Chapter 64 - It Is Too Soon!

"Is this a new mission?"

Team leader Dains nodded his head. He moved closer to the table and put his finger on one of the red marks on the map.

"We will start from here, the closest location to the capital, and visit all three locations one by one. We'll make it as quietly as possible so make sure to keep your mouths shut."

Team members started to ask questions one by one. Team leader Dains answered everyone's questions and gave more explanations about the mission.

"Will everyone go?"

"Everyone except the archivist."

"Will it be okay for everyone to leave at once? The commander may need our help."

"I've talked to the higher-ups. There is no problem if we all leave as the other units are all ready and in full force."

"How long will completing the mission take?"

"I'm not sure about that."

"Will the newbies come as well?"

"Yes. They are also from the combat team so they have to come as well."

Kairen flinched and sat straight upon hearing that.

'We will go as well?'

Wasn't that too fast? It was just their first day here! He looked at Reyan and Serria with a surprised face only to see that they also had similar expressions.

Once everyone was done asking their questions, team leader Dains got up from his seat.

'They are going to investigate some ruins...so... it's probably safer than our last mission, right?'

Kairen looked up at the team leader again, but he didn't give any more explanations about the mission itself.

"We will depart tomorrow. There is nothing more to say now. I'll explain the details tomorrow before departing. Make sure to get ready and be here by 8 A.M."

"Yes, sir."

The team leader then turned back and walked to his office. He stopped in front of the door and turned back while grabbing the handle.

"Bray, I have things to discuss with you about the mission. Everyone else is free to leave."

He walked to his office after saying that, leaving the door open.

"Oh?"

Deputy team leader Bray, who was still sitting at the table and observing the map, got up from her chair and walked to the team leader's office.

As soon as the two of them were gone, the serious mood in the hall disappeared in an instant. Everyone got up from their seats and started chattering excitedly.

The most excited person among the group was clearly Asa.

"YAAAAYY! A mission! I don't have to study anymore! YAAAAAYY!"

She raised her clenched fists into the air and yelled loudly. It was obvious how much she hated studying.

'Anyway, why does this girl work here at such a young age?'

Kairen heard another voice while having such thoughts.

"Aaah, come on! A mission? Again?"

Unlike the others who were happily chattering and going around, that... Um... sleepy uncle was sprawled on his chair like jelly. He was looking at the ceiling whit solemn eyes while nagging under his lips.

He seemed too tired of working. Too tired and exhausted. Kairen suddenly felt like he could understand him. He too was tired, even though it was his first day at work.

'Man, I feel like I've met my future self...'

Pat

Kairen turned to his side upon sensing something pat his shoulder. Rai was standing on his side and putting his hand on Kairen's shoulder. He opened his mouth once their eyes met.

"I know it was too sudden for you guys to go on a mission this early, but it's the way that our unit works. Feel free to ask me any questions you have."

He smiled brightly while saying those to the three clueless newbies that had gathered around him at some point.

Reyan didn't hesitate to ask questions as soon as Rai was done talking.

"So, what are our roles here and what are we supposed to do? Shouldn't you test our abilities first before sending us on a mission?"

Rai laughed and waved his hands in the air.

"Haha don't worry don't worry. Team leader Dains must have observed you guys for a while before accepting you to his unit. Knowing his standards, everyone here is sure that you are talented enough. As for your duties... I don't know! It is still your first day here so take it easy. Just remember to bring your weapons and anything necessary with you and come on time."

Seeing that Kairen, Reyan, and Serria nodded their heads, Rai smiled at them again. It was a bright and beautiful smile.

Kairen could hear whispers from behind while still standing in front of the shiny creature.

"Rai is in charge of babysitting again?"

"He is the only one capable of dealing with such tasks."

"You are right. I guess he is the only one who can do such things so easily. Just imagine Darren being in Rai's place- Pfft."

The teenage girl couldn't continue her words and burst into laughter.

"Pfft- Ahem! You shouldn't talk behind others' back!"

"Come on sis! Just imagine. He would run away if he was told to look after someone else! Pfft haha!"

"Sigh!"

The two people talking were Asa and the support mage. Kairen frowned his brows as he listened to them.

'Babysitting? Who is a baby? OY, girl! I'm at least 8 years older than you!'

How could she talk as if she was older than them? Kairen shook his head internally and clicked his tongue.

'Ah! Darren! That's right, that sleepy uncle's name was Darren!'

"Ahem! Here."

Kairen snapped out of his thoughts and looked at the phone that was held in front of him.

"What?"

"Number exchange. We will work together for a while so it's better to have each other's numbers."

Rai looked at the three of them while saying that and asked them for numbers.

"...Right."

They just obediently nodded their heads and gave their numbers to the young man.
