Chapter 83 - Killed

Kairen took a deep breath and closed his eyes. The last thing he saw before closing his eyes was the monster's antennas moving towards him.

"Kairen, dodge!"

"Oy! Shithead! Don't stop there like that!"

Kairen ignored the others calling out for him and raised his arm instead. He reached out his hand towards the monster. He was too close to the monster that his fingers could almost touch the monster, but Kairen didn't care. He just stood like that.

OOONNG

With a slight vibrate of the air, small dots appeared in the tip of his fingers. Five small golden dots slightly vibrated and moved in front of his reached-out hand.

Kairen's mana shook and stopped moving. However, it was fine now. He didn't need his mana anymore. The spell that he had been preparing was taking shape in front of the centipede's head already.

'Just in time.'

He had finished his spell just in time. If it had been a moment later, he would be smashed to death by the monster. But it was fine now. His spell was ready. That made Kairen feel better. Much calmer and less scared.

KIEEE

And just when the monster was about to smash him, Kairen released his spell.

ZEEEE

With a weird noise, the gold dots left Kairen's fingertips. The moment that they left his hands, they all exploded.

BAAANNNGGG

Five beams of light brightened the area.

They looked more like five golden lasers that cut the monster.

No.

They were five paper-thin golden rays that appeared in front of Kairen and increased in size. They expanded a few meters till they reached the tip of the monster's tail.

They were too bright. Too bright that it hurt people's eyes when tried to look at it. Too bright that the area around it seemed to go dark. As if the daylight had lost its brightness in front of the shiny rays of light.

The monster was directly hit by the five light beams.

The magic cut through its face, its skin, and reached its tail. The rays of light slashed its whole body.

The monster didn't even have the time to scream. The centipede that was about to smash the human being was unable to avoid the direct attack.

It cut the monster to pieces, burned it, and destroyed its body. The rays of light cut through the monster's whole body in a short amount of time.

It all happened in an instant.

It took only a few seconds for the magic to take shape and kill the monster.

The paper-thin golden rays shattered and disappeared as fast as they had appeared in the first place. It was only for a short amount of time, but it was enough for everyone to see it.

Everyone had seen the magic spell. The light attribute magic spell was too bright to look at, but no one could take their eyes off of it.

Because it was too beautiful. The spell was just too beautiful to ignore. The bright, beautiful, and powerful spell wasn't something that one could see often.

"It was almost like his magic..."

Darren muttered that under his lips while looking at the monster's last moments. He couldn't help but be reminded of his previous colleague. The powerful mage that was most probably enjoying his retirement days now. He also used to cast such beautiful spells.

SHHHHHH

But what came after that was even more mesmerizing.

Tap

Tap

Small pieces of the centipede's body fell to the ground one after another. The monster's ashes floated in the air, whirling around and falling down slowly.

Then, something strange happened.

SHHHH

The small parts of the monster that were scattered on the ground slowly started to turn to dust.

The dust floated and rose to the air, moving towards the sky.

The black dust was moving up, the opposite direction of the gray ashes. The earth and the sky were both covered in powders.

And there, in the mids of ashes falling and the dust rising, stood a young man with his eyes closed. He didn't move for a long time, just standing there with his eyes closed and his head lowered. He seemed too relaxed to move.

The young man lowered his hand after a while in a relaxed manner as if he didn't care about anything anymore.

Then that young man, Kairen, slowly opened one of his eyes and looked around.

'Oh, fuck! Did it die? Seriously?'

Kairen sighed with relief after seeing that the monster was nowhere to be found.

Kairen was scared as fuck back then, and even now. He was too scared to open his eyes or move back after casting his spell. He doubted that his spell wouldn't be able to kill the monster and the centipede would rush at him again, so he kept his eyes closed until he felt the pressure from the monster is completely gone.

Kairen opened his two eyes wide. The whole place was silent and everyone was looking at him in a daze. He avoided others' gazes and instead checked the area. The monster was really gone. He then looked up.

'Holy shit what is this.'

Some things were going up while some other things were falling down. A lot of those second types of somethings were falling down right on Kairen's face.

"A-Achoo!"

Kairen sneezed because of the dust that was tickling his nose and lowered his head. He could see the monster's body slowly turning to dust once he looked down.

'Oh, man. I killed that monster...'

He had killed the monster. He couldn't say he killed it alone because he would be dead before being able to do anything if it wasn't for others, but he had done most of the work.

He then thought of his spell. The light attribute spell that had slashed the monster.

'Boy, I wanted to see that spell as well but I was too afraid to open my eyes...'

Kairen couldn't think about the spell long as he suddenly felt tired.

'I want to sleep...'

He had just used up a huge amount of mana to kill a strong monster. In addition to that, he had been under so much pressure for quite a long time. Now that the monster was gone, he felt really tired.

Kairen took a step back and sat down on the ground. He didn't want to think about anything at the moment. He just wanted to go to the bed and sleep right now.

"Wow! It really died..."

Asa broke the silence by saying that. She, who had been staring at the scene of the monster's death with her mouth wide open, exclaimed loudly. She walked out of Rai's back and ran to stand under the falling dust.

"Beautiful!"

Asa spread her arms and looked at the sky as if she found the scene really beautiful.

As if he had just snapped out of it, Reyan got up and ran towards Kairen, and sat down beside him.

"Kairen, are you fine? Are you hurt?"

"No."

Kairen shook his head while rubbing his sleepy eyes. He wasn't injured at all, he was only tired. Rather, it should be Reyan who must have gotten hurt.

Reyan was the one who got hit by the monster and was sent back flying, but once Kairen looked at him, he found no injuries.

'Ah, these people are crazy.'

Kairen thought he would be in the heavens if he was hit like Reyan. This dude was safe and sound. Kairen was jealous.

"Thank you, Reyan."

"Hmm?"

"You saved me more than one time today."

Kairen was really grateful to him. He thought a simple 'Thank you.' wouldn't be enough to show how thankful he was, but there was nothing else he could do at the moment. Also, this wasn't the first time that he was receiving Reyan's help. Kairen felt in dept. He thought that he had to repay this debt, but he didn't know how to.

"Ah? Don't mention it. Everyone would do the same in such a situation."

Reyan waved his hand in the air as if to show that he hadn't done much.

"Gasp."

Asa suddenly gasped while looking at the two of them and turned around, but no one paid her any heed.

"Tch. Look at him. Everyone worked their ass off to save him and he is now only thanking that blondie!"

Kairen flinched at Darren's words and sat straight. He was planning on thanking everyone, it was just that Reyan was the closest to him at that moment.

"Ah. Um... Thank you all..."

"Yeah yeah."

Darren waved his hand with a disgruntled face and walked towards his daggers that were on the ground.

"I didn't know you were so strong, Kairen. That spell just now was really beautiful."

Rai used a breeze to collect the ashes and the dust in one place and then approached Kairen.

"Oh! I thought my daggers would be broken..."

Darren casually picked up his daggers from the ground. He also sat down in an empty area and examined his daggers.

"Everyone, you worked hard."

Team leader Dains checked the monster's remaining parts and ashes. After making sure that the monster was dead, he put his guns into his watch and looked around.

"Nothing remains from the ruin anymore..."

He mumbled that under his lips while looking at the place that used to be an ancient ruin. They were now far away from that place. They had moved around a lot during the fight and left behind that ruin. But it was still visible from where they were as the ground was sloping a little bit and the ruin was on the downhill side.

The whole structure had turned to dust. It had completely collapsed.

And it wasn't only the ruin. A huge part of the plain was destroyed. Trees were broken and the grass was burnt. The ground had shattered and the plants were trampled and crushed.

Everything was a mess.
