Soul for a Girlfriend?

Chapter 167 - Did She Just Ask Me Out!

I was walking towards my class from the cafeteria, as it was a very unfortunate day for me. All the stock of chocy milk had ended, and I had to walk back empty-handed. People say break up hurts, but they haven't experienced the loss of chocy milk.

With a heavy heart, I was walking as I came to a stop near the window and looked outside for a while. Gaisen has been getting quite a lot of proposals ever since the news of him breaking up with Kizhashi spread out.

In the past few weeks, a lot has changed around me.

As I was about to reach my class, I sensed someone's presence around me. And in an instant, I noticed a pale hand approaching my wrists in my peripheral vision and as I quickly retracted my hand and used my other arm to get it.

Out of my reflex, I pulled that person towards me and raised the elbow of my other arm to hit whoever it was, but before my elbow could connect them, I noticed that it was Naoto, who had her eyes on me with a stiff expression on her face.

"Oh Senpai?" I let go of her arm, as she rubbed her arm slowly and looked at me with a relieved expression and said, "I can see how you held your own against Vivian now."

"Oh... that's old news...just leave it." I sighed as she again mentioned something that I did almost one month ago.

Narrowing her eyes, she took a deep breath and lunged at me, "Also, are you crazy?" Shifting her eyes towards my elbow with which I was about to nail her face, she commented, "If that hit me, it would've broken my nose for sure."

I shook my head slightly as I said in a laid back tone, "You shouldn't approach people like that. Of course they would feel suspicious."

She clicked her tongue and mumbled under her breath, "You… and Vivian… weirdos…"

I raised my palm in my defence and retorted in an assuring tone, "Hey! Don't pile me with that dude!"

She was standing near the staircase as I could tell that she just came down from her floor. We stood staring at each other for a few seconds, as she broke the silence between us, "Well… are you busy right now?"

"Not really…" I replied with a nod, as her dark eyes glanced into mine for an instance before wandering off, and she asked, "You seem a bit stressed?"

Now I was a person whose face mostly had an apathetic expression, so it was relatively difficult to point out my emotions. But since Naoto had quite a sharp intuition, she could easily tell that just by looking into my eyes, for instance.

I looked at her for a few moments, contemplating whether or not I should tell her, but in the end I decided to go with the flow, "Ah… actually… the entire stock of chocy milk has finished!"

"Wha…?" With visible confusion on her face she tilted her head, as I went in my rant, "I know right!! Can't believe those guys… it's the start of the month for god's sake!"

"Etooo…. what?" She looked at me with an awkward smile, by which I could tell that she wasn't getting anything I was saying, so rather than wasting my time explaining to her, I asked, "Nevermind… you wanted to say something?"

"Ye… Yes. Well,l you see… Can you come with me for a bit?" She gestured towards me to follow her as she walked up the stairs.

"Huh?" I narrowed my eyes in confusion, but she turned around and gave a sharp look as she said in a bitter tone, "Oi… I told you to come with me."

Looking into her dark eyes, I quickly walked towards her with an awkward smile on my face, "Oh… chill… no need to stare at me like that."

After walking for a bit, as we're on the floor of the seniors now. My eyes were looking straight in front of me, but I couldn't help but glance at her smooth dark coloured hair which was flowing over her shoulder freely.

We came to an abrupt stop near the place where I and Yuna talked last day. Looking at me with her plain eyes, they seemed to be restless yet at peace as I asked, "Yeah… by the way… do you want…"

"So… You know why I called you here?" She leaned on the wall next to her as she crossed her arms and looked intently at me, expecting an answer, to which I replied in a hesitant tone, "Of course not. Unless you're trying to beat me for trying to elbow you a few moments ago."

"Are you retarded?" With utter annoyance on her face, she rubbed her temples, as I replied, "Maybe… I'm not sure."

"Shut up for a moment!" She said in a loud tone, as I chuckled a bit since I actually enjoyed annoying her sometimes.

She raised her index finger and pointed it towards me, as she asked, "You remember how you asked me out and I rejected you?"

"Why… are you rubbing salt on the wound?" I narrowed my eyes at her because it felt like she was sarcastically roasting me for some reason, but she hesitated for a moment and said, "I… didn't mean it that way… I've decided my answer."

"What? You'll give me a written rejection letter now?" In my usual cold tone, I replied, as she rolled her eyes and shot back at me with an irritated tone, "No! You Idiot!"

She looked at me for a bit and then averted her eyes. Tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, dark eyes finally met mine as she said nervously, "I have decided to give it a try…"

"What?"

She let out a sigh of irritation and kept staring at me for a while as silence crept upon us. Without saying a word, she walked off. She turned back and looked at me for a final time as her lips moved, "Just tell your friends that you got a girlfriend now."

"If you have friends, that is!" she said in a loud voice so that I could hear it and walked off chuckling to herself.

Did she just ask me out!?
