Retired Villainess Transmigrates into a Cannon Fodder

Chapter 53

Even after waking up from his dream, Xiao Han still felt as if he could hear Chu Xiang’s gentle voice in his ears, perhaps due to the number of video calls that had with her recently. Speaking of video calls, however, all of those reminded him of the Chu Xiang in his dreams. The screen before him served as an obstacle between him and Chu Xiang. Though he was able to see her, he was nevertheless unable to reach his hands out to her directly.

Thinking back to that last night, when they had finally closed the distance between each other, only to be interrupted and cut short by a mere phone call. So close, yet so far. His longing sparked a desire in his heart. With the seed already planted, its growth surged as his desire grew uncontrollably into that of a great tree.

‘Ugh! I really want to be with Chu Xiang!’

When Chu Xiang received word about the meeting with Xiao Han, she was surprised and quickly asked whether something had gone wrong with their project. However, Xiao Han’s secretary just  told her that they just needed to discuss a few details together and formulate the final plan for the bidding documents.

Although Chu Xiang wanted to contact Xiao Han for further inquiries, her university had suddenly organized a summer internship that was mandatory for all students to participate in. Thus, she simply put that matter aside. After all, everything would come to a clear after their next meeting with each other. As such, there was no need for her to ask him any question for the moment.

When Chu Xiang and Xiao Han finally brought their teams together, Xiao Han finally had an excuse to meet Chu Xiang in person. Upon their meeting, he immediately took the initiative.

“Has Miss Chu been busy recently?” he asked.

Chu Xiang nodded. “Yes, I have been bombarded with many different tasks lately. Fortunately for me, I will be taking my university finals very soon. After that, I won’t need to attend classes anymore. Since the struggle for the bidding will soon commence, I will definitely put in my utmost effort into this specific project. Oh, right! Have there been any issues with the bidding documents?”

Asking for her to sit next to him, Xiao Han raised his hands to signal his subordinates to prepare. “Since we regard this project highly, we have picked out some minor issues in the rough draft of the bidding documents and strove to create an even more perfect one. While it may not be a big deal, pay close attention to it.”

Upon his command, Xiao Han’s team began asserting their opinions one by one as Chu Xiang paid close attention to their suggestions. After listening for a while, however, she felt that something was amiss. Since these were all just minor issues, wouldn’t sending out representatives from both companies to talk about such small matters be more than enough? Why did they need to have a meeting?”

Chu Xiang then turned her eyes toward Xiao Han in question. Realizing her deep gaze, Xiao Han whispered, “Miss Chu, is there something wrong? Why don’t we go to the teahouse next door?”

“Sure.”

With that, Xiao Han stood up. “I’ll leave the rest of you to discuss among yourselves and flesh out the rest of the details. The meeting will end in an hour.”

Although Xiao Han and Chu Xiang had already left, Xiao Han’s subordinates still worked extremely hard and continued discussing the details for the bidding documents with the employees from Dongfang. With their potential bonuses in mind, this trip will surely be worth it if they continue contributing their ideas.

As soon as Chu Xiang entered the private room in the teahouse, she brushed her hair aside and relaxed herself on the sofa. She then looked at Xian Han sitting on the opposite end. “I’m exhausted. Is President Xiao deliberately trying to add more work to my schedule? I could have been working on other things at this time.”

Taking off his suit jacket, Xiao Han rolled up the cuffs of his sleeves and began making tea. “Since you’re always busy these days, it’s been rather difficult to invite you out again.”

“Isn’t President Xiao usually a workaholic?” she teased him with a smile. “ You mustered such a large force and troubled so many people… all just for a date? President Xiao, aren’t you being too irresponsible with your duties?”

“I know what I’m doing,” Xian Han replied as he handed the freshly brewed tea to Chu Xiang.

Instead of receiving the cup of tea with her hands, Chu Xiang glanced at the tea and quickly swept her gaze towards Xiao Han. The corner of Xiao Han’s lips raised slightly into a smirk before he sat down and let her drink from the cup that was still in his hand.

She smiled after taking a sip, looking up at him. “President Xiao’s brewed tea is better than everyone else’s. Perhaps President Xiao’s red wine will be just as good.”

Xiao Han glanced at his watch casually. “There’s still time to make reservations at the restaurant. I wonder if Miss Chu will have the time to join me for dinner? After that, we can continue where we left off with that bottle of red wine last time.”

Just as Chu Xiang was about to speak, the notification sound of her phone piped up. Checking her message, she saw that it was from Chu Dongqi — her father. The message from him told her that she should go back home for dinner since he would personally cook a hearty meal for their family to enjoy.

Since she looked at the message next to him, Xiao Han naturally saw the text too; thus, the slight smile on his face had disappeared.
