Speed Is King

Chapter 105 - Mameluke

Elliot immediately shot down towards the wolf and grabbed him with his claws before the Belcher could reach him with its disgusting tongue.

“Frosty, finish off that flying Bangtol!” Elliot commanded as he gripped the dying Specter Wolf tightly. “Don’t let it rejoin its friends!”

“Acknowledged.” Frosty replied and sped after her target.

He brushed one of his claws against one of the Specter Wolf’s many sharp spikes on its back and felt his blood slowly mingle with it.

Instantly, a powerful mindspace descended upon them both. Although the Specter Wolf was dying, his mindspace was still extremely sturdy and powerful.

There was still fight left in him. A lot of it.

“Hmmm. An exceptionally powerful beast. I need to make him my Fire Apostle!” Elliot decided in his mind.

“Specter Wolf.” Elliot spoke up first. “Or rather, Dark Brainwyrm. I have a deal for you.”

“You’¦ You know about us? So that’s why the Wyrm released the Death Mark on you!” A tiny voice sounded in the mindspace as a strange power entered it and completely dominated the presence of the Specter Wolf.

The power of the mindspace transcended language barriers, and they were able to understand each other perfectly.

“You’re dead meat. Don’t bother offering me anything! Wyrms will never betray the Empire! You will die very soon, beast!” The Dark Brainwyrm spat venomously in the mindspace.

“I can heal you completely.” Elliot began.

“Ha! Wyrms are not afraid of death! Unlike you protoplasmic life forms, we embrace death! We are friends with death! We laugh in the face of danger because death is a welcome-“

“I will give you the final Corrupted Sedgedoom Belcher.” Elliot ignored the Dark Brainwyrm’s rambling and continued.

Apparently it worked, because the Dark Brainwyrm instantly kept quiet.

“We will kill the big one, of course, and I lay claim to every single loot in this battlefield, including its beast core.” Elliot paused slightly when he reached this point.

“Go on.” The Dark Brainwyrm said to indicate his interest.

“And I will grant you your freedom as soon as I bring the remaining human survivors out of this planet.” Elliot said. “I know you want something in this planet to make your Parasite Queen. By all means, take it. I don’t care about this planet. I just want the human race to survive.

And like you, I want to take revenge on the aliens. I aim to kill as many aliens as possible, and I will continue to do so even after I leave this planet. So at this point, our interests are partially aligned.”

“What do you want in exchange?” The Dark Brainwyrm asked.

“You.” Elliot simply replied. “I want all the information you own and your full obedience to my will. Sign a temporary slave contract with me, and I will give you all the things I mentioned before. If not’¦ I will drop you here and your life, your contributions to the Wyrm Empire would be over.”

“A SLAVE CONTRACT! PREPOSTEROUS!!!” The Dark Brainwyrm shouted angrily.

“A TEMPORARY slave contract.” Elliot emphasized.

“NEVER! A Wyrm has its pride! I will never serve as a slave!!” The Dark Brainwyrm roared. “I would rather die! Shame on you for even thinking that I will become your slave! Sha-“

“Alright, fine! Not a slave contract then! Sign a Mameluke contract with me!” Elliot pretended to be frustrated and offered it the slave contract again but under a different name.

(A/N: Mameluke is a military slave.)

“Mameluke? What is that?” The Dark Brainwyrm asked.

“A Mameluke is a respected ally.” Elliot began smoothly with a lie. “A comrade, a fellow fighter in pursuit of a noble and glorious goal.”

“Hmmm.” The Dark Brainwyrm immediately calmed down upon hearing it.

“However, a Mameluke is also a subordinate ally, of course.” Elliot continued. “Or else why would I bother giving you so many benefits without receiving any back from you, right?”

“A Mameluke exists only when an overwhelmingly large and near impossible goal exists. A goal which is worthy of complete dedication and even sacrifice to achieve.” Elliot continued his bullshit. The Dark Brainwrym ate it all up with gusto.

“Hmmmm.” It nodded again in agreement.

“And considering our current situation, even if a Mameluke is a respected ally, it would be subject to the strictest rules so as to maximize efficiency in achieving our shared goals and objectives.”

“Strictest rules? What do you mean?” The Dark Brainwyrm asked.

“Well, for one thing, a Mameluke has to prioritize my orders over its own desires. It won’t be called a subordinate if it’s free to do everything it wants to do right?” Elliot stated.

“True.” The Dark Brainwyrm agreed.

“And because of the gravity of the mission objectives, which is the destruction of the aliens, as well as the secrecy required, a Mameluke cannot act as and when it likes. It can only make a move if instructed.”

“Hmmm, that sounds’¦”

“I am a native of this planet. I know the best way to navigate this planet to look for the substance you’re looking for without arousing the suspicion of the aliens. Only by listening to me will you be able to find the substance at the fastest speed! You want to get that substance as soon as possible, don’t you?” Elliot quickly threw him a question which he had to answer in the positive.
