fei did not really care who was playing the galaxy piano, for he was trying his best to recall where he had gotten that feeling before. The more he listened to the galaxy piano, the more he believed that it was tied to an overwhelming lust to kill.

Avril quietly went up to Xia Fei and held his fingers tightly. He smiled at her. “The sound that the galaxy piano is producing is reminiscent of something I’ve come upon before. The two are similar in their auras; both are full of violence.”

Avril nodded at Xia Fei. “I also think that something is strange about this galaxy piano. My music teacher says that it’s the sound of the universe growing endlessly, but I feel that the sound should be lively and naughty if that’s the case instead of a deep, profound sound like this.”

The flirtatious expression and the smiles Avril wore during the conversation stabbed Li Mo deep in the heart. His eyes became vicious like a venomous snake, ready to pounce at Xia Fei and bite him on the neck at any moment.

Li Guan laughed as if he did not mind Xia Fei and Avril showing their affection to each other in front of the crowd. He signalled the old man with a goatee again, who nodded in return.

The third person to play the galaxy piano was a woman. She was said to be a noble from another sovereign nation. She was beautiful despite being in her forties, but the thick makeup on her face was unable to hide her wrinkles. She would soon age and lose her brilliance.

The beauty of a woman faded with age, and it must be the greatest sorrow of every beautiful woman.

The piece she was playing was quite difficult. Everyone could easily tell how complicated the piece was from her rapid movements. She was swinging her body with great force, her huge busts bouncing around in the process, allowing many perverted men to satisfy their lust.

The woman raised her hands proudly in the air after playing the final note, her face already covered in sweat. She smiled and told the crowd that she must excuse herself to touch up her makeup. The crowd sent her off with a huge applause.

The old man with a goatee stepped forward and looked at Xia Fei menacingly. “I feel that it’s too boring if only the old folks play the galaxy piano. We happen to have some fresh blood among us today; why don’t we ask them to play us a song?”

Everyone immediately fixed their eyes on Xia Fei; they all knew who the old man was referring to.

Avril suddenly tightened her grip on Xia Fei’s hand. She could see the gloating look in the crowd’s eyes. Xia Fei was from Earth, a primitive planet. He had just learned how to dance, so how would he know how to play the galaxy piano? He managed to make up for his lack of skills in dancing with his agile footwork, so he had not made a mistake during the dance.

Now, they were asking Xia Fei to play the galaxy piano. It was very likely that Xia Fei had never seen the strange instrument before today, let alone perform music with it. Obviously, these people were purposely setting Xia Fei up to embarrass himself.

Avril was enraged. She scanned the crowd coldly before landing her gaze on Ernst. She knew that her grandfather was the only person who could save Xia Fei from embarrassing himself now. Either way, Xia Fei was still a guest. Ernst had no reason to make his guest feel uncomfortable.

Ernst frowned. He, too, believed that the suggestion was crossing the line. The fact that Xia Fei was given the honor of the first dance already indicated his status as an important guest of their Jian family. These people were basically trying to embarrass the Jian family by not showing their important guest any respect.

A middle-aged man with a square face stepped forward and said, “The young man had the first dance with Avril, indicating that he’s not an outsider. Why don’t we give him a chance to play a piece so that we can get to know him better?”

Xia Fei could easily hear the gloating in the man’s voice. He faced the crowd with a smile. “I seriously don’t know how to play the galaxy piano, so I shouldn’t ruin everyone’s mood.”

The crowd chuckled. It was a party of the high society, so it was embarrassing for anyone to admit that they could not play the galaxy piano.

Ernst nodded. He was just about to give Xia Fei an out when Li Guan suddenly walked out of the crowd and said, “Young man, stop joking with us; no one here doesn’t know how to play the galaxy piano. Are you perhaps looking down on us with your willingness to share your skills with us?”

Xia Fei immediately realized that the father and son of the Li family were trying to set him up. Even if he did dodge the bullet this time, he would still embarrass himself in front of the members of the upper class. He might even make the headlines tomorrow.

The truth was that Xia Fei did not really care about his reputation, but with how Avril’s hand was getting colder, Xia Fei understood that this situation was not only placing him at the heart of the struggle but was also implicating her.

Avril had already shown her great courage by inviting him to be her first dance. Did he want her to endure the pressure of a lot of rumors again?

“Li Guan, do you want me to play you a song?” Thuram asked with wide eyes. He obviously sounded displeased.

Even the military triumvirate agreed that Li Guan had definitely overdone it. Even if he had some personal grudge against Xia Fei, it was inappropriate to embarrass him in front of this crowd. After all, the host of the party was innocent.

Xia Fei suddenly walked out from the crowd, went to the galaxy piano, and touched it with his finger.

“Since everyone is so eager to hear my performance, I have no choice but to do it,” Xia Fei said calmly, “but please forgive me if I’m not good enough.”

Li Guan burst out laughing and clapped. He knew that his plan had worked. Xia Fei would become the biggest laughingstock of the night after his performance. It was impossible for anyone, who did not undergo strict training, to play the galaxy piano. He might struggle to even play a note, let alone a whole piece.

Even though the experts were able to play mysterious pieces on the galaxy piano, the instrument also had another nickname: the novice killer. Xia Fei was not even a novice. Li Guan could not wait to hear Xia Fei produce some terrible noise on the galaxy piano.

Avril opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but swallowed the words, instead. It would be more embarrassing if she advised Xia Fei against it now.

She straightened her chest. Her feminie characteristics were starting to become more obvious. She looked at Xia Fei firmly as if to tell him, “Go do it; I’ll bear all the consequences with you.”

Xia Fei smiled at Avril. His face was at ease and brimming with confidence. Avril suddenly noticed that Xia Fei was not nervous at all. If the galaxy piano was a weapon, Xia Fei would be a warrior playing with it in his hands while facing the enemy provoking him in a calm manner.

Tai frowned. Being brave was a good trait, but overestimating one’s capabilities was not something a wise person would do. He shook his head and looked into the distance, wondering if it was better for the party to end earlier.

The soldiers had a strong sense of justice. The hot-tempered Admiral Layton spat on the ground and glared at Li Guan. However, the man was not bothered at all, since he was determined to let Xia Fei embarrass himself today.

He would soon put his plan to get his revenge in motion. Unlike Li Mo, Li Guan was planning to strike from all directions. Today was only the beginning; he had prepared a lot more delicacies for Xia Fei to enjoy.

Xia Fei sat in front of the galaxy piano. He looked at the crowd and exchanged glances with those with a gloating look in their eyes.

Xia Fei grinned and said, “The piece I’m going to play is called ‘Rebirth of the Galaxy’.”

“‘Rebirth of the Galaxy’? Did I hear it right?”

“That’s an insanely difficult piece. Could he really play such a difficult piece at such a young age?”

“Hmph! What a joke; I bet that he doesn’t even know what ‘Rebirth of the Galaxy’ actually is.”

The crowd began discussing among themselves. Thuram sadly covered his eyes and murmured, “Old buddy, Xia Fei is seriously going to embarrass himself this time.”

Most people were curious apart from being puzzled and shocked. Tai rubbed his jaw and asked, “Can Xia Fei really play the ‘Rebirth of the Galaxy’?”

Williams shook his head. “I don’t know; let’s wait and see, but I think it’s best not to have too much hope in him.”

Xia Fei’s fingers moved rapidly across the instrument. The first symphony was narrating the life of a happy meteor living in a galaxy. Xia Fei’s style of playing was completely disoriented. His finger placement was off too, but he had a good sense of rhythm. He managed to express the magnificence of the galaxy and the joy of the meteor.

Avril’s eyes widened in excitement. She grabbed Pang Xing by the corner of his clothes and exclaimed, “Xia Fei can play the galaxy piano; he’s a genius!”

Pang Xing smiled, “Young lady, the man you chose is definitely the most brilliant.”

Avril blushed. She grumbled softly yet seemed very pleased.

Li Guan’s face darkened. He could not understand why Xia Fei knew how to play the galaxy piano.

His movement and finger placement were clumsy. Everyone could tell that he was an amateur, yet the notes were surprisingly on point without any mistake.

Li Mo began to feel uneasy. Not only did his father’s plan fail to embarrass Xia Fei, he ended up getting a lot of attention, instead.

Li Guan tried his best to remain calm as he told Li Mo, “Don’t worry; it’s only the first symphony. The second symphony, Destruction, is the part where everyone thinks is the hardest. He’s obviously a novice judging from the way he plays the galaxy piano, so there’s no way that he can play the second symphony. He’s sure to sh*t himself.”
