Chapter 461: Her Reply

It was as if the very air in the conference itself had been frozen. Everyone held their breaths as they stared at the two. 

Fleeting Time maintained his usual carefree appearance, but deep down, he was nervous. The emcee who was standing beside him could even see him trembling slightly. Did we set the temperature too low today? He looked around the room. Wait… This guy… He’s actually nervous!

Compared to Fleeting Time, the female lead of this story was even more relaxed. She leaned against the back of a chair and narrowed her eyes at him. There was not a hint of emotion on her face. 

But not showing emotion at a time like this seemed to be something really bad. 

He’s asking for your hand in marriage damn it! Shouldn’t you show some emotion? A little bit of joy would do! Come on, Gongzi You! 

The attendees trained their phones on the couple. They wanted to record this historical moment. The emcee, on the other hand, was crying internally. Damn it! I’m in the best spot right now, but I don’t have my phone with me! He inched towards the closest player and whispered, “Hey, can you do me a favor?” 

“What?” came the response. 

“Send it to me when this is over.” the emcee lowered his voice.

“I gotchu fam.” the player replied with an even lower voice. 

Despite his desire to move closer, the emcee was a professional. He knew that he shouldn’t get in the way of the live cameras. 

The air remained eerily silent. It was as if time itself had stopped. Mo Leng could feel tears welling in her eyes as she stared at the screen. No matter how hard she tried, her love for Fleeting Time remained unanswered. The spectacle today was the only repayment she received from the man. Her hopes were completely crushed at that moment. 

A smile appeared on Wang Jiangnan’s lips as he stared at the screen. We’re not the same. Perhaps only someone like Fleeting Time, who will do anything for her, can light up her life. A man like him, who was willing to set himself on fire no matter the outcome, was the one suitable for her. He’s probably the only one who can push her to the greatest of heights. 

He let out a sigh. His heart was filled with sadness, but even then, he still gave them his blessing. Perhaps things will be different if I’m just that slightly bolder. 

Ahh… I guess there’s no point crying over spilt milk. 

Thank you, Gongzi You. Wang Jiangnan smiled. You might not know what you’ve done for me, but I am who I am today because of you. You might not know but… Your presence has brought warmth to a person’s heart.

Just then, Ye Ci’s eyebrow twitched. It was not obvious, but Fleeting Time could see it. Anxiety immediately gripped his heart. He was not used to this feeling. He had been through a lot in his life, but this was the first time he felt something like this. There was even once when he thought he could never feel fear. But he was proven wrong. 

But things in the world would never cease to exist just because they were disliked. 

“I’m sorry, Fleeting Time, but I don’t think I want to be the winner forever.” she smirked at him. 

Her voice was soft, but to the players around them, it sounded like an atomic bomb going off. 

Fleeting Time’s proposal was something unexpected, but having his proposal shot down by Gongzi You was an even more surprising news. Everyone was dumbstruck by her response. 

No way!

He got rejected? 

Is this for real? 

But the rejection didn’t seem to affect the two main characters of this love story. 

Fleeting Time blinked, and blinked again, “Hey, Little Gongzi, can you at least tell me why?” 

“Why?” Ye Ci smiled at him, “Because I don’t want to win.” 

“Well, what if you are the loser?” Fleeting Time blinked yet again. 

“Nope, I don’t want to lose either.” 

For reasons unknown to even himself, Fleeting Time found himself relaxing, “Very well then. Why don’t you give me a proposal that you can accept.” 

Ye Ci glanced at the cameras around her before looking back at Fleeting Time, “So why here? Why in a weird place like this?” 

A… Weird place like this? Many among the crowd could feel the corners of their lips twitching. 

But Fleeting Time remained unaffected, “Well, it’s do or die. Think of it as me not giving myself a chance to back out from this.” 

“Oh?” Ye Ci raised an eyebrow. 

“You’re cutting off my path of escape as well.” 

“Of course. If I’m going down, you’re going down with me.” 

“You’re a cruel man.” 

“I’ve never claimed to be a kind one.” 

The onlookers were confused by their interaction.

 Hey, isn’t this supposed to be a scene of a marriage proposal? Why are they talking like it’s nothing out of the ordinary? What’s with this weird topic? 

“What are you two doing?” shouted an attendee. 

“You call yourself a man, Fleeting Time?” 

“Just say yes, Gongzi You! You might not find a better man than him!” a female attendee shouted. 

“That’s right! If you don’t want him, we’ll claim him for ourselves!” 

Many more around them joined in as well. 

But the two main characters of this story didn’t seem to budge. 

And like the many cameras around them, Fleeting Time’s gaze was glued towards Ye Ci. 

“Was that a proposal just now?” 

“Yup.” Fleeting Time shrugged, “You see, you and I are both around the age to get married now. Shouldn’t we start working towards.. Buying a house?” 

“Heh, you’re afraid that you’ll die a lonely man?” 

“Well, can’t blame me for thinking of a happy life.” Fleeting Time leaned forward, “Ye Ci, what do you think?” 

Ye Ci raised an eyebrow at him. 

“Say yes!” The crowd was cheering. 

“Nope.” said Ye Ci.

And she received jeering from the crowd. 

“Then think of a response. I must have an answer” Fleeting Time smiled. 

“Alright.” Ye Ci nodded. She was deep in thought, as if she was really pondering an answer. 

“Here’s what I’m thinking.” Ye Ci stood up straight and closed the distance between them. 

Fleeting Time stood still as she approached. I guess this is it. 

Ye Ci lifted her hands and cupped his face between them before pulling him forward. She stood on her toes and crashed her lips onto his, “Fleeting Time, will you marry me?” 

“Yes.”
