Chapter 2042 – Tomb Doors

Chapter 2042 – Tomb Doors

The other four sacred supremes remained seated in their positions, unmoving and devoid of any expression.

……

Uncontrollable jitters gripped the crowd after Lu Yun needed only a single blow to destroy the Northern Sacred Supreme’s projection. Su Muzhou and Suiyue Jinghao fled in disarray, deeply afraid that Yun Tian would come for their heads next. They answered to the Cardinal Sacred Palace banner.

The young man had already declared war on the sacred palace. Any of its members that lingered did so with a death wish. Even representatives from the other four sacred palaces shook with apprehension—particularly those of the Northern Sacred Palace. Yun Tian shattering their leader’s projection meant a death feud between their sacred palace and the young man.

The key thing was that the Dragonquake Scripture safeguarded Yun Tian. He was invincible in the absence of a sacred supreme physically present at the tomb. No one dared to throw down the gauntlet.

Peace returned to the scene after the Northern Sacred Supreme’s projection dispersed.

“As I thought, it’s still not enough…” Lu Yun sighed softly. The sacred supreme that he’d just killed was a powerful feng shui master. But if it wasn’t for the Dragonspike Litany being too overwhelming, he wouldn’t have been a match for the elder.

He would’ve lost the match in any other location. Since sacred supremes didn’t dare visit Ancestor’s tomb, all of their weaknesses were fully exposed to Lu Yun here. That was why he’d succeeded with one blow.

The same went for the Northern Sacred Supreme’s projection.

No sacred supreme would be able to shift the layouts at the tomb so long as they weren’t here in person. Neither were they able to harm Lu Yun.

By now, the young man held no reservations and didn’t dither. He simultaneously deployed the Dragonsearch Invocation and Dragonshift Method to determine where the thief’s tunnel should be dug. Directing the dragons as his shovel, he excavated a deep passage that led underground.

His actions surprised the assembly. It wasn’t that they hadn’t thought of digging a tunnel into the tomb, but that only failures marked the board after people gave it a try.

Those that burrowed a tunnel into the ground died very grisly deaths. Seeing that, some employed earthen arts to transport themselves underground, but they met equally gruesome ends.

“Wait, the tunnels they dug before were in the wrong spots!” someone called out. “Legend has it that the Three Thousand’s Dragonquake Scripture contains a secret art called the Dragonsearch Invocation. It can pinpoint direction, determine location, and gauge feng shui. This Yun Tian must be using it to identify the proper way to approach Ancestor’s tomb!”

He was an empyrean supreme—the one that the Disordered Empyrean Supreme said came from the chief worlds.

The Daofire Empyrean Supreme.

But since he’d been assimilated by the great daos of this world, his combat arts and dao methods had stagnated. They remained at the same level they’d been when he arrived as a peak grand supreme. He’d come to Ancestor’s tomb to search for ways to improve.

Since he’d become an empyrean supreme in this world, his own great dao had been sampled by the heaven and earth of the Three Thousand. That created another possibility for him—break through to sacred supreme.

However, the Daofire Empyrean Supreme was an ambitious person. He didn’t want to become a sacred supreme while stuck in the stage of ethos. He wanted to proliferate his dao into all of creation and ascend at the peak of creation. That would make him the strongest heavyweight within this world.

After seeing how formidable the Dragonquake Scripture was, further thoughts flourished in his heart. If he could practice this method as well…

Greed flashed through his eyes.

When it came to the Dragonquake Scripture, he didn’t share the same reservations held by the others. Although he was from the chief worlds, his great dao was part of this world now. Other than his heart and mind, everything about him was a denizen of the Three Thousand.

While the world’s inhabitants also couldn’t practice the method whenever they wished, the most that would happen was a failure to master the method. There would be no corresponding visitation of misfortune or disaster.

Thus, the Daofire Empyrean Supreme was confident in his chances and course of action. Having formed the intent, he shoved the impulse deep within his heart so he wouldn’t expose himself.

Lu Yun wasn’t the slightest bit interested in the empyrean supreme from the chief worlds and thus paid him no heed. The earth was trembling.

What was incomparably formidable terrain had a tunnel carved into it within a few breaths. It led straight to the tomb.

“Hmm?” Lu Yun paused. His dragons from the Dragonshift Method had split apart into pure energy. It seemed that they’d encountered something extremely hard. He opened the Spectral Eye and peered into the whole, seeing two bronze doors at the end of the tunnel.

Two bronze doors!

Bronze!

Lu Yun went briefly slack-jawed. “Ling Qu, let’s go!”

The Disordered Empyrean Supreme remained looking around.

Lu Yun resisted an eye roll and called again, “Ling Qu!”

She continued to be unresponsive.

“Ling Qu!” This time, Lu Yun’s voice echoed in her mind.

“Oh! Right, I’m Ling Qu.” The empyrean supreme finally reacted and followed Lu Yun down.

The Daofire Empyrean Supreme followed them after one hundred breaths. He would have everything he wanted, whether it was knowledge and treasure in the tomb or Yun Tian’s Dragonquake Scripture!

The rest of the crowd streamed in when no abnormal noises or developments came from below.

……

The bronze doors were shut, blocking the way. Lu Yun stared off into the air in front of them. He somehow found them familiar, but couldn’t think of where he’d seen them before. The doors were just as durable as he thought. He tried to push them open, but failed to budge them.

These were plainly the tomb doors, but they were so sturdy and heavy that he couldn’t shift them, even with the dragons from the Dragonshift Method.

“No, this isn’t right. According to my calculations, this is the weakest link of the tomb. It’s the safest area, so why is there a pair of such heavy doors here?” Lu Yun murmured.

“That’s easy. It means these doors are the weakest thing in this tomb,” the Disordered Empyrean Supreme answered.

Lu Yun shuddered.

“Is there a way in?” she asked.

“Yes,” he replied confidently. “The light of great dao! The doors are so sturdy that only the light of great dao from the sacred palace can destroy them. But I don’t know what will happen after they’re gone.”

Frowning, the Disordered Empyrean Supreme wondered, “Is there anything like a formation or something similar that’s controlling the doors?”

“Formation? No,” Lu Yun responded reflexively, then blinked with a sudden hunch.

He dismissed the Spectral Eye and gave up all cultivator instincts, returning to his origins. He put himself back in the mindset of the invincible commandant of tomb raiders on Earth, studying the doors from the perspective of a mortal tomb raider.
