Speed Is King

Chapter 86 - Gotta Do Something!

If he didn’t avoid the tornadoes, on the other hand, he would simply die.

The blade tornadoes would rip his honda and his fake human body to pieces. There was no question about it.

The only question was, will he choose to get disqualified, or will he choose to die?

The cunning alien chose neither. He had far too many tricks and trump cards to give up at that point.

He turned the roof of his car ethereal and caused the tornadoes touching it to disappear as well!

And because his tires were still firmly on the ground, he was able to maneuver the car deftly through the tornadoes and took the corner at near maximum entry speed!

“Damn it.” Elliot cursed vehemently when he saw that his skill had been neutralized by the alien’s powerful ethereal skill.

He smashed down on his accelerator to hit the maximum entry speed before braking heavily.

SCREEEEE!!

Elliot was faster in the corners, and he was able to reduce the red Civic’s lead to a mere car length.

However, once out into the wide open track, the red Civic immediately began to extend its lead.

“He must have turned many parts of the car ethereal to reduce his weight.” Elliot finally figured out why he’s losing to the red Civic in terms of acceleration and top speed.

“But if you’re lighter, that means you’re also more affected by wind. My earlier strategy was right. I just need to modify it slightly and be more sneaky about it.” Elliot thought. “The right thing at the wrong time is still wrong. I’ll wait till the final corner before making my move.”

VROOO!!

Both cars hurtled towards the second last corner at top speed and peacefully cleared it one after the other.

“Blade tornadoes.” Elliot said softly and two humongous blade tornadoes swirled into being on both sides of the track and thundered alongside the front of the red Civic.

The alien immediately turned his car ethereal in response. Having learnt his lesson, he was on the lookout for the tornadoes, and his instant reaction proved that he was an experienced veteran in dealing with emergencies.

However, Elliot wasn’t worried. The alien had to dispel the spell for a brief moment to straighten his wheels before he could go back into ethereal form. If he didn’t do that, he would keep going to the right and miss the corner entirely.

WHOOSH!

The wind that the tornadoes generated was so strong that Elliot’s Civic began to shake lightly as it was pulled by two equally powerful suction forces to the left and right.

“Soon. I’ll make my move soon.” Elliot whispered aloud as he narrowed his eyes in deep concentration. The red Civic was three car lengths ahead of him, and it was approaching the braking point of the final corner in excess of 400kph.

“He’ll probably turn corporeal once more as soon as his car faces more or less the right direction southwards. I’ll time my tornadoes right before that’¦ NOW!” Elliot shouted.

The red Civic flashed into reality at the same time the right tornado dissipated.

SCREE!

Elliot was able to oversteer slightly to the right to compensate for the powerful suction force to the left and managed to maintain his top speed.

However, the alien was caught totally by surprise. Being in front and closer to the tornadoes, and combined with the fact that his car was lighter, the disappearance of the right tornade had an instant effect on his car.

SCREE!

The suction force from the left tornado pulled at the nose of his car right before he turned his car back ethereal, causing him to veer off course and out of the track!

Elliot’s white Civic immediately shot past it and gained the lead!

“Yes!” Elliot exulted and tackled the final corner as fast as he could.

SCREE!!!

Behind him, the red Civic had turned corporeal once more and fought to get back into the track by throwing itself to the right!

“NOW!” Elliot shouted once more with glee as he dissipated the other tornado.

The sudden disappearance of the left suction force caused the red Civic to immediately oversteer to the right!

SCREE!!

It shot towards the stack of tires on the right side of the track.

Any normal driver would have definitely lost control of their car at that moment.

But through an inexplicable combination of sheer genius driving and clever applications of his ethereal spell, the alien was able to avoid sending his car crashing into the tires and soon righted itself.

Finally its grand plan of by-passing the final corner in ethereal form was executed and his red Civic re-entered the main track successfully.

However, because the red Civic was unable to accelerate while in ethereal form, it needed to turn corporeal immediately to accelerate.

VROO!!

Its powerful engines roared and sent the red Civic tearing down the track at ever increasing speeds.

The alien had torn away all reservations and had turned most of the car ethereal, leaving only the bare minimum to keep the car going.

The result was an incredible acceleration that rivaled even supercars.

By that time, Elliot had long cleared the corner and was blasting off at full speed towards the finish line.

He was five car lengths ahead, and only one short kilometer remained.

“BLADE TORNADO!” Elliot roared as he kept his foot pressed down on the accelerator!

A humongous tornado appeared in front of the red Civic, but he coolly turned a portion of it ethereal and ignored it.

The red Civic quickly ate up the distance between itself and Elliot’s white Civic!

Three car lengths, and six hundred meters remaining!

Two car lengths and slightly less four hundred meters remaining!

One car length and less than two hundred meters remaining!

“At this rate, I’ll lose! I need to do something to secure the win!” Elliot’s mind raced.
