Nine Star Burden

Chapter 98 - Our Friends!

Chapter 98: Our Friends!

Unfortunately, when Jiang Xiao walked out of the cave with Second Last, the wind started blowing again in the snowfield.

The gust of wind blew the snow up into the sky, hindering Jiang Xiao from advancing.

Fortunately, Jiang Xiao had already put on the mercenary uniform and a black hood.

“Since we have teamed up temporarily, I should get familiar with your Star Techniques,” said Jiang Xiao.

“Yours,” Second Last said calmly while glancing at Jiang Xiao who was struggling to move. She then reached a hand out to pull him up the slope.

Jiang Xiao stepped on the stones and said loudly while the wind whistled, “You know mine. Six Star Techniques in three star slots, namely, Green Glow, Endurance, Blessing, Decoy, Bell, and Imprint.”

Second Last didn’t say anything and simply continued treading on the thick snow.

Jiang Xiao was dumbfounded.

Have I been duped?

Did I dupe myself?

Are you scared?

Jiang Xiao said, “You…”

“Shh.” Second Last lowered her body and moved forward rapidly.

Jiang Xiao followed her swiftly.

“Bang!”

They heard the sounds of a gunshot almost at the same time.

The gunshot seemed to be a signal, which was followed by several other gunshots. Although the sounds of the wind whistling were rather loud, they could not overpower the deafening sounds of the gunshot.

After advancing forward for tens of seconds, Jiang Xiao began to hear a vague roar.

Jiang Xiao hid behind Second Last and carefully looked in front.

“Hey?” Jiang Xiao asked gently, after which Second Last picked him up by the collar and pinned him down beside her.

Jiang Xiao thought, Please treat me like a human…

“Look carefully.” Second Last pressed a hand on Jiang Xiao’s head and tried to adjust the angle of his head. The two of them laid quietly on the snow and glanced at the messy battlefield.

There were plenty of Chinese soldiers dressed in camouflage uniforms and not just the Guardians Of The Night and the mercenary corps.

Jiang Xiao also saw a mercenary hiding behind a mud wall and peeking through the holes made in the wall.

1, 2, 3… 8 enemies. There should be 2 teams.

“The two mercenaries who are using the mud wall Star Technique at the back are our primary targets,” said Second Last.

Jiang Xiao carefully observed the formation. There were three people standing in a triangular formation at the back of the corps, two of whom were glowing because of Star Power. They were continuously building mud walls and sectioning the battlefield.

The mercenary corps behind Jiang Xiao and Second Last were fully-equipped. However, they did not attack because they seemed to be aware of what their responsibilities were.

The mud wall rose rapidly under their Star Techniques, and the two of them seemed to have created a maze that was blocking out the bullets of the Chinese soldiers while surrounding the Guardians Of The Night.

The other three mercenaries were in the front of the maze, hiding behind the mud wall and peeking through the holes produced by their comrades. They then used their Star Techniques to rip apart the guards from China.

There were two other mercenaries fighting each other and two Guardians Of The Night in front of them.

It was an unfair battle, and the mercenaries were not actually fighting each other alone because there would often be muddy hands and spikes surging out of the walls to disturb them. In fact, they would even kill the Guardians of The Night.

“Give your orders,” Jiang Xiao said frantically. He then saw two Chinese soldiers getting pierced in their bodies by mud snakes. Jiang Xiao was abnormally infuriated by this cruel scene.

“I’m not sure what kind of Awakened the guy who’s guarding the two Rules mercenaries are, but usually, he may be the strongest one in the team.” Second Last was not worried at all, and she seemed to be trying to give Jiang Xiao a lesson.

“What do you want me to do?” Jiang Xiao asked hurriedly.

“I’m going to tear that triangle up. Watch me. When I take action, I’ll need you to give me a Blessing.” Second Last started to stand up slowly.

Jiang Xiao asked in a panic, “Give a Blessing to the mercenaries at the back?”

“Very good,” Second Last said calmly, seemingly pleased with Jiang Xiao’s comprehensive abilities.

She stood up and strode forwards, seemingly trying to attract the attention of the enemies on purpose. She slowed down and seemed to be staggering and swaying unsteadily under the wind as if she were injured.

Jiang Xiao laid on the snow slope and slowly looked down.

He saw that Second Last’s pace was getting messy, after which her body tilted and she fell down, continuously rolling down the slope. She only stopped rolling when she hit the bottom, where she laid motionlessly with her body facing up.

“% ¥ # @ #!” exclaimed a coarse voice belonging to a man speaking in Russian, which Jiang Xiao could not understand. At the next moment, a mud snake emerged from below Second Last’s feet, tugging her towards the center of the maze.

She wouldn’t leave even after a beating or a scolding.

However, she was dragged away just like that…

Da! Da! Da!

The bullets scattered all over the place and landed on the spot beside Second Last.

Jiang Xiao was frightened, and he even forgot that there was such a risk.

Oh, dear. Second Last seemed to have been shot in the shoulder!?!

She got shot!?!

What made Jiang Xiao’s heart skip was the fact that Second Last was no longer yelling and seemed to have really fainted.

How ruthless!

She’s cruel to both her enemies and herself.

Jiang Xiao had no idea how he should describe Second Last. At this moment, he felt nothing but respect for her.

Amidst the bullets, the mud snakes began dragging her away even more quickly, until they dragged her behind the wall.

Jiang Xiao knew that Second Last couldn’t speak. The fact that she could find a mercenary uniform that fit her well meant that there was someone of the same size as her amongst the mercenary corps.

However, he reckoned that there were no women of this size in the mercenaries.

The mud wall was like a beast that was opening its big mouth and swallowing Second Last before finally dragging her into a safe area.

What gave Jiang Xiao a great shock was that one of the Guardians Of The Night actually braved through the gunfire and fought the enemies’ mud snakes to dash into the maze with Second Last.

Whoosh!

The mud snakes sped up continuously while dragging Second Last along.

At this very moment, Second Last was laying flat with her right leg arched, after which she stomped her foot onto the ground.

A rumbling sound filled the air…

The flares shot up to the sky and the explosions engulfed Second Last, blasting away the mud snakes on her left ankle as well as the mud walls beside her.

At the next moment, a large figure dashed out.

Like a ghost floating in the dark night, the nimble, huge figure immediately tackled the two Rules mercenary corps.

Yes, she was close enough.

Besides, she could no longer pretend. After all, the Guardians Of The Night would probably kill her.

Second Last climbed up the wall and leaped over the ditch before ripping up the enemies from inside. In the blink of an eye, she arrived in front of the triangle that was behind.

The two Rules mercenaries got a great shock and were yelling loudly while maniacally using their Star Techniques, almost blinding Jiang Xiao.

A ray of light shrouded the mercenary at the back when he took action.

—Silver Quality Star Technique, Blessing!

Second Last’s ghostly figure wandered under the night sky and she suddenly curled her legs up before tiptoeing across the mud snakes. Her large body shuttled back and forth before hitting them in their fatal spots.

Her hands were claw-shaped, and a silver star slot began to glow faintly.

The lethal effects of being in close contact with a Rules Melee fighter were formidable.

Jiang Xiao saw Second Last flashing past the two mercenaries, after which their skulls flew up immediately while the two mercenaries’ headless bodies fell straight onto the snow.

Leapfrogging, Skill Point +5.

Leapfrogging, Skill Point +5.

Jiang Xiao was bewildered…

However, Second Last’s attacks did not end. She hovered in mid-air and laid on her back before throwing some kicks against the faces and chests of the mercenary who was shrouded in the light of Blessing.

She used the mercenary as a “skateboard” and surged forward while stepping on his body.

She set her left foot steadily on the mercenary’s chest before raising her right foot and stomping it onto the mercenary’s face. The stardust on his body flickered and the explosions beneath her feet continuously attacked them!

The skateboard exploded and burst into flames.

“Wow!” Jiang Xiao’s eyes widened in shock and murmured, “This is our friend… Little Nezha?”
