Chapter 189 The Financial Report

Chapter 189 The Financial Report

”Xinyan, here is a copy of the monthly reports from all the departments.”

He Xinyan looked up and smiled, “You can put them here. I will look over them.”

”Okay.” Wu Minger walked out and He Xinyan picked up the file on top. It was from the marketing department.

Everything looked good and she was on the last file. It was almost time for lunch, and she quickly picked it up to skim through it.

The final report was from the financial department and there were several graphs and charts inside.

He Xinyan quickly skimmed through the information and was about to close it and go to lunch when she noticed something.

She read through it several times to make sure she didn’t read it wrong.

He Xinyan stared at the numbers on the chart for several seconds and flipped to the beginning of the report to read it over again.

She pulled out her phone to do some calculations, and did it three times to make sure there wasn’t a mistake.

He Xinyan couldn’t be sure because even though she had a basic understanding of how the business and company worked by now, she still wanted to make sure.

She took a picture of the chart and sent it over to Gu Yechen.

’Mr. Husband, I need your help. Can you look over this chart? I think there is something wrong with the numbers but I’m not sure.’

A second later, there was a reply.

’Okay, but what do I get in return?’

He Xinyan scrunched her face up when she read the response.

’Hmph! I need to pay for my boyfriend’s help?’

’Yes, however you don’t need to pay for your husband’s help.’

He Xinyan rolled her eyes with a smile on her face, ‘I called you Mr. Husband in the beginning already!’

Gu Yechen leaned back against his chair with a smile, ‘How about dinner together? I think that is a fair deal.’

He Xinyan knew that Gu Yechen was joking, because she ate dinner with him every day!

’Hm. . . fine. I guess that is a decent trade,’ He Xinyan said jokingly.

About two minutes passed before Gu Yechen replied again.

’My baby is very smart, there is a problem. The numbers in the chart show that the company is losing money, however the final amount says the company is still earning. That can’t be possible.’

He Xinyan furrowed her eyebrows together and called Gu Yechen.

The other end immediately picked up.

”Baby, what is it? It’s lunch time, why aren’t you eating?”

”I’ll eat later. Wait, so what is happening?

”Well, there are a lot of possibilities. Maybe it is just a mistake. The manager of the financial department might have just made a typo.”

He Xinyan nodded her head. She thought that was the most likely.

”However, there can also be other possibilities. You should check the financial statements from other months too to see if it has always been like this. Maybe the He Corporation is faking their financial reports. They might be losing money and they need to fake their reports so the annual report won’t show that they are losing money. However, it is weird that there is a mistake then, because if this mistake stays, the analysts will be able to figure out that something is wrong.”

He Xinyan pressed her lips together, “So, you’re saying it is either just a one-time typo or the He Corporation is actually losing money but trying to hide it?”

”Yes. . . Well, there is another possibility, but it isn’t very likely.”

”What is it?”

”Embezzlement of money may also cause mistakes in the financial report. If someone is embezzling money from the company for personal use, and they are trying to hide it, that may result in a mistake in the final report. However, if this is true, it would probably be someone from the financial department that has access to the report every month.”

He Xinyan scratched her head and nodded, “Okay, thank you! I will look into it.”

”Baby, do you want to eat lunch together?”

He Xinyan thought for a few seconds, “Maybe next time. I have things to do now.”

”Make sure you don’t skip lunch!” Gu Yechen could already guess that He Xinyan was going to look into the financial report now, but he didn’t want her to be hungry.

”Don’t worry, don’t worry. I won’t starve myself. Thank you, mwah! Goodbye!” He Xinyan blew him a kiss before hanging up the call.

Wu Minger was probably eating lunch at this time, so He Xinyan went to the company cafeteria to find her. Right away, she saw Wu Minger sitting amongst some other people, talking.

As she walked over, several people stood up and greeted her politely.

”Hello, CEO He.”

”Hello, CEO He.”

He Xinyan smiled as she sat down next to Wu Minger, who blinked a few times when she saw her.

”Yan – CEO He, what are you doing here?”

He Xinyan smiled, “I have something to ask you, but it’s okay, take your time.”

Wu Minger looked at her food and then looked at He Xinyan. She slowly began eating again, but she couldn’t help but notice how He Xinyan kept on staring at her as she ate.

Finally, she packed up her lunchbox and looked up.

”Hahaha, it’s okay. I am finished. What do you need to ask me?”

He Xinyan nodded, “Let’s go to my office.”

”Goodbye, Assistant Wu. Goodbye, CEO He,” the people sitting next to Wu Minger said. They also couldn’t eat comfortably with the CEO sitting right next to them, so they were glad she was leaving.

Back inside He Xinyan’s office, Wu Minger opened her lunchbox again and began eating.

”What is it?”

”Do you know anyone from the financial department?” He Xinyan knew that Wu Minger had made a lot of “friends” in the company since she was the CEO’s assistant, and although He Xinyan was a little sour about it, her “friends” should come to good use now.

Wu Minger thought for a few seconds, “Yes! I know a few!”

”Is there anyone who you think is trustworthy? You’re most close to?”

Wu Minger frowned, “There is one. He is a young boy that just graduated from college. He’s pretty cute and nice.”

He Xinyan raised one eyebrow, “Are you sure it is not just because he is cute?”

Wu Minger blushed a little from being exposed, “No! Of course not! He is really nice!”

”Okay, after lunch, call him here.”

”Why?” Wu Minger asked curiously.

”You know the reports you gave me this morning. I was reading through the financial report, and I realized there was a problem.”

”What problem?”

He Xinyan grinned, “Don’t worry about it. I also need you to find the monthly financial reports from previous months. Can you do that?”

Wu Minger nodded her head and gobbled up the rest of the food before standing up, “Yes, sir! I will go do it now!”

About an hour later, He Xinyan had a box of past financial reports on her desk, and there was also a young and cute guy standing in front of her.

The guy looked like he was in his early 20s, and he had large eyes and a slightly chubby face.

”Hello,” He Xinyan said with a sweet smile.

The man’s face was slightly red, maybe because he was nervous about being in the CEO’s office, “Hello, President He.”

”You don’t have to be nervous. I’m just here to ask you some questions.”

”Yes, President He.”

He Xinyan stood up and walked over to the couch, “Come sit down.”

The man gulped before sitting down a few feet away from He Xinyan, at the edge of the couch.

”What’s your name? How old are you? How long have you been in the He Corporation?”

”My name is Lin Xi. I am 24 years old, and I have been in the He Corporation for about one year.”

He Xinyan nodded her head. He was probably trustworthy. . . hopefully.

”Here is the monthly report the manager of your department gave me. Look at this chart. Do you see any mistakes?”

Lin Xi took about a minute to read through the chart, and he scratched his head.

”I usually don’t get to look over the final financial report, but I do work on organizing the numbers for the report. I don’t think this number is correct.”

He Xinyan raised one eyebrow, “What number?”

”This last number. I remember clearly that it was pretty low. It was losing money.”

”You’re sure?”

The man gulped and was a little hesitant, “I think so.”

He Xinyan frowned, “Go get your computer.”

A few minutes later, it was clear that the mistake wasn’t a typo. If Lin Xi was indeed the one who put together the final statistics, it couldn’t possibly be a typo unless the manager purposely changed the numbers.

”Does no one look at this? It is clear from these numbers that the company is losing money, but the final numbers show that it is earning.”

Lin Xi scratched his head, “I don’t think it was like this previous months. There must be a mistake this month.”

”So, you’re saying that these mistakes are on purpose? Is the company actually losing money?”

Lin Xi pressed his lips together and glanced at He Xinyan.

”Don’t worry. Just tell me everything,” He Xinyan said when she noticed the hesitation in Lin Xi’s eyes.

”Well. . .”
