Primordial Dimensions

Chapter 340 - Investigation

Shane and Ilya weren't sure how much time had passed, but Yan's storytelling was slow and the story itself was long-winded.

However, they still tried to listen intently.

Their task had to be solved, with the best possible result after all.

By the time Yan ended with his story, it was already dark outside, and it didn't take long before he told a servant to take them to an Inn.

Less than half an hour later, they had gotten a room for each of them, and both Shane and Ilya sat opposite each other in his room to discuss their strategy before Ilya would depart to her room.

Their rooms were nothing special, but neither were they shabby.

Even if that would have been the case, there was nothing to complain about.

Right now, they had a mission to solve and had not arrived to live in luxury.. That was useless grandeur!

"It looks like the 'savior' is in fact a devil in disguise. Even if it's just a dungeon task, I have no idea why a devil would bother to demonize or implant a part of a devil's soul into the newborns of a basic race! That looks suspicious to me!"

Ilya had started to analyze the story Yan had told, but Shane only shook his head.

"It might be important to figure out why the devil came to the Myn Kingdom or the reason for it to intervene in the worldly beings of a weak basic race. However, more important is the fact that the devil's actions have caused great harm to the Karn kingdom.

Whether the devil did this intentionally or not is not the main point we have to focus on. Our focus should be on how to prevent more devil rituals. It's the long-term protection we have to give back to the demon beasts and Lesser demons!"

To achieve this, they would have to survive first, but that was a given!

Ilya was deep in thoughts because of Shane's words and responded,

"The devilization ritual is only used in this city, at least that was how I interpreted Yan's words. The ritual cannot be conducted just about anywhere and the demons have to be nearby. Wasn't it because of their energy? Either way, the ritual is only held here, which is the main point and probably the reason why the dungeon has sent us here.

We might have failed the first crucial test, which was to evaluate whether the demons are our opponents or the ones we have to protect. Nevertheless, the past is nothing but that! Let bygones be bygones!

That means we will have to pay attention to the altar and Yan. While the altar should have been a present from the devil, Yan seems to be the only bishop of the entire Myn kingdom. Doesn't that mean he should be one of the only Ara, capable of completing the ritual?

It shouldn't have looked special, but my sensitive mana fluctuations sensed something devilish radiating from Yan during the entire baptism."

Both Ilya and Shane continued to talk for more than an hour before they decided to rest for a few hours.

Resting every single day might not have been important for them anymore, but they knew that it was unsure when they would get the time to rest again.

The next morning, Shane woke up, and he immediately sent a message to Ilya, who was in the room next to his.

After doing the morning workout, he freshened up afterward.

There were still [29 Days] left for the completion of their dungeon task, and the amount of information they had gathered was more than enough.

Despite that, they were not confident in achieving anything great.

After Shane was done with everything he had put on a clean set of clothes before he stepped outside to investigate the entire city.

Walking through it for several hours, the first thing he noticed was the greed in the Aras' eyes.

They were clearly addicted to the demon blood!

Whether it was because of the demon blood's unique characteristics or owing to the demonic being that should have been sealed and nurtured by the pitch-black runes was unknown.

Nevertheless, the addiction was evident, and Shane reported his finds immediately to Ilya, who had also woken up from her sleep.

The day before, they had decided to split up and investigate everything thoroughly.

While Ilya was supposed to investigate the city's central area and defensive measures, such as runes, the Ara race had been implemented to protect the cathedral.

From the beginning, they knew that there was a thick barrier around the cathedral preventing long-range attacks from damaging it.

However, what Ilya had noticed was that one could easily step through it because there was no restriction.

This was great, and Ilya had entered the cathedral, saying that she was curious about the religion which the Ara race pursued.

Feeling proud of themselves, the Ara race didn't even care that Princess Ilya was a stranger, who had entered the city just half a day earlier.

Despite that, she and the other being had saved them, thus, there was not much to hide from Ilya.

If they had known that the newcomers were planning something grand that might change the entire life of the Ara race, they wouldn't have behaved like this.

However, oblivious to Ilya's true motives, they simply explained their entire background story, which included the appearance of the savior.

Their perspective was a different one, and it was more interesting to listen to the Ara priest's story as it sounded more realistic than Yan's.

This explained lots of things to Ilya, and from the information she acquired, only Yan had the necessary means to initiate and complete the entire process.

With that being said, Ilya had finished her investigation while Shane had visited multiple shops to talk with the shop owners as a customer.

Due to this, Shane had been able to figure out lots of information too.

While Ilya's main focus was on the cathedral and religion of the Ara race, Shane had his entire focus on the city itself.

Through hidden meanings, he was able to comprehend the rough number of guardians inside the city, their combat prowess, and combat experience.

The latter was something the Ara race didn't have much, but the number of guards was grand in comparison to the population of the city.

Furthermore, the more battles one fought, the more rewards one received. In return, this strengthened the Ara who fought multiple battles every single time they emerged victoriously.

Despite being addictive, Shane understood that the demon blood allowed the Ara race to nurture the devil inside them!

This was interesting to know, but most likely also the reason why the Ara race turned a blind eye to their addiction. If they were able to become stronger by killing an entire race or annihilating a kingdom, the Ara race didn't seem to be as merciful as they tried to appear.

By questioning others on how they found the Karn kingdom and what they would do with the demon beasts and lesser demons, the Ara race's true colors had been revealed!

After Shane had understood the dungeon task correctly, it had become more apparent that the Ara race was not gentle and kind but scheming, greedy, self-centered and everything but merciful!

In the evening, he and Princess Ilya met inside the Inn once again.

They had to create a proper plan to take care of the issues inside the city before it was possible for them to leave and search for the Karn kingdom!

Who knew what kind of issues Shane and Ilya would have to face during the next 29 days?
