CHAPTER 88

Seconds later, Arctic finally spoke. He had calmed down and so had she.

"I am sorry for lashing out Jade. I never meant to go all out on you."

"I know. I am sorry too. It is just, I am not happy that they get to walk the face of the earth after all they have done while innocent souls are no more."

"I understand. It is all good."

"So when would you be coming back?" She was determined on bringing him back at all cost. Arctic smiled to himself.

Sometimes she just forgets that she is already an adult, a mafia Lord and still be acting all cute and innocent. It was cute though and it reminded him of Asia.

Asia only did that when she had made him angry and he refused to train her. In other to get his favour and back to his good mood, she would act all too cute and innocent while dashing her puppy dog eyes at him.

He felt his heart clench when he remembered his late daughter and for the first time in a long while, he felt pain envelop his whole being and the kind of anger that Jade had felt when she came face to face with Tony, enveloped him.

He hated the Anders for what was worth. They took his beloved daughter from him. Never would he forgive them.

"Arctic? Are you there?" Jade's question had broken him out of his pained thoughts.

"Yes, yes. I am okay. Do not mind me."

"Something is wrong, Arctic. I know. I can feel it in your voice." Arctic knew he tried his very best not to sound so down and give himself away but who was he kidding? She was perfectly trained by her father and himself.

There was no hiding it from her. Just the tiniest quake she heard from his voice, she could detect something was off.

"It is her right? You miss Asia?" Of course Jade would know as she had learnt this particular act from her best friend and bodyguard, Asia.

"I cannot hide anything from you, huh?"

"You can try but you and I know that you won't succeed much in it."

"I know. I know." He let out an exasperated sigh and drew his nose.

"You better not be crying, old man."

"I am not, young girl. I am not. Now, where were we?"

"When you were going to return to Star Cross City," she helped him remember.

"Ah! Yes. Okay, give or take within the month or towards the end of the month."

"What?"

"Relax Jade. It isn't that far."

"Don't tell me that. We are just beginning a new month and now you are saying month end."

"I said give or take, dear. It is not certain, Jade."

"No, I am not having that." Jade shook her head as though he could see her.

"Jade," Arctic tried to protest and have her listen to reason but she wasn't listening.

"As your boss, this is an official order. Return on the 12th to 14th of the month. No more, no less."

"Jade!"

"Arctic! Tell me why you are delaying so much, huh?"

"The truth is that I found out that there is someone who can decode all stuff. I want to see if I can track him down while still leading the Anders off track. So it is going to take more time that is why I said, probably month-end."

"You can do it all before fifteenth. Just return soon. I am not having a good feeling with you being away."

"Okay, I would try my best to finish quickly. Please be safe and stay put of trouble till I return. If you need anyone checking anything out, assign it to Jake. Let them handle things for you. During your father's time, he wasn't going for mission's like this personally when he was mafia lord."

"But I am not yet the mafia lord," Jade interjected.

"You are. Just not in name yet but you are, so start acting like one."

"Fine."

"Good. Take care."

"I will, you too."

The call ended and both parties felt satisfied with the turn of events. At least she managed to make him put his all and make things work so he could return to the city where she was sure he was safe.

"Sigh! It has been long since Macy and I had a girl's time out. These days, Jay seems to occupy her thoughts and time… Phew! My baby girl is already falling in love, isn't she?"

"And see who is talking?"

Bloody hell! Jade immediately jolted up from her bed when she heard that familiar voice.

Her heart had jumped to her throat because she was least expecting anyone to walk into her

room, let alone who it was now.

"Oh my gosh! Kindly do not do that again, Macy." Jade placed a hand on her chest, hoping it would steady her troubled heart beat but nothing.

"Why are you so startled. Speak of the devil and he would appear."

Jade eyed her friend and placed her two hands on her hips. "So you are now the devil, huh?"

"Arrghhh!" She made her hands into claws and tried to roar… letting out a pathetic sound.

"If you were trying to scare a newborn then maybe that would work, but for a child, he or she wouldn't freak out let alone for an adult such as myself that has experienced such horrors. Tsk, you need to learn, baby."

She stepped forward and went around her bed to where her friend stood by her door and flickered her forehead. "Don't be naughty and make my heart thud in my chest like that again, okay?"

"Hey, that hurts."

"And so did my fast beating heart dummy."

"Okay, I forgot. Only Xander can make your heart beat wildly huh?" She raised her brows severally at her friend, giving her the knowing eyes as a pleasant charming smile appeared on her face.

"You wish!"

"Still in denial?" Macy was not ready to let her escape easily.
